Something size similar to the macbook. Fast and doesnt lag out. Dont really care about gaming, dont care about music (im a boring guy). Dont have a budget on spending either. [link] [comments] |
Laptop recommandation : Acer Swift 3 vs Asus Zenbook ux430 Posted: 04 Mar 2018 02:59 AM PST First and foremost hello since I'm new here. Im trying to make a decision for a university laptop (im studying computer science) and i need something thin and light to carry around university to write code and courses and to last me all day. My budget is around 2900-3000 romanian lei(meaning 800$). I dont really need a dedicated gpu since im not playing any games and the only coding im doing its not really intensive and for that anyway i will use my pc. At my local store i found these two laptops : Acer Swift 3 with 8gb of ram i5 8250u 3.5 ghz and 256gb ssd m.2 pci e Asus Zenbook UX430UA with an i5 7200u 4gb of ram and 256 gb ssd I'm really confused in making a decision since both laptops are really compelling and are apart with like 30 dollars. (The zenbook costs 1100$ but its cut off by 310$~) I'm really liking the zenbook for its thinnest light weight design, 14 inch screen in a 13 inch body, aluminium build and that radial brushed top is amazing. It also does have great battery life, a glass trackpad, led keyboard thats not obnoxious with weird colors(i love white),and windows 10 pro out of the box, the port selection is just perfect for me and the screen is visible better than acer's. But the 4gb of ram thats soldered and not upgradable and the 3mb cache last gen processor are a big turn off. I have the alternative of 8gb of ram and an i5 8250u the same as acer's but at 200$ more and i dont really have the cache. The Acer laptop draws me because of its price (its not a sale whatsoever) its better by a long shot processor and 8gb of ram that are still soldered on. The gorilla glass is okay and i dont mind the reflections nor the fingerprints, the build is steady but not really at the same level like the zenbook. The plastic trackpad feels okay but im really worried about scratches and the off-center position of it drives me crazy (why dont put the trackpad in the middle of the laptop for aesthetics and symmetry??). The swift 3 is also a little bit larger and heavier and the power cord comes with a big brick in the middle which sucks unlike the zenbook power adapter(in terms of portability and fitting in my backpack thats pretty heavy already). Also i could hear sometimes the fan louder when the zenbook is dead silent. The matter is,i like the zenbook a lot but the power it has is anemic for 2018. Im just thinking in the long term use case (3-5 years) that if i would be required to work in lets say a project for uni in android studio on the zenbook it will be nothing but a frustration. And sadly i cant afford right now to invest more and i need to buy a laptop really soon because my old one just died on me. I dont really mind the camera quality and the audio sound(since im using headphones usually) but i ve heard that asus has better quality and louder speakers and thats also a thing to consider when occasionally playing music in my dormitory. I really dont know what to do,any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

Laptop recommendations / advise: Dell XPS 15 (9560) VS Lenovo Yoga 720 Posted: 03 Mar 2018 07:50 PM PST Any recommendations / advise between the: Dell XPS 15 (9560) - 15.6 Infinity Edge Touch Display, Core i7 – 7700HQ, 16GB DDR 4 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, 512 GB SSD Vs Lenovo Yoga 720 - 15.6" IPS Borderless Multitouch, Core i7 – 7700HQ, 16GB DDR 4 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, 512GB SSD Besides the similar specs, what are the actual performance and ergonomics like? I will mainly use them for office work, design work and casual gaming Or should I wait for the XPS 15 (9575 / 9570)? Anyone know when the release date and how much the XPS 15 (9575 / 9570) will be? Need advice for the Lenovo IdeaPad 720s (with ryzen 7 2700U) Posted: 04 Mar 2018 01:23 AM PST I'm a MacBook Air 11 inch (Mid-2012) user and I'm interested in the Lenovo IdeaPad 720s. Is this laptop good for high school and games like overwatch, rainbow six siege and CSGO and music production (btw I'm going to be using lots of VSTs, samplers and audio samples)? Also, how is the thermals and fan noise? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Good 2 in 1 for drawing; No Surface please! Posted: 03 Mar 2018 09:02 PM PST
Ideally, I'd like to keep it under 300 USD. I'm willing to go somewhat higher, if nothing decent fits in this budget. I'd rather pay more than get another shitty one.
