Newegg Deals, laptop for Political Science graduate Posted: 17 Feb 2018 02:16 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $600 but preferably closer to $500, in the U.S. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Who doesn't want good battery, but mostly best Specs for the money. How important is weight and thinness to you? Probably pretty high, this is for my wife who is 5' 4" barley 100lbs, so probably nothing that's going to tip her over haha. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mostly for Business, so basic programs. One that she has used in the past that she might need to use again is ArkMaps. But my wife does like to play games like Sims and things, so something that could handle that if we decide to get it. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Sims is probably the most intensive game(my wife mostly just plays it to make things that are cute so no ridiculous FPS is necessary) Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Nothing special Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. So this is for my wife who is graduating from college with a political science degree. Up to this point shes been using a very old Microsoft surface that still works but she gets upset that you can only download apps and not programs. Mostly the laptop would be used for business if any new jobs don't provide computers (we're both still in college and honestly don't know what business tend to provide) but she likes to play games, mostly older ones Age of Empires II and such but she does like Sims games so we might get that. Right now Newegg has good deals for the kind of laptop we are looking at, the Acer Aspire, but there are a couple that I just don't know if they'll be worth it. Which one doing you think is best out of these three? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834316293 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834316125 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834316214&ignorebbr=1 [link] [comments] |

My brain hurts from thinking over this... send help (student) Posted: 17 Feb 2018 06:53 AM PST I'm a student looking for a new laptop. My three main needs are a long battery life, a decent GPU for decent frames and graphics on games like OW and PUBG as well as a good laptop overall. My current laptop is a 2015 macbook air 13" and its falling apart. My main itch with it besides it's emerging problems is that it can't run games at all. I've recently looked at different windows laptop geared for work/ gaming but I can't make up my mid. So, I ventured onto reddit and am now looking for advice. Should I get a MBP 15 with the radeon 560 , or an aero 15 with the 1060 or the dell XPS with the 1050. Any other suggestions appreciated Thanks for reading this! [link] [comments] |

I don't need a powerhouse, but I do need something that doesn't freeze or stutter while having multiple tabs, with text, video, and basic med programs. Good screen resolution would be ideal [link] [comments] |

How long do laptops usually last before being unusable? Posted: 17 Feb 2018 03:38 AM PST I'm going to college for a 6 year degree (Medicine) and i was wondering if laptops usually last that long before being a slow paperweight? And if possible, can you recommend me a 500$ laptop? Looking for best bang for buck. I've been searching for weeks and couldn't really pick one out [link] [comments] |

Posted: 16 Feb 2018 10:07 PM PST I got a new laptop with only 256 ssd and wondering what type of external hard drive to get. I'm pretty short on cash after the laptop purchase and wondering would a 5400rpm external hdd be good enough? Comparing prices, I could get a 2 tb external hdd for about 70 whereas 250gb ssd would be 80. I'm thinking I will need something to store lots of video and pictures. Could I also store games and run them off the external hard Drive? [link] [comments] |
Any suggestions for Windows 10 laptops that charge via 30w type c? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 09:07 PM PST Basically, I want to use a USB PD power bank* with a laptop, and besides the new MacBooks, there's not much information on which laptops can be charged with a powerbank that outputs 30 watts over type c. Some of the power bank reviews say that the power bank will work with the XPS and HP Spectre, but others say otherwise. A lot of mixed messages so any help would be appreciated. *Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/RAVPower-Portable-26800mAh-Recharged-Nintendo/dp/B01LRQDAEI [link] [comments] |

Is it a good time to buy a new gaming laptop? Posted: 16 Feb 2018 03:02 PM PST Im noticing that Laptops with Nvidia 1080 all seem to be on discounts these days. I think this is companies dumping their stock in anticipation for the next graphics card series to come out. My question is, as consumers ($1500-$2000 range), is it a good idea to wait for the new series to come out or buy now? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:35 PM PST Sub /r/buildapc doesn't seem like the right place. And other subs I could find deal either with desktops or servers. I'm looking to get a semi-cusom-built laptop or a laptop + docking station solution. But most custom-built solutions seem to be for gamers. I need a workstation that can run with multiple external monitors and run Linux with a high-end cpu and lots of ram. Where would I look? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:12 PM PST Do We Know When HP Is Set To Release It's New Iteration Of Spectre And Envy Laptops That Would Likely Include A Design Update? I Think I'd More Interested In The Envy Line When They Add Support For USB-C PD Support. [link] [comments] |
Need Help Choosing a Laptop - 800ish- USA Posted: 16 Feb 2018 06:03 PM PST I posted on Suggest a laptop, and I got some good feedback, but then I over researched and now I'm looking for more opinions. Total budget and country of purchase: USA, Around $800 but I can go closer to 1000. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Looking for a 2 in 1 and good specs. Usually near an outlet so battery life doesnt need to be anything incredible. How important is weight and thinness to you? Medium importance, I do travel with my laptop. Used to the size and weight of a Macbook Pro. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows or Mac Do you have a preferred screen size? 15 or less. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I use my computer a lot to stream netflix and watch movies, I'm also terrible about having 5 million tabs open in chrome. I do basic word processing and such with the microsoft office suite. Will be using some kind of comic book reader as well. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Maybe occasional web games, not much else. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I am a big movie buff, so a nice quality screen for that would be lovely. Good build is important. I've had my macbook pro 6 years and am hoping to keep my next computer nearly as long. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I've had the same macbook pro for 6 years, I am very open to but unfamiliar with any other machine. I was recommended the Acer Spin 5, and also was looking at the Lenovo Yoga 720. I've heard acers can break easily though. I'm also wondering if it'd be worth it to splurge during the presidents day sale and get the Spectre x360, or if there's something I'm missing. Mainly I'm looking for something that's going to be worth the money and last a long time. [link] [comments] |
