    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:13 AM PST

Download Lean Launcher from the Google Play Store!

If you prefer the debug version, no worries, you can download it from Github, here. Look for "LeanLauncher-1.0.0-5-play-debug.apk"!

    Credit

Huge thanks for the excellent work of /u/AmirZ, without his work, I don't think Lean Launcher would have been born.

    Changelog (since 0.3.0):

    • rebase to Rootless Pixel Launcher 3.2
    • create Play Store variant
    • bump libraries
    • fix typo (status bar -> navigation bar)
    • add companion app for "At A Glance", so Play Store variant can make use of it (sorry Pixel users, you won't be able to use this)
    • app editing: fallback to default icon pack, hide from app drawer
    • new app shortcuts: Edit & Uninstall (they are both hidden if desktop is locked)
    • cleanup of settings screen, now it is categorized, it should be easier to navigate through it
    • option to change search providers (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo)
    • hotseat background color: transparent, gradient, solid
    • various "bugfixes and performance improvements"

    Full feature list:

    • Notification dots
      • on supported devices
    • App shortcuts
      • static shortcuts from android 6.0
      • dynamic shortcuts on support devices
      • extra shortcut option to edit or uninstall apps
    • Dynamic icons on supported devices
      • for Google Calendar
      • for Google Clock
    • Quick actions
      • swipe down for notifications with one finger
      • swipe down for quick settings with two finger
    • At A Glance
      • with a companion app
    • Google Now
      • only for debug builds for now
    • Search UI
      • hide bottom search bar
      • change search provider
      • colored G icon
      • hide app search bar
      • hide app suggestions
    • Look & Feel
      • force light or dark theme, or just based on your wallpaper
      • change Hotseat background
      • change grid sizes
      • change Hotseat icon count
      • change icon sizes
    • Edit apps
      • hide apps from your drawer
      • change icon shapes
      • support
    • Other
      • allow home screen rotation
      • disable spring animation
      • toggle navigation bar transparency
      • lock your desktop to prevent accidental changes
      • double tap to lock

    What has happened since 0.3.0?

First of all, I wanted to create two companion apps, one for At A Glance (this is ready), one for Google Now. Sadly, so far all of my implementations sucked for one reason or another, so I still need time for that. If you can't live without Google Now, I suggest you to use the debug build from Github. If you don't really care, use the Play Store version.

But than, Amir released version 3.2 of Rootless Pixel Launcher, so I changed my mind: rebase Lean to make use of 3.2, and implement a few more requested feature. Look at the changelog, I think it looks nice. :)

    What's next?

I have my eyes on two things:

    • stabilization, this is the most important. I have now included crash reporting in the builds, so I can monitor if I need to act on something.
    • proper implementation of Google Now companion app.

TL;DR: Download Lean Launcher from the Google Play Store!

[DEV] Home Agenda, the calendar widget to rule them all - it's gorgeous!

    Posted: 01 Mar 2018 08:29 PM PST

    Download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.agenda

I know, not the most original idea, but after seeing MKBHD video about his apps and the Today Widget being kinda broken I decided to make a new one and It's beautiful!

One of the main motivations was after seeing other similar widgets and most look like ass or have weird permissions or lack of Oreo support (and more...) and have big apks for something so... lean. There's always room to re-invent the wheel with something better 🙌

As usual with all my apps feedback is appreciated, but my main goal is to keep it simple, beautiful, small apk size (it's ~1.5Mb now) so not looking forward to clutter it up.

Believe it or not, making a functional good looking widget is... surprisingly dificult. And then going around Oreo's Background Limit changes was another monster. Spent a full week almost non-stop on this but I'm very happy with how it turned out!

I spent a long time making the screenshots for the Play Store page so check them out to see how the widget looks like.

The app is currently translated to portuguese, spanish and russian, with more to come!

Support for Reminders will be added with version 1.1

I'm a radiologist who needs to click a lot of xray, CT scan and MRI images. A black and white filter is optimal for that. However, OP5 doesn't have one in the camera app. Any apps here that can help me in clicking pics in grey scale mode? Ps: I would prefer clicking in grey scale than editing later

Youtube music player like Pvstar+ or Firetube?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:53 AM PST

I like being able to stream youtube music with my phone blacked out. I used to use PVstar+ but then it got taken down after version 2.6.4, then I managed to get away with Firetube, but that got taken down also. Is there anything like that out there? Much appreciated.

Looking for a family tracking software that's not invasive

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 10:57 AM PST

My wife and I tried Life360, but even when we set no background data, and force quit it. It would find a way to turn back on and use data.

So I'm looking for a simple app, where we can link our phones and ping each other's locations, but won't use data unless actively pinged.

[REQUEST] Time management app that subtracts user-entered time from a total monthly goal

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:57 AM PST

I am looking for an app where you can set a monthly hourly goal for an activity and the app displays the increasingly smaller amount as hours are completed. Please let me know if you have seen something with this capability: if someone set a goal of 50 hours for X activity, the user could enter in that goal and if they complete an hour, they can enter in that time and the app shows 49 hours left to hit the goal. I noticed some apps where you can track time in a positive direction, but I am more motivated by seeing a total time goal go down (versus going up as time is entered). Thanks!

Software keyboard recommendation for frequent spacebar misses?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:33 AM PST

    Recommend a software keyboard?