I'll probably only use this for drawing, taking notes, and general internet use. I don't even really watch videos much. I guess I want it to be as fast and accurate as I can get for the money. The Surface was absolutely horrible for drawing; the lines would shoot across the screen, and it wasn't steady, even though I configured constantly and bought it brand new. :( That's why no Surface this time. I'm trying to avoid glitchy art.
Not very important. As long as I can carry it to class with me without it breaking my back.
Windows
N/A
I have a nice desktop for all my games, fancy programs, and what not. Like I said, I just want to be able to draw purty pictures, type, and look at reddit on this thing.
No games.
Touch screen and a good keyboard.
I was falling in love with the Yoga Book, but I started talking myself out of it because of the keyboard and the fact that it's Android 6.0. Can I even update it? I saw that there's a Windows version, but I read somewhere that it doesn't work as well. Not sure how true that is. I also know nothing about Android's OS when it comes to laptops or tablets, only phones. I fell in love with the Yoga 720 too, but I really don't want to drop $1,000 on a laptop again. The Surface Pro 3 kinda ruined my laptop life. I have computer PTSD now. Thanks for any help in these trying times. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Mar 2018 12:37 AM PST I'm looking at the spectre x360 and the yoga 920 i5 8th gen base models. They both have the same specs. Both about £1070-£1080 with student discount. The only real difference is, the spectre x360 has 4k while the yoga 920 has FHD. I don't know whether the build quality of the yoga beats the 4k display, or the 4k is worth any potential returns. Or if you can even see the difference in a 13 inch model. Help much appreciated. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Laptop configuration with both a spinner and an SSD drive Posted: 03 Mar 2018 06:36 PM PST How are laptops configured that come from the factory with both a conventional HD and an SSD? Is the SSD (typically 128-256GB) set up as the C:\ drive with the OS installed and the spinner set up as the D:\ drive? I've largely been ignoring laptops with that setup in my shopping. If I buy one with a spinner, I plan to replace it with an ssd (assuming something like a Samsung 860 Evo will work in most laptops as a replacement). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Mar 2018 08:16 PM PST Starting in the second paragraph It is expleined what I want the laptop to be, the first one is just the backstory of my ignorance. Hi. I recently turned 18 and my parents told me that they would buy me a laptop because I have never had my own (Even though all my family had). Well I had, all of wich had been inherited, or been in bad shape, too used, or simply old. Its not that I didnt want one, Its just that It wasnt a priority. I kinda stayed in the aged of books . In the last 2 years I have been playing a little in this old acer i3 Windows 7 that doesnt support very well Chrome, (I have to use Edge, and even that is far from perfect) but somehow support a game called Brawlhalla that I have really enjoyed, I have tried buying and playing other games (Civ 5 and Portal) but the Pc doesnt support them (Portal a little, well not a little but bad). So as my parents will buy my a laptop so that I can do homework of the U efficiently I am thinking in spend my own money in the same, so that I can aside from homework, mayby play games that are heavy. The first thing that I want to know (And I know that it is very ignorant) is the difference between a Office laptop, and a Gaming laptop. What I want is laptop that can play games that can play most games at least in Min, I would obsolutely welcome that the games look nice but in reality I just want play them. I think that for this I should choose Office because what I do more is deskwork in a laptop, gaming would simply be a plus, and then I guess that the money of the laptop would go to other areas. But you are the experts, what do you think? Spesking of money Im willing to pay 700 dollars, I would welcome a less but that is more or less the top. The quality would be quite important becouse I dont think I will buy another laptop until this one stop working. Or in like 4 years? (Havent had a Pc that has kept being usable that long, but well I have never had great Pc I think) Too It has to be at least a little popular becouse I dont live in the US and in my country I dont think that arrives specific laptops. (Mayby yes, I have seen more than a little of pc gaming stores but I dont want to take risks) If Im not wrong that should be all. Thanks in advance, I will be revising the coments at least for the next 2 weeks so dont stop commenting. And I will edit this post when I buy it. So that you arent recomending a laptop to someone that just bought one. Sorry for the bad english, I am not native speek and I am sleepy. [link] [comments] |

