Is there a way for a website to identify you besides cookies and your IP address? Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:15 PM PDT There's certain sites where I've cleared cookies, and used a VPN to change my IP but it still seems to recognize I've been there before. If it matters I also have my adblocker blocking all "social" things that could track me too. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Apr 2018 09:43 PM PDT Two seperate issues. I have a EVGA GTX 1080 FTW, I usually have zero issues with it. It runs smooth and I have had it for about 2 years now. However, the other day while playing Halo Wars 2 (I have played this before with zero issues) my graphics card let off a spark and my PC turned off. Since then, I have had no issues and contacted EVGA who said if it happens again to get a RMA. Second issue, is what feels like a static shock when I touch anything metal on my PC, most noticably my K65 Corsair Keyboard. I had experienced this before the spark (I think). Any advice? Earphones up volume up for no reason even when I do not touch it Posted: 02 Apr 2018 01:40 AM PDT The volume of my earphones turns up for no reason even when I do not touch it. I have an iPad Air 2 and I tried plugging the earphones into another air 2 and that one works fine (which might be because it is iOS 10but my one keeps upping the volume. How do you fix this. It isn't Apple branded I think which is what the problem may be. my iPad is in the latest update. [link] [comments] |
How do I configure an ubuntu machine as a router? Posted: 02 Apr 2018 12:40 AM PDT So I have an ubuntu virtual machine sitting between two cloned ubuntu virtual machines and they are connected to the central virtual machine. I wanna have IP connectivity between all the three machines. So my intention is to have my central ubuntu machine behave as a router. My current situation is that I can ping both of my cloned machines from the central machine however I can't reach (ping) a cloned machine from the other cloned machine. I've set the default gateway correctly on both the cloned machines such that it points to the central machine. I have run traceroute from both the machines, I get nothing. I have made sure all the machines' interfaces are configured correctly (as a result the cloned machines can ping the central machine). I followed some of these instructions except for the iptables part. Now I don't have iptables installed or running on my machines so I don't think I need to have the iptables masquerading thing, or do I? Any suggestions on what I should to to achieve connectivity? Also, I just remembered while writing this that I should post this on stackoverflow as well. I'll do that. [link] [comments] |
Can't access Outlook email. Not sure what this error means. Posted: 01 Apr 2018 09:48 PM PDT https://i.redd.it/hfwbz65vbfp01.jpg I keep getting that error message. I've tried signing in and out, I've tried clearing cache, history, cookies. I tried signing in through mail.office365.com instead out outlook.com. I've tried this on my phone (Android Oreo 8.1 Google Chrome). I also tried it on my laptop (Ubuntu 17.10 Chromium) and I tried in a windows 7 VM on Internet Explorer. I had access through the Outlook app on my phone but I signed out and tried to sign back in and no go. No error message just stays loading "Authenticating with Outlook" then leaves me on the password entry page. If I put in a wrong password however it does give me the "incorrect password" message. So I have no access to my Outlook email now. It's my personal email, not my work email though I've accessed it at work I don't know if that could cause this issue. I'll try to login at work in the morning and see what happens. My work uses Google mail though so I don't know. I still have access to OneDrive... Edit: I've also tried creating an alias email, making it primary and signing but didn't work. I made my original email the primary again and still not working. Edit2:

Extreme memory usage without apparent cause. Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:35 AM PDT My PC regularly uses up to 80% of its memory, without any processes running. I have 16GB of RAM and not too much is used in Paged and Non-Paged pools, but its used by processes as indicated by RAMmap. Thing is, the task manager cant identify which processses are using the excessive amounts of RAM,and RAMmap doesnt show any processes using any big amounts of it either. What it does show me is that there are 2 processes that have MANY(like thousands) of instances running, each consuming about 44KB(20 KB private,24 paged table). These processes are called fgmap4.exe and x.exe. I have tried to find them but the windows search function cant locate them on any of my drives. Any help? I am running W10 btw. EDIT:After restarting my computer,if I run RAMmap right away it shows me no instances of x.exe or fgmap4.exe. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:30 AM PDT Imagine a modem/router combo with ,obviously, a router and a switch connected directly to the same modem via cable. Now in a situation which there are 4 computers, 2 of them are connected to the internet through router(Wi-Fi) and other 2 computers also connected to internet through the switch connected to modem. 2 computers that are connected to switch have cable connection with the switch. So in this situation do 4 of these PCs get the same external IP address when browsing the internet or do the router and the switch distribute different external IP addresses? [link] [comments] |
