Basic Java Experience and Feeling Lost When Starting App Development

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 11:18 AM PDT

Hi there, I have recently started app development with the goal of developing android apps in the future. I understand the basics of Java (data types, variables, functions etc.), and have heard that this is all you need to start app development, as everything else is just the basics, but a little more complex. However, each time I start with trying to develop an app, I get lost and quickly. The java tutorials don't cover all of the functions that people call when they are developing apps for example, they don't cover lots of things and I end up feeling unmotivated and quitting. Where can I go to learn these things? And is there anything I'm missing, because everyone else makes it look so easy! But YouTube tutorials miss so much, they only cover the basics and I am left knowing how some things work and not how to apply them.

    Need help using layouts

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 10:30 AM PDT

Basically we "learned" how to make an app in Android Studio after 2 years of programming and passing Highschool level programming exams(Am 12th grade atm). But the teacher who was supposed to teach us to code didnt really do his job well, he just told us to copy his code every lesson as examples, and we had to learn alone.

I am currently working on my final project, an app. I am creating a game, and really need help with the layout parts, since that is what makes android studio different than what we learned for 2 years. I want to make a game that is based on a screen containing coordinates, that way I know where each thing is, and can easily change things to the way the game is going, such as moving something from (0,23) to (50,50) etc. After asking some people was told that the best way to do so is not grid layout, but rather using a relative layout. does anyone know how I can do so without having to type in the exact ammount of imageView that I want(1 for each coordinate).

TL;DR - how can I set up an invisible grid on my screen for coordinates that will allow me to control and know where each thing is on the screen?

I'm trying to create a relatively simple logo following the material design guidelines, but have no idea where to begin.

Could one make a virtual machine for rooted devices with Xposed to run apps which require SafetyNet?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2018 09:50 AM PDT

Let's say you have Xposed installed on your Android device, and thus you can't use Snapchat, or perhaps something more important, like a bank app. What if there was another app you could open, through which you'd be able to use those aforementioned apps. Kind of like a virtual machine. How would you go about creating something like that?

Are there any superior alternatives to this method? Could you maybe dual boot OS's in order to use those apps?

Horizontal Overscroll to Reveal Hidden Views

    Posted: 13 Apr 2018 04:16 PM PDT

Would anyone have information on how to achieve the following effect in a vertical RecyclerView:

    https://i.stack.imgur.com/RKtL3.gif

Both the Instagram app on Android, SnapChat on Android and iMessage on IOS have this ability and I'd really like to implement this into the chat component of my app.

I've been trying through a variety of means and can't for the life of me figure it out.

    Things I'd like to achieve:

    • Overscrolling horizontally (in an otherwise vertical RecyclerView) will reveal hidden views that appear to have been off screen

    • When the user stops touching the screen the revealed column of views snaps back in to place off-screen.

    • If possible, the column of hidden views that are initially off-screen are really an extension of the itemViews that populate the recycler view, but that are in a sense "cut-off", leaving a part of the view off screen to the side.

Would greatly appreciate any guidance in figuring this out.

    Thanks!

(Potential) Google Play Store name copyright issue question(s)

    Posted: 13 Apr 2018 07:33 PM PDT

I am currently working on an application that I'm planning to deploy my app to the google play store soon , and I'm wondering if there is another product(unrelated to mine) that has a name similar to mine, how big of an issue would this be? I don't really see the app itself being profitable(as far as I know) but just a quality of life app.

Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.
