I'm genuinely curious. Why my Win10 PC haven't rebooted aggressively since I bought it? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 09:01 AM PDT Browsing Reddit, I come across posts about people complaining that their PC rebooted while they were streaming or working etc. but it never happened to me. In a few days, I will reinstall my Win10 so I would like to know why.
I'm genuinely curious why it never happened to me? Did I do something unknowingly that prevented such behavior? I installed Win10 myself to this PC and I don't remember changing a setting about it's update behavior. And I just checked my update history; it shows it's been updating regularly. But why it never restarted while I was in the middle of doing something? My PC stays turned on for at least 12 hours a day. Some days I keep it on at nights while I sleep so it renders some scene in the background. I'm afraid that after I reinstall Windows it will start automatic reboots that people are talking about. Trying to free up space on laptop so as to install update Posted: 30 Mar 2018 01:06 PM PDT I need 8 GB of.free space in order to install the new update. I keep deleting and deleting stuff but it won't let me update! I've deleted all that I can and the disk cleanup thing hardly deletes anything at all, maybe 1 MB at a time. What to do? Trying to use file path for a video on a USB drive Posted: 30 Mar 2018 07:44 PM PDT I have a document on my thumbdrive that has a bunch of videos hyperlinked to in it. The videos are all in a folder on the thumbdrive. The problem is, when I transfer the thumbdrive to a different computer, most of the time the drive letter changes (e.g. C:\ to E:) which makes my hyperlinks no longer valid. Is there a way I can make the hyperlinks dynamically use the drive letter in the hyperlink? Are there any other workarounds? [link] [comments]
Program to see if files exist in a location Posted: 30 Mar 2018 05:58 PM PDT Is there a program that works similar to a duplicate file finder, but will only check to see if files already exist in a specific folder location? My use model would be the following: I have thousands of photos scattered across different drives and directories. I try to keep my library organized in a Lightroom catalog on a specific drive, but after many exports to various locations I have photos scattered across my computer. I would like to find all the photos that do not exist in my Lightroom directory so that I can copy them to the appropriate sub-folder there, while also finding the photos that are already in my library and delete the redundant duplicates. Posted: 30 Mar 2018 03:36 AM PDT Windows 7 64. I want to resize my windows partition to make a dual boot system. Gparted for linux refuses to resize without moving the start sector which I heard can mess it up. Windows disk manager will only allow me to shrink the size by a small amount due to unmovable files. Can't start a partition manager in safe mode for some reason. Whats the easiest way to actually resize the partition without the headache of hunting down a dozen different files to disable? Windows Store Error Code 0x80073EE7, Check Connection Posted: 30 Mar 2018 04:26 PM PDT Okay so Im going to start off by saying I've tried pretty much every fix I can find. Registry repair using CCleaner, reinstalling apps through Powershell, stuff through CMD, wsreset.exe, emptying the Store package file in AppData, changing the DNS, changing the IPV4 settings, etc Is there seriously no way I can just uninstall this POS thing and reinstall it cleanly? All I want to do is transfer Forza Horizon 3 and the damn Store doesnt even work. [link] [comments]
Windows 7 available updates disappear after few minutes Posted: 30 Mar 2018 03:51 AM PDT After the February 2018 updates I noticed this problem: When windows does the automatic update search if it finds important or optional updates, the notification of these updates will disappear after a few minutes and the following message appears: Windows is updated, no update available for this computer. The only solution to continue seeing the updates available (Important or optional) is the manual search for updates, in this case they do not disappear, but the problem reoccurs after 1-2 days. For example: Today when I turned on the PC, windows found an important update (KB 4100480) but the notification of this update disappeared after about 5 minutes and Windows update said that there were no updates available. So I had to do the manual search and the notification of available updates is back. [link] [comments]
Transfer Windows 8 OEM License from Notebook to New Desktop Posted: 30 Mar 2018 07:49 AM PDT THANKS GUYS! SOLVED! :D Hey all :D In the past, I bought a notebook with, as usual, Windows 8 pre-installed on it. However, I am migrating to a home-built Desktop (therefore, it still has no OS). Is it possible for me to transfer my W8 license from my Notebook to my Desktop? PS:I know that the license is apparently attached to my Notebook's BIOS. Summary: Is there a (LEGAL) way to "deactivate" my Notebook's W8 license and reactivate it on my Desktop. Thanks in advance! :D [link] [comments]

Any decent driver check software? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 01:31 PM PDT Right now I'm under assumption that maybe one or more of the drivers installed in my PC is causing my Windows to freeze, forcing me to reset it. But unninstalling and reinstalling every single driver sounds unpractical. Is there a decent driver check software that you guys would like to recommend me? A software that can read through all my devices and check their drivers installed in my machine that could tell me if there's something wrong so I can fix it asap? Thank you in advance. Windows 7 update - KB4088881 ? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 01:05 AM PDT Windows Update now offer KB4088881 update. It is supposed to be: March 23, 2018—KB4088881 (Preview of Monthly Rollup) so I guess it is not something you should install on a production system. EDIT, definitely not https://www.askwoody.com/2018/friday-night-patch-dump-kb-4088881-a-flawed-win7-monthly-rollup-preview-and-kb-4089187-an-ie-fix/ [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Mar 2018 12:29 PM PDT Today, I had to download a program for college. It was so we can use Autodesk at home too. My processor (an I3-4005u clocked at 1.7 GHz) never had any problems with running the games I play and with running everyday programs (Spotify, chrome, ...) In the background meanwhile. After I had downloaded the program I needed, my laptop started loading the processor for some reason without autodesk even running. Right now just opening Chrome and loading a webpage without any other program running makes it spike right up to 100%. I have no idea on how to fix this or where to start looking. When I tried to delete the Autodesk folder in C, I got an error noting me that I can't delete it because i'm not an admin when I am the only user and have admin properties. Can anyone help me please? Wifi Tethering on Windows 7 - no SSL connection? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 01:23 AM PDT I set up a Wifi Hotspot on a Windows 7 Laptop following the best answer here: https://superuser.com/questions/251509/tethering-on-windows-7 (the command line one) It works, I get Internet-access with a second device. However, I get the "your connection is not secure" page on every homepage I try to open. How can I change this? Thanks in advance Eric [link] [comments]

Free tool to TOTALLY stop aggressive Windows 10 upgrades Posted: 30 Mar 2018 05:22 AM PDT I understand that Windows must be updated. But I don't like the aggressive way how to Microsoft upgrades Windows 10 to a new version in March. I have a working PC with 32GB SSD, where the upgrade will never be successful, because of low free disk space. But this PC was rebooted and full screen notification disturbs me every day. I created StopUpdates10 to take Windows update under my control. I tested several tools before it, but I don't like a way how they work. They delete some files/change permissions of system files, etc. I used another way: set Windows group policy, disable service and block from running the Windows update related processes. It is easy to undo. These changes do not break Windows and user's applications. It works well for me. Probably, it may be useful for others. It's at your own risk. Any help/suggestions/bug reports are appreciated. [link] [comments] |