I can't sign into my email for some strange reason Posted: 01 Apr 2018 09:28 PM PDT Every time I go onto Outlook I get this strange error message that says "You're currently signed in as |my email|. Please sign out, then sign in to Outlook with the account you use to read your organization's email. Click here to sign out. After I sign out and then sign back in I get the same message. I've also tried signing into different browsers and devices but it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
My Monitor just died. Looking for an alternative other than buying a whole new monitor. Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:07 AM PDT So my monitor for my cpu which I've had for over 10 years (its actually older than the desktop I use) finally died, so I'm looking for an alternate preferably cheap way to still be able to use my cpu without buying a whole new monitor. So I was online looking at HDMI to vga adapters since I have a TV and a laptop I can use as a monitor. I was ready to buy one but thought I'd do one last check so I hopped on Youtube and ran into this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfQ_lhBCGL8 & read the comments which says that an HDMI to vga adapter WONT actually work. So now I dont know what to do. I'm not very tech savy so can someone explain to me what I would need to buy to get the HDMI adapter to actually work? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Apr 2018 03:02 AM PDT Hello, I am currently at my workplace and the pc i was working on suddenly froze and i did a hard reset. After that it booted automatically in bios, i saved and exit, again the same. Reset to default, cleared Cmos, changed the battery, unplugged/replugged ram, ssd, keyboard, dvd drive.. Nothing. I managed to update the bios to latest version, still nothing. After clearing cmos it stops at the American trends screen and says press F1 to configure bios, there's not other option. Lastly in bios the ssd is readable as Satafirm s11. Plugged it in another pc to check, went to disk management, and when it asked to configure it to something in order to be able to read it, i tried both options and it failed. Sorry i don't remember what it said. Computer is around 6 months old. I suspect the ssd is dead [link] [comments] |
PC powers up with display but then display turns off Posted: 02 Apr 2018 02:58 AM PDT Hello, Not too long ago I was cleaning my PC out with a compressed air can. I think I got a bit of liquid into the PSU. After putting PC back together and booting it back up I started hearing one of the fans making an unusual sound like chugging instead of running smoothly. I couldn't tell if it was the PSU fan or not as sometimes the fans all seemed to run smoothly. The PC ran seemingly fine for a while after this. Currently as stated in the title, PC powers up, video will output for a few seconds and then the video output will go black. This happens when accessing the bios as well. I tested the display on multiple screens such as my tv and main monitor. Tested graphics card display ports and as well as the onboard video output port. I have also re seated the ram. I am starting to think that it is just the PSU but I have no way of testing it and need my PC for work. Should I just buy a new PSU and go from there? Any help would be greatly appreciated Jin Note: current PSU is a Corsair CX600m [link] [comments] |
My font/graphics got changed after launching a program Posted: 02 Apr 2018 02:57 AM PDT Yesterday i installed an old game called Morrowind, and when i launched it, it set itself to a really low resolution and also changed the general font of my computer and the anti-aliasing also seems to have been changed since everything appears a bit more jagged. I checked the fonts, but its Segoe UI, just as it was before. I also tried ClearType but that didnt work either. I even tried restoring my PC to a point where Morrowind wasn't installed, but that didn't work either. Obviously something is wrong with the display settings, but i can't find out what. Any help would be highly appreciated :) Edit: I'am running Windows 7 Professional x64bit [link] [comments] |
How to delete files, so that they can't be recovered ever? Posted: 01 Apr 2018 07:55 AM PDT I've heard of file shredders etc. Let me know if you can recommend good ones or something else just so it gets the job done. Remember, if it's software it's not supposed to be able to be installed on the pc [link] [comments] |
