This website will attempt to use ~30% of your idle CPU resource as a monitization method. If you do not agree with this, please do not use this website.

What does it mean? How could they possibly profit from using my idle CPU resources? Is this dangerous?

Windows 10 bluescreening, Youtube and Twitch.tv crashing. Issues started the other week when I started streaming using OBS, and have been getting worse over the past week or so.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 12:13 AM PDT

I built my computer this past summer, and would occasionally encounter a bluescreen (maybe once a month). Recently however, ever since I've started streaming on Twitch, I have been encountering them constantly. Maybe 2-3 times a day. Most frequently it is the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error message, but just today while booting up my computer I got an error message that said Kernal Security Check Failure.

I mostly only bluescreen while gaming/streaming, but websites like Youtube and Twitch are constantly crashing. I thought it might be a driver issue, so I tried reinstalling my graphic card's drivers. That hasn't seemed to help. Not sure what my next step should be.

Thank you in advance, and let me know if you need any additional information!

Here is my build, less than a year old: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/kojax08/saved/#view=rQG9WZ

How do I get the New Tab button back to the right?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2018 11:38 PM PDT

In the new Chrome UI (you can access it by going to chrome://flags, searching "UI Layout for the browser's top chrome", and selecting "Refresh"), they changed new tab button from being on the right (right next to the tab) to being on the very left. Here is a screenshot.

Previous SysAdmin Quit, Locked Down Windows SBS08 Domain Controller

    Posted: 25 Apr 2018 04:26 PM PDT

The sysadmin of my small office had an ugly meltdown after mounting erratic behavior yesterday and quit. Before he left, unbeknownst to the remaining IT staff, he locked out every account from administration besides his and we suspect he has a backdoor into the server. As such, our elevated access to the domain controller and any administrative tools therein are gone, local login to the server itself has been deactivated as well.

What methods can we use to regain access to the domain controller, and how can we prevent this from happening again in the future?

Ryzen 2700X Hard Freeze Under Heavy CPU Load (And Sometimes Even When Idle)

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:52 AM PDT

    Computer Type: Desktop, custom build

    GPU: Asus R9 290X 4gb, no oc

    CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X

    Motherboard: Asus PRIME X470-PRO

    RAM: F4-3200C14D-16GTZR 16Gb(2x8) b2,a2. 3200Mhz, 14,14,14,34

    PSU: Corsair 750W RM750x (CP-9020179-EU)

Operating System & Version: Windows 10

GPU Drivers: Crimson Edition 16.11.5, newer drivers cause constant stuttering with the 290x on this system as well as my old pc. I don't think the problems are related to this, explained below.

Chipset Drivers: AMD X470, newest available.

    Background Applications: -

Description of Original Problem: Under heavy cpu load (gaming or benchmarking) the computer freezes completely, caps lock doesn't activate keyboard light, power button doesn't work. This is most easily reproduce-able by running cinebench or 3dmark firestrike physics test. Event viewer gives error 41 (63) with no details. Errors 158, 153, 129 usually also happens before the crash, most of the time just one or two at a time. Sometimes this also occurs randomly when not under load, explained below, hence the title. Problems started yesterday, around 4 days after building, it had worked perfectly until then, no oc on cpu.

    Troubleshooting:

    • Running the memory at 2133MHz
    • Using only one stick of ram, tried both. Also tried different slots.
    • Tried with another psu
    • Tried with no other drives or usb devices connected
    • Tried with a fresh install of windows on another hdd, Tried with another ssd, crashed while i was setting up the mb drivers. This is why i don't think it's a problem with gpu drivers, it's crashing even with no drivers intalled and not under load.
    • Disabled C-states, Precision boost overdrive and all oc setting are on auto
    • The only way i can get it stable is by capping the cpu with ryzen master at 3,85Ghz at 1,3375V. Going lower is also stable, that's the highest i could get it to run reliably. For some reason the automatic boosting by the cpu is not stable.
    • Using the latest BIOS (flashed it when i built the pc)
    • Tried setting ProcODT to 60 ohms
    • May have forgotten something, I can tell you if you ask me if i've done it.

