Posted: 25 Apr 2018 05:21 PM PDT I thinking about managing the hosts file myself (adblocking) via adb on my Linux computer and also only give root access for my own apps (that I made the code from scratch). Is it still "unsafe"? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2018 04:25 PM PDT I've been getting a shit ton of spam phone calls. I'll ask that they not call, I've blocked, but no luck. I get about 4 phone calls or more a day. Ranging from bots to indians. Is there an app to help block spam calls anyone can suggest. I'm getting really annoyed. :/ [link] [comments]
Broken screen, can't wipe, want to wipe so I can sell Posted: 25 Apr 2018 10:19 PM PDT Galaxy S6, won't come up via USB on computer, I want to format it to sell. Is there someone I can send it to that will format the phone so I can sell it? Seems like a valuable resource [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2018 04:03 PM PDT I've read that the pixel 2 support Android pay and has NFC. So does anyone here with the pixel 2 know if Android Beam works on it because I've tried looking it up and there's been a lot of mixed comments. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2018 02:14 PM PDT I know this is possible with Titanium Backup, but it requires root. I'm looking for a non-root way. Is it even possible? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2018 08:08 AM PDT I'm asking this because it can take some time to calculate the app data and cache sizes before being able to click that clear app data button (that is grayed out). I use Nova Launcher and I tend to uninstall it directly via home screen, so I'm wondering if doing that action removes all leftover crap or if I have to do it by myself. It can be done via file explorers as well, but most of them don't offer direct app data cleaning before uninstalling, so what do you say? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2018 07:51 PM PDT For a reason unknown to me, my settings keep reverting after a short amount of time (fee hours to maybe one day) For example, inactive screen lock I keep setting to one minute, but is constantly reverting to 15 seconds. This is also affecting my permissions monitor which is the most annoying. I have a non standard SMS client (Pulse SMS) which I have repeatedly disabled monitoring for (I don't need an alert 2x a day that my SMS client is sending SMS FFS) but it keeps switchibg back. Android 8, Samsung S8+ if that helps. Newer to Android so I don't quite know where to begin [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2018 03:42 PM PDT Whenever I search something up on chrome I notice that my URL has co.uk in it but I live in the US. Whenever I go to Amazon the products' prices are listed in pounds instead of dollars. I also can't access my student portal because of this. Can anyone help me fix this? [link] [comments]
Best CPU governor for NVIDIA Tegra 3 T30L? Posted: 25 Apr 2018 06:28 PM PDT My old Nexus 7 (first gen) has an ancient Tegra 3, and I was wondering which governor I could try to speed it up a bit. Currently runs AOSP 7.1.2. I know it will never be /fast/, but I just want to squeeze as much performance out of this old timer as possible. (No, it isn't my primary device. I would be dead.) Here are the available governors: intelliactive interactive conservative ondemand powersave userspace performance <-- currently selected I also locked all four cores at the maximum frequency of 1300MHz. Anything I should change? [link] [comments]

Retrieving pictures from SD Card Posted: 25 Apr 2018 08:54 AM PDT I have a question about retrieving content from my SD Card. Specifically: I had previously used a Samsung s7, and was very good about saving all my pictures, and documents to my 124GB SD Card. I did this because the 32GB storage of the device was too small, and also so that it would be easier to transfer my information on the day I get a new phone. Well, that day was yesterday. I got a Galaxy s9 Plus. I did the Smart Switch and got all my contacts and everything sent over. But the pictures that are on the SD card aren't showing up. The albums are all labeled correctly, the number of items per folder seem to be correct. But when I go into each folder, rather than seeing the thumbnails of each photo, I see a big grey box with a white X in the middle. To make matters worse, I upload all my photos to Amazon Photos, and now all the pictures I have on there also seem to be 'error thumbnails' rather than the actual picture. I'm worried that when I put the sd card into the new phone, and it tried to back up the photos/videos, it replaced them all with corrupt versions. Or, is it possible that there's something wrong with my new phone where it's not allowing me to view those photos? There are some pictures that I can see (I would say, maybe 1 out of every 300 or so, I can see). I just ordered a new SD card, out of fear that this one might be broken (it's 2 years old). Is there a quick way to pause music while outside of the app? Posted: 25 Apr 2018 05:17 PM PDT Today I made the jump from iPhone to my first Android, the Galaxy s8. Something I've noticed is that if I start to play music in the " Play Music app, then go to Internet for example, I can't find a quick way to pause or skip the music I'm listening to without either 1. Going back to the Play Music app or pressing the sleep button. Is there a faster way I can pause/skip while remaining in a different app? Sorry if this is a noon question. [link] [comments]
Google play services no longer supported on my device? Posted: 25 Apr 2018 01:15 PM PDT I have a rooted moto x pure. Play store and most google apps just disappeared. Maps won't let me log in - it says account already exists on device, but doesn't sow me logged in. There is still play movies. When I click on it it says google play services not supported on this device. How to troubleshoot? [link] [comments]