New SSD speed not what it should be Posted: 01 Apr 2018 10:55 PM PDT Edit: Okay, it turns out two of my SATA III ports are controlled by AsMedia and the other two are intel. I moved the SSD over to the intel port, and now I'm getting 550 read and 530 write. I recently bought a WD Blue 1TB 3D NAND 2.5" SSD. After installing everything on it, I decided to run CrystalDiskMark just to test it out. Come to find out, I'm only getting about 350 MB/s read and 380 MB/s write (sequential). I've seen other reviews and screenshots with people getting closer to the advertised speeds (around 500 MB/s). I'm wondering if something is wrong with mine. At first I thought it was running at SATA II speed (the read and write speeds are around 3.0 Gb/s). I updated my SATA and chipset drivers and made sure the drive was plugged into the right ports, but I'm still getting the same speed. Then I downloaded the WD SSD utility and it says my link speed is indeed 6.0 Gb/s. It also says that everything is healthy and firmware is up to date. I'm not sure where to go from here. Everything seems okay, but for some reason I'm not getting the speeds I should be. Any help would be appreciated. My specs are: OS: Windows 10 Pro Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 SSD: WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB [link] [comments] |

Can't login after factory reset Posted: 02 Apr 2018 02:21 AM PDT So late last year during Year 11 i cracked my laptop screen, i really need it for year 12 this year and i wanted to clean the laptop up before getting the screen replaced. However, after a factory reset, i can't login. It takes me into the login screen, i can choose administrator or guest. No matter what i pick it gets stuck on "Welcome" for about 3 minutes before giving me the message "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." Really stuck, spent a good 30 minutes googling it but couldn't find anything. Edit: forgot to mention something that might be important, when restarting the laptop an error pops up before the login screen. The error is a little window that says "winlogin.exe application error" "instruction at 0X00007FFF38D4B4C0 referenced memory at 0X00007FFF38D4B4C0. The memory could not be written." Click on OK to terminate the program [link] [comments] |

Multiple BSODs Thinking it's a rootkit (Very Long Post) Posted: 02 Apr 2018 01:57 AM PDT Yesterday i woke up to my headphones making a microsoft notification sound, i read " your microsoft password may have been changed" this was already alarming for me so i immediately opened my antivirus (i use malwarebytes/avira) and tried to do a scan. Both of them failed for unkown reasons and i got my first BSOD, this one said the culprit was dzgmms2.sys which i didn't recognize and neither did any of my friends. I boot back into my computer and log in, again not long after i get another BSOD with neither avira nor malwarebytes working. This one i can't remember microsoft error code but i did search it and found hard drive and memory errors but me being paranoid assume it's malicious so i turn it off and sit back for a second and search for a fix but i find nothing and i decide i need to reset my computer and erase everything. I boot my computer back up and rush through the steps, i wait for a few butt-clenching moments as it gets ready to reset and it does but as I'm 1% through the resetting process it BSODs again with the culprit this time being something called CL.dll so i turn it off when it gets to the log in screen and i leave it off, a recount the story to a couple semi-experienced friends and one says it sounds like a rootkit. Last night i thought about the problem thoroughly and rationalized replacing my hdd but I'm still paranoid about my memory and my motherboard, without a clearcut confirmation that i actually have a rootkit i have no idea what is safe and what isn't. The plan is to talk to a professional or get help here and if all else fails I'm probably gonna take a hammer to my computer. I'm sorry that this post is so dramatic I've had a whirlwind of a few days and I'm not in my right mind. Edit: I forgot to mention that I've been monitoring my email and i haven't seen any fishy at all. [link] [comments] |

Not being able to extend my screen (PC) - Windows 7. Using a VGA splitter. Posted: 02 Apr 2018 01:28 AM PDT Hi guys, For work, we require to have two monitors attached to a single system so as to efficiently function. We purchased VGA splitters so that this can be done but all it's allowing us to do is Duplicate the screen. Windows isn't detecting another screen and using the Win + P also doesn't help, even when selecting "Extend Screen". This is a bit urgent and a rather important requirement. Any and all help is appreciated. Images - https://imgur.com/a/r0zcB Thanks [link] [comments] |