    Any help is appreciated!

Internet browser gets slow over time. Rebooting the desktop only temporarily fixes it.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:50 AM PDT

    Symptoms :

    1) After 3~4 hours of uptime, internet gets extremely slow. Only one PC is affected. All the other devices / PCs are fine. I have to restart the PC to fix it, but it gets slow again within hours.

    2) When PC starts, taskbar network icon has yellow error mark. Running troubleshooter gets me "Default gateway is not available" message, and it starts working.

    3) When internet does get slow, I would often get stuck for at "resolving host (chrome)" or "performing tls handshake (firefox)" for a minute or two. Certain websites would get stuck loading forever.

    4) Other application using network such as online games seem to be unaffected. Speedtest result is also unaffected, only the browser speed is.

Computer shuts off several times upon startup

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:46 AM PDT

I recently moved house. Ever since then, I've had sporadic problems of my PC shutting off between 1 and 3 times during startup.

When it has these booting problems, I get a "Gigabyte" image on my screen during the booting process. When everything goes fine, I don't get this image, I only get a "Chillblast" image. Chillblast is the company who I bought the computer from and Gigabyte is the "system manufacturer" according to the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

What's the problem? Did something get shaken loose during the move? I can see two fans and they both look slightly wobbly but maybe that's normal, especially as they both appear the same. The back of the computer is slightly warm but the rest is cool. The computer is maybe four or five years old.

    Ricoh C6003 - Scan-to-Email & ping not working

    Posted: 25 Apr 2018 11:54 PM PDT

I've got a Ricoh C6003 printer connected to a switch along with several other PC's. All the PC's are able to detect, print and ping to the printer but for some reason, the printer isn't able to ping to any of the PC's, only to the router. Along with this, the scan-to-Email feature has also stopped working and I can't figure out why. I've looked over all the settings and it all seems correct to me. If anyone could suggest any solutions, I'd be very grateful. Any help is much appreciated!

    Videos on Reddit won't play

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:32 AM PDT

    ISSUE:

Reddit videos won't play. The player seems to load just fine, but the video won't show up at all. The timestamp thingy says "0:00" on both sides and I'm not getting any indication that the video is loading, and scrubbing through the video using the slider on the bottom of the video player does nothing. I've also attempted a workaround using the Firefox addon "Download Flash and Video" and it doesn't detect a video present on the page. Flash content and YouTube videos work just fine. Example of video that won't play: https://www.reddit.com/r/Target/comments/8dyamq/a_tag_from_2007/

    HARDWARE:

    I have an AMD FX 6300 and a Radeon R9 270

    SOFTWARE:

Opensuse Leap latest version, Mozilla Firefox, and the only addon I have is Download Flash and Video

Thanks for any help this post receives :)

    What is this computer program?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2018 06:44 PM PDT

Here are two photos of what I'm talking about. They are pretty grainy, but I believe this shows rows of numbers, mainly "88" with other pairs thrown in at times like "74 43 75" etc. It looks to be running on an early '00s Dell laptop, not sure exactly what model.

It looks like two main columns of 8 sets each, two digits per set. On the right appears to be input fields of some sort, or an organizing tray, or something like that maybe. I'm not sure what the column of rows on the left are. Also, I assume this is all running in DOS.

I know nothing about this other than the person using it was talking about headers, file types ("life-something type, 5 types of files"). I would love to know more about what this is!

What would be the best OS to install on my old pc that failed?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 03:04 AM PDT

As title says, I have a Lenovo g580 (20157) laptop that is 5 or 6 years old... I updated it to windows 10, it worked fine for 6 or so months. Then I turn it on the other day and it failed to boot windows and I get blue screened. It's honestly had issues since win 8.1 came out, and I've had to factory reset it multiple times and I'm pretty fed up with windows at this point. It's probably Lenovo's fault, but I still have faith I can get the thing running better with a slimmer OS.