Are IPS panel worth the extra money? Posted: 03 Mar 2018 11:48 AM PST I can't decide between some laptops, some that have IPS lack specs compared to other that have better specs but with TN panels. I've read once if I'll use IPS I'll never look at TN panel again. How true is that? Is it just about color shifting when I look from extreme angels? Because honestly I don't care about that. Need new laptop(~14") under $800 for school(US)!. Please help? Posted: 03 Mar 2018 07:18 PM PST My old laptop (Lenovo Yoga 700 14") died. Mobo got fried by a rogue screw. I'm not super savvy with laptops so it'd be great to have some guidance. Here is what I need. I really like the 2 in 1 factor, so I can turn it into a (fat) tablet if I need to. Something more than 13" and less than 15" would be best. A 1080 touchscreen is necessary for I take notes that way. I don't really carry notebooks. It must run Windows 10 64bit. At least 2 USB ports. Extra points if they're USB-3. Something with an i5+ would be nice... I won't be doing any video editing but recording some video with OBS or running the occasional video game would be nice. Maybe some Skyrim or at least WoW at decent settings. A back-lit keyboard would be a plus. I never needed one until I had one and it's kind of really nice. Definitely something reliable with a good built quality that can last. I was looking around and found two that seem really cool. I need help deciding or if you have an alternative suggestion, I'd appreciate that too. I would really want to buy one tomorrow, Sunday, if possible or Monday at the latest: Acer Aspire R 14: https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2498473,00.asp?tab=Specs Dell Inspiron 7000: https://www.pcmag.com/review/354488/dell-inspiron-13-7000-7378?tab=Specs Thank you! Posted: 03 Mar 2018 08:51 PM PST I'm a resident of India and laptops are hell expensive in India. So I am considering getting it from the US. One of my friends lives in the US and he will carry one for me when he comes back to India (maybe after 3 months). I had considered buying the Acer Aspire E15 but I just realised that Acer doesn't have a global warranty. So I will have to pay a hefty fee if the laptop needs some service later. Can anyone recommend me a non-Acer alternative with similar specs and pricing? [link] [comments] |
[USA] $800, Primarily for Gaming Posted: 03 Mar 2018 08:48 PM PST
My total budget is about 800 USD and within the USA.
I would want to have the best specifications to my requirements for the money. I would prefer not to have a 2 in 1 form factor. I would like to have a decent battery life, as I'm not necessarily going to be away from a power supply for long periods of time.
Weight isn't an issue.
Preferably a Windows OS.
N/A
I primarily need a laptop for everyday needs that can handle some gaming. As someone interested in cyber security, I would like to have a laptop that can give a decent amount of memory (2-3 GB) to a single VM without heavily affecting my other programs.
I primarily play MapleStory on my free time, which is heavily reliant on memory if I remember correctly. Other than that, I would like to be able to play Minecraft at a decent quality.
I want reliable business grade build quality and a good keyboard. I would prefer not to have a touch-screen. I have no opinion on having a finger-print reader. I would like an optical drive, but I can pick up an external optical drive if need be. I'll primarily be aiming to use a USB mouse.
I will primarily be using this laptop for searching surf the web, listen to music, some gaming, and the occasional VM use. If within budget, I would like to have a computer that has a slot for my Samsung 850 EVO - M.2 SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-N5E250BW) and/or the ability to replace the memory sticks within my laptop.
