Boot screen shows "Getting Windows Ready..." everytime I start up.

I just solved my update failure issue a few weeks ago, and this started happening. Instead of the regular "please wait" I was greeted with the text Windows usually shows during an update. But I was up to date, so it didn't make sense. The computer started normally, but it doesn't explain why that screen was shown and not the regular one. Was it because of the "failed" update?

Is there a way to use 2 audio outputs at the same time for different apps?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 01:14 PM PDT

I have 2 pair of speakers (pair A and pair B) and I'm interested to use them at the same time but separately.

For example, I want Chrome to play on speaker A, but other apps to play on speaker B.

    Is this possible?

Slow internet speeds/pages not loading windows 10. Please help.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 05:17 AM PDT

So I just bought a new laptop with windows 10 and no matter what I've tried I can't get web pages to load. Basically google will load then nothing else after will. My connection to the internet is fine and I've tried resetting the router, a network reset, cleared DNS, turned off the firewall, reinstalled the network adapter, tried resetting stuff through the command prompt and I don't know what it is. My other devices work perfectly fine including my roommates computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my wits end. Thanks.

How many OneDrive accounts can you run on one PC?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 12:43 PM PDT

At the moment, I have Office 365 Home and am running two OneDrive accounts on my laptop - a personal account (displayed by a little white cloud) and a school/work account (displayed by a little blue cloud). Since you can apparently sign up for 5GB of OneDrive storage by creating a new Microsoft account, no affiliated Office license or subscription needed, I'm wondering why more people don't use more than 1-2 OneDrive accounts. Is it because Microsoft can only accommodate at most two accounts on one PC? (a personal and school/work account). I'd be interested in creating a Microsoft account that's completely unaffiliated with any licenses or subscriptions, and would love to be able to run this third instance of OneDrive on my PC without having to un-link one of the other two.

In addition to this, I think I understand what happens to your 1TB of OneDrive storage if you let your 365 subscription expire, but I just wanted to double-check and make sure that I have it right - if you let your subscription expire, you get to keep your Microsoft account with OneDrive (with storage downgraded to 5GB), but the actual license (and access to all of the Office products that go along with it, excluding OneDrive) expires. And if you want to get everything back to how it was, you need to re-purchase a single-use license or re-subscribe to 365 using the same Microsoft account. Is this all correct?

    Thanks for any help!

Strange fresh windows 10 problem - update immediately locks computer and breaks windows

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 09:02 AM PDT

Fresh install of Windows 10 Education. Second I try to run update though, the same thing happens (after every time I fresh install windows). The computer freezes, can't ctrl alt del. I manually turn off the computer and when I turn it on again, windows won't start up at all and it either hangs at the windows logo or goes to a black screen, making me have to format and reinstall windows.

Have checked system files, ssd integrity, run memory checker.

It's a Dell Optiplex 9010. I've tried reverting to the previous version of the bios since this seems to have started to happen after a bios update. First time I installed windows on here there wasn't an issue.

Anyone know if there's any custom lock screens for Windows

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 08:04 PM PDT

For some reason today I got the urge to change my lock screen. Specifically I wanted it to look and function like Arch Linux's i3lock. I used to use this a lot when I had linux installed, but now that i have Windows 10 on my Surface book, I don't really wanna install Arch on it again. I was considering disabling the lock screen and programming my own that would just disable Input except for the keyboard to input a password, although I do really like Windows Hello. Anyways I was wondering if anyone else had some ideas, or knew of something.

Is there a way to use other versions of windows on windows 10?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 10:00 AM PDT

So I have Windows 10 on my PC and am studying for IT certifications which will require me to have knowledge of some of the previous versions of windows, Vista through 8.1. are there any emulators or anything similar out there that will allow me to play around with these versions on Windows 10?

    Thank you.

Pinning File Explorer window/folder to desktop

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 12:41 PM PDT

For some reason I was thinking it was possible or I have seen before that it is possible to place an interactive window from File Explorer to the desktop, i.e. a static window that takes over much of the display/wallpaper.

The purpose I am looking for here is to be able to access a specific folder whenever all windows are minimized, and that it starts with Windows. This is for a computer setup for a business, and in this case the folder would be a network share drive.

Is this possible? I seem to remember doing something like this before, but maybe in the Windows XP days (?). Looking now for way to do this on Windows 10.

    Thanks :)

I think this would be the right subreddit for this because the xbox app is a default windows app and i dont think this is appropriate for the suggested r/TechSupport.

    Preparing Automatic Repair loop

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 03:02 PM PDT

Hey guys! I really need some help. My computer keeps trying some Automatic Repair nonsense, failing, forcing me to restart, and looping the process. Everything I try goes back into this loop. I can't afford to reformat the drive as this is my school laptop. I have a lot of thesis work here and I can't afford to lose it.

I've tried a whole host of things and can't get into my own PC and I'm incredibly scared and frustrated.

explorer.exe crashes every few seconds due to corrupt Microsoft Account.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 07:43 AM PDT

On any PC that I sign in to with my Microsoft account, explorer will repeatedly restart itself. The problem doesn't occur for other accounts on the same PC.

Event Viewer says that the Faulting Module name is StructuredQuery.dll

I've tried running SFC and DISM

I feel as though a corrupt file is being synced on my Microsoft account, but I don't know how to prevent/repair the issue.

    Win10 - Blocking USB ports

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 12:37 PM PDT

Need some expert advice here - how do I blocked access to USB ports beyond keyboard and mouse stype peripherals with Microsoft native tool sets. The requirement is to block external data ciphoning devices i.e. Flash Drive, USB drives etc. but allow peripheral devices like keyboard, mouse, camera etc.

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What program can I use that can do that & see their screens too?

They're all connected to the network. Thanks

Did a clean install on XPS 15, have questions. Am I infected?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2018 11:18 AM PDT

After I first received my XPS 15, I did a clean install of Windows to remove the dell bloatware. My PC was running fine until a couple of days ago when I left it idle. When I came back after a couple of hours, my laptop had restarted and was on the "Reset your PC" trouble shooting menu, except I could not choose any of the options to system restore, reset, or even just restart without returning to this screen.

Luckily, I still had my flash drive from the previous clean install, and so I did another clean install, deleting all the partitions and whatnot during set up. After I successfully completed the clean install, updated drivers, and installed chrome, I restarted. When I restarted cmd flashed up and then closed. I thought this was peculiar, and when I checked my task manager I noticed some processes that I did not recognize:

    • Isuspm
    • Jusched
    • Udaterui

I read that Udaterui is typically associated with McAfee, which I've never had on this computer. I also read that some viruses disguise themselves as these files to avoid detection. Malwarebytes did not detect anything, but I'm still worried. Is my computer infected? If so, what course of action should I take? Another clean install?

    Thank you in advance

TL;DR: Clean installed W10, worked fine for few weeks, then stuck in bootloop for reset PC menu. Did another clean install, but noticed processes that I hadn't seen before. Worried I may be infected?