Some of the hardware specs are an i5 32105 @ 2.50GHz, 4gb ram, Intel HD 4000. It's obviously no race car, but I just need it for basic homework tasks and streaming some videos, etc.

What are the best options? I'm very green to anything other than windows, but I've done research into chromium builds and Linux. The neverware cloudready OS sounds like what I want but I'd like to get some input before I pull the trigger and install it.

Thanks for your help, kind redditors.

Hooked up my monitor to my ps4 and it doesn’t want to work.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:52 AM PDT

Hey guys, I got a problem that me and my friend have ben trying to fix for the last few hours and googling and youtube-ing didn't help.

I gave my friend my old monitor since i upgraded and he wanted to hook it up to his ps4 to enjoy playing fortnite a bit more (previously he played on his tv and the lang input was pretty bad, and the quality of the picture was not great at all), the monitor has dvi and vga outputs, and since i had a vga cable laying around i figured he could just get the adapter hdmi->vga and save some money by not buying a whole new dvi cable (boy was i wrong, the adapter costed $10 more than the dvi cable). Anyway turns out its not that simple, you gotta get all these other things to actually be able to run it. So we decided to return the adapter and just get a dvi-hdmi cable. Come home, plug it in thinking its gonna work properly, boom the screen pops up with "cannot display this video mode, optimum resolution 1680x1050 60hz" now we tried turning off HDCP, tried going to safe mode and changing resolution but as soon as we select change resolution the screen shows "cannot display this video mode optimum resolution 1680x1050 60hz ".

Really hoping that someone here could help. Thanks guys !

My cat peed on my desk overnight. Phone dead, laptop acting up.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:41 AM PDT

I love my cat and i am more sad than angry; the litterbox had a shit on it that i hadn't cleaned up yet and he doesn't like it. Fair enough. But last time he protested for that he pissed on my face, not on my electronics.

Anyway, back on topic. I was sleepy and pissed and wasn't thinking straight so i tried to turn it on. Big mistake. Once half a neuron kicked in i hurried to disassemble it (done before, SIM holder repair), dried it up as best as i could and left it "soaking" in rice. But i suspect that the damage is too much of a challenge for the rice - fingers crossed though - so my next course of action would be to carefully clean the board with isopropyl alcohol and a lint free piece of cloth.

A new battery is in order as well.

This is pretty much a rant at this point, but if someone has any advice - or anecdote... i'd prefer to laugh at this all - it is certainly welcome.

As per the laptop, things are looking much better now so i think it will do OK. Or so i hope.

EDIT: Forgot to mention it's a Galaxy S4. My brain is also fried.

Need help finding a LED Panel

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:30 AM PDT

My parrot fucked up my Samsung UE55K6300 and bit up the top parts of the screen. The Screen is cracked where it's been bitten and now about 1/5 of the screen from there is distorted in colour and fudged.

I'm not sure what to do about this. I'm not in a place where I can claim the 2 year warranty on it (cannot take it back there either) so is there any other way to repair it or will I have to replace the panel.

Also if anyone could help me find the required panel I would be very grateful. Preferably in the UK. If from anywhere else I would still love to see.

    Many thanks in advance

    Crackling noise in Headphones

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:17 AM PDT

Hello all! I am having some problems with crackling noises in my Steelseries Arctis 5 Headphones. I'll try to describe it as best as I possibly can. It all started with some crackling noises when I play sound (especially multiple instances) and I did a whole lot of stuff in order to fix it (switched ports for example) and it worked. But then the problem kept reoccuring some days after I have managed to fix it. Now when I play a song for example, it crackles. When I click with the mouse on the screen while listening to a song, it crackles even more. This is annoying me to bits haha, anybody who can help me in this matter? Would be greatly appreciated!