Pixel 2 Stolen, is there a way to see it's last location? Posted: 25 Apr 2018 12:36 PM PDT My Pixel 2 was stolen recently in Costa Rica. Because I had 2-step verification on my account I wasn't able to access find my phone directly (a good reminder to write down some backup codes when going away, I probably wouldn't be asking this question if I had) but my friend in the US was able to access find my phone from my home computer. He was able to see where the phone was but at that moment, late at night, I couldn't retrieve it from the house it was in. I told my friend to erase the phone but right before he did the phone started moving again. Instead of waiting to see where it ended up he erased it. Long story short I'm looking for a way to see it's last known location via find my phone. Nothing is coming up even though my friend was using find my phone right before he erased it. Any ideas how to see it's last moments before it was erased? Thanks all! [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Apr 2018 06:13 AM PDT Hi everyone, all of a sudden my Note 8's device maintenance widget icon has gotten bigger. The weirdest part is that it clears alot of memory despite my phone being inactive for the past few minutes. It sometimes says something along the lines of ' security policy restricts clearing of this app's cache' as well. Is this because of some virus? Im completely new to android so i do not know if this is something common but when i used to use the widget it was nothing like this. Thanks for your help in advance :) [link] [comments]

Looking to buy a tablet - is it worth paying more for a newer Android version for basic usage? Posted: 25 Apr 2018 03:21 PM PDT I'm looking through cheap tablets right now (like 80 to 130€ or thereabout) and while i can compare hardware and such, i got no real idea about the differences between Android 5, 6 or 7 (my last tablet ran on 4.0) - would i miss out on anything important if i pick 5 for money's sake or is there anything in 6 or 7 that's worth paying a bit more for? Or differences in memory/battery usage, etc? [link] [comments]
Swiftly getting files off a possibly fubared Nexus 5X Posted: 25 Apr 2018 03:10 PM PDT Long story short. I'm running CopperheadOS. Yesterday my Nexus 5X died while using it. When I tried booting it again I got the
message and a red warning triangle. After that I saw the Google logo (not the good old flickering CopperheadOS logo) for about 5 minutes. Then the phone went black and did not respond to any keypresses (volume down+power did not work either). The led light did not show any color. The device was connected to the AC outlet the whole time. I have a bunch of (yay, not backed up) files that I want to get off the phone. Today I tried pushing the power button (fast). The LED suddenly blinked red (the battery depleted way). I connected the power cable to the wall outlet. It showed the battery charging animation. That's better than anything that did or did not happen yesterday. My hopes are not high, but I still want to have my priorities really straight if the thing actually responds to long pressing the power button. I want to have the best chance at recovering the files I want to get off the device. Should I boot the device the regular way with a USB cable connected to my computer in order to get my files off the device as fast as possible? Or, is ADB or any other method a better way forward? The bootloader is locked (as it enables full verified boot on CopperheadOS), if that makes any difference. [link] [comments]
Will this Google Pixel 2 work with T-Mobile? Posted: 25 Apr 2018 11:14 AM PDT Interested in upgrading to a Pixel 2 and found this listing in ebay ( https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F332629882209). I checked the imei provided in the listing and it is clean. I'm just not sure if it's the unlocked version. I believe google made an unlocked and verizon model. How do I know if it's a verizon model or not? And if it is, can I still use it with Tmobile? Thanks. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area. Imei: 357536080687942 [link] [comments] |