I don't think I've ever had a software keyboard that I liked and sorta miss my Sidekick phone from many moons ago.

My problem is that my right thumb will hit a '.' or an 'm' or 'enter' instead of hitting the spacebar. Spacebar need to be longer or bigger, idk.

Any suggestions for a new keyboard? It drives me crazy.

    Cheers

Ring.to is shutting down; I need an alternative free service to migrate my number to

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:14 AM PST

For those unfamiliar, ring.to is (soon to be was) a service which lets you call and text over a data connection. Since it's shutting down and I want to keep my phone number I need to port it to a different service. What follows is a list of desires and requirements for the replacement I'm looking for:

    REQUIRED:

    • Free
    • No Google/Facebook integration requirement
    • Android 4.4.2 compatible

    DESIRED:

    • Lightweight
    • Local Contacts integration
    • VoIP, SMS, and MMS capability
    • Decent encryption/security

So far I'm leaning toward Talkatone, but it's definitely not lightweight and I'm unsure of the security. I'm unfamiliar with other alternatives - I only know of Talkatone because ring.to mentioned it as an alternative service to port to. I'm hoping there are some other apps users here can recommend.

Request - Alarm app that gets turned off when you type out a phrase of your choice?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 05:56 AM PST

So let's say I set my alarm for 7:30am and as I'm doing so I type in what is effectively the password to shut off the alarm. Like 'walk dog' or 'early meeting'.

Basically force yourself to remember why you wanted to wake up that early.

I have a barcode scanner alarm and I usually leave a to do list next to the bar code I scan but I would prefer this sort of thing but can't find an alarm that does it.

App that allows me to set a ringtone to specific senders on SMS?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:27 AM PST

To be more specific, I need an app that allows me to set custom ringtones to specific contacts on my phone. I often get work-related messages while sleeping, and they're important and I need to react to them fast, but I'm not going to wake up if someone sends me a text message .. at the same time I can't set some ridiculous sound as a default sms sound because then any message would wake me up, and I do get a lot of spam sms and such.

I'd like to think there's an app that allows me to do this, but my google-fu is failing, so any help would be appreciated.

    App name request/help identify

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:47 AM PST

I remember a few years ago, I used a app where I could control the whole screen but moving my finger/thumb on just a small area of screen. A virtual pointer would appear on the screen and when I released my finger it would select that area on the screen like I was tapping the screen, good for one hand large phone use.

Does anyone know what the app is called or a similar application. I can't find it my old installed Apps on play store.

    • Quick Tools: Give you ability to turn on/off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, Flash light,...
    • Soft Keys: Replace your hard key like Home, Back, Recent Apps, Power Keys
    • Calendar: Manage, create, remind importants event for you.
    • Music: Listen music at anytime with powerful music player.

On next stage, I will develop more edge panels like Weathers, Screen Capture/Recorder, News, Livescores.

With Edge Action, you have everything inside 1 app. No need to download more.

Thank you for spend time to read my post. If you are interested, would you give me a try ?

I'm giving away 99 promo codes to remove ads for Edge Action. Leave your feedback in this post or via email, I will send you promo code.

Outlook for Android + change from archive option to delete option

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 11:16 AM PST

    LG G6

When I get an email notification from my Outlook app, I pull down the notifications panel and I get two options : Archive (bottom left of alert) as well as Reply (bottom right).

I don't archive anything and would like to replace that with a delete option. I have looked in different settings but have found no setting for that. I've also searched on google and here but no joy.

Is it possible to change that in Outlook, or do I have to use a different mail app? And if I have to change, do any of you have a good replacement recommendation?

I recall that delete option on there before, but it may have been another app.

Thanks for any help. I'd appreciate your time replying. Thanks!

    Contact manager with flexible sorting

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:36 AM PST

I've just moved from iOS to Android. Apple's "Contacts" let's me set each individual contact to be sorted by last name or by company name. So, out of 1,000 contacts, 430 may be sorted by last name, and the rest by company name. Are there any Android contact managers with that flexibility ? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

S/MIME signing in android gmail app

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 04:43 AM PST

    Hi!

I'm struggling to do S/MIME signing of outgoing e-mails in android Gmail app. I already successfully imported the certificate into the phone running Oreo 8.1 and opted for app/dev use of it (not Wifi use). Still there is no option to do the S/MIME signing of the outgoing messages.

How can I sign outgoing messages?

    App That Simulates Button Presses?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:58 AM PST

Saw an app where you can create workflows that can even copy your button presses. Can't remember the name of it.

Whenever I connect to my work's wifi, a screen pops up, and I have to accept the agreement. I'd like to use this app to have it do that for me.

I'm not sure if it required a rooted phone. I've tried to root my Honor 6x with King Root with no luck, and don't have a Windows computer.

Bought Habitbull premium a few months ago. After formatting my phone, it isn't recognizing my premium account and the app developers aren't replying on email. What options do I have left?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 09:57 AM PST

I bought the HabitBull premium a couple of months ago. I formatted my phone yesterday because it was being really slow. After logging into HabitBull again, it doesn't recognize my premium purchase. And the customer care hasn't replied to my emails over 2 weeks. I can't ask Google for a refund and I can't purchase it again as it's a bit costly (non-US). Do I have any options?