It was lying sideways on a surface for around 6 hours before i picked it up and plugged it in again. now however whenever i try to turn on my pc, everything starts normally for about 2 seconds, lights go on, fans start running, but then after that brief period everything goes off, after about 5 seconds it repeats this process over and over until i turn the source power off, please help me. if anyone needs any other info or images ask in comments and i will try to work with you as soon as possible. I'm so sad because i really don't want to have to replace anything as im only 17 and on a low budget

USB ports stop working when PC is turned off completely?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 02:06 AM PDT

    Hey all,

If I shut down my PC and turn off the plugs that feed power to the PC then when I boot my PC next, the USB ports will not work until I remove and re-insert all USB devices. Every time I leave the house for any length of time I unplug everything from the wall outlets and every time I boot my PC upon returning I have to physically remove my USB keyboard and mouse, then re-insert them into the same USB port in which then they turn on immediately and function perfectly fine. I'm no novice to computing, having built my last three PC builds myself, but this baffles me completely.

    Things to note:

    • It typically only happens when I turn off the plugs, if I shut down and don't remove the supply of power from the plug socket then the USB ports still work upon boot.

    • Occasionally my mouse won't turn on even after a standard reboot, but I think that's coincidental and a fault of the mouse. Again, unplugging and re-plugging the device fixes the issue.

    • I've had multiple keyboards and mice (mouses?) and all of them have exhibited the same behaviour.

Windows 10 system will randomly use 50% ram and 50% swap after being on for ~15-24 hours

    Posted: 25 Apr 2018 10:13 PM PDT

I have a system running windows 10 that will constantly utilize 50% (16gb of 32gb total memory) after being turned on for more then a day. Whenever I notice this issue happening, my computer is basically idling. Only a few processes such as Steam, malwarebytes and a few others are open. Restarting the computer is the only solution, however it persistently happens every day. I will include a link to my sorted process list as well.

    https://i.imgur.com/dQ23WAo.png

    • i7 7700k @ 5Ghz
    • 32Gb DDR4 ram @ 3000Mhz
    • ASUS gtx 1080
    • gtx 1070 mini (no SLI)
    • 1 boot SSD
    • a few hard drives

It's minor, but when this specific issue is happening the whole computer feels bogged down. Simple things such as opening a batch file to ping 1.1.1.1 are all delayed/stutter when they startup, loading any Microsoft file, video or application will experience startup stuttering as well. I have tested everything with a synthetic load and no issue has appeared

Also, I cant find anything relevant in event viewer. Any help is appreciated

    Win10 -unable to log in

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 01:55 AM PDT

I have a dell inspiron desktop, and I think I messed up the operating system a bit using malware removers.

I ran ADWcleaner, it restarted my computer, and now I cannot log in.

At the log in screen I enter my password, and no matter if I press enter or click login, nothing happens. (Sometimes if I press space it restarts.)

I'm a bit worried about what I messed up. Especially that I cannot get to safe mode (since the computer loads so fast).

The computer is about a week old, and I have not yet prepared an USB stick for recovery, and Dell did not send any DVDs, USB drives with the win10 (yeah, win10- what do I do if I need to reinstall?)

Any advice would be much appreciated.

LG Monitor turns on, then instantly turns off after screen displays for 1 second.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2018 01:50 AM PDT

So just a brief summary, I recently updated to NVIDIA's latest driver (something to do with Skyrim VR), and now on my 2nd LG monitor, I have a strange bug.

If a window isn't 'active' on the screen, it will turn on, then instantly turn off after the screen flashes for 1 second. Turn off as in, the whole monitor turns off.

However, if I open something like say, my browser, drag it across to the 2nd monitor and power it on, it stays on perfectly until I drag the window back to my 1st monitor.

I've never had an issue happen like this before and it's truly bizarre. I initially thought it was something wrong with the monitor but now it makes me think it's a NVIDIA/OS problem due to the window example I gave above.

    Any help is appreciated!
