How to get ants out of a laptop without being able to purchase much? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 01:25 AM PST Operating SystemWindows 10 Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard)Lenovo T410 Speccy LinkN/A Description of problemAlright guys, this is a weird one, I know. I'm currently on holiday in Vietnam with my old second-hand lenovo. At some point, I guess someone spilled something over it or got crumbs in there? Hell, maybe it was me, I don't know. Whatever the cause, I apparently invited a family of ants to come live in my laptop. I know this because whenever it gets hot (like sitting on my blankets when I'm using it in bed), there's a sudden outpour of 20-30 ants. The first time it happened, I thought I'd got them all, but then it happened again. My issues with this is that I'm from NZ, a country very serious about biosecurity, and I need my laptop. If I can't fix this problem in 3 days, I'm going to have to 'fess up at the border (because I may need my laptop, but my country needs not to introduce a random new species of insect more) and I'm definitely going to get it taken away from me. Hopefully just for cleaning, but there's the possibility of destruction there... Right now, I'm sitting with all my airvents blocked by a towel and running my laptop in the hopes of heating this sucker up, but I don't know what else to do. I also can't buy much or go to an expert because I don't speak Vietnamese and this isn't something that can be easily explained through mime. How do I debug this laptop?? I can usually figure things out myself, but this has me stumped Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:00 AM PST So let me start off by saying everything is fine. Everything works fine, my pc is as fast as it should be. I scan it any time it's slightly slower than it should be or if it's running a little loud. It's as clean as a whistle. But every single time I log in after I restart, I am only greeted by a command prompt and a blank screen. I know that explorer.exe just needs to be started so I just type the command and it doesn't happen again until I restart. It's not a big problem, just annoying as fuck. [link] [comments] |
Mic Issues with Scarlett 2i2 + MXL 770 when using TS/Discord. Posted: 01 Jan 2018 01:47 AM PST So my brother and I have nearly identical set ups, and my friends always complain about my mic going "robotic" sometimes. I recently started playing some PoE with thy brother and he apparently has the same exact issue. https://clips.twitch.tv/ViscousAuspiciousOstrichPJSugar I clipped it and am looking for any suggestions on how to fix it. It doesn't happen all the time, and when I go back to my streams, it doesn't show up on my stream. Only when using Teamspeak/Discord. Looking for advice on what this could be as I cannot figure it out. [link] [comments] |
Any USB dongles out there that support Linux and windows and don't cost an arm and a leg? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:18 AM PST My current dongle (Netgear A6200) doesn't work with Linux unfortunately so I can't even do anything on my Ubuntu partition until I can get a different dongle. I also want to add Bluetooth capability to my machine so I'm hoping I can find a dongle that does both, but so far I haven't found much and I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations. My side boot is currently Ubuntu 17.10 in case anyone's wondering. I would greatly appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |

So my email is smalz1014@aol.com I made a joke email to fuck with my friends edgyemoblackwizard420@gmail.com The problem is when I added the aol account as a alternative email it somehow made my google account email the joke one instead of my real one and now my google account that has all my crap is under the joke account and not my real one. Please help me determine the issue I'm having by looking at my event logs Posted: 01 Jan 2018 12:21 AM PST Playing games causes my gpu is lose signal and forces me to restart my pc by holding down the power button. I made sure all my drivers are up to date and even performed a fresh install of windows 10. I was playing GTA V for about 30 minutes when my monitor loss signal but was able to recover by pressing ctrl+alt+tab. While pressing those keys, I came across this error message. I immediately checked my event logs and found these two errors. After this happened I launch GTA V in another session and was able to play for about 45 minutes until my monitor loss signal and was not able to recover. I was forced to shut down by holding down the power button. After rebooting I checked my event logs and found this error that was similar to the first session. My gpu drivers are up to date, I upgrade my psu, and even reinstalled windows 10. I monitored my temperatures while playing gta v and my gpu reached a max of 64 degrees Celsius. Both fans on my gpu were operating. I did not overclocked my cpu or gpu. My pc specs are: Operating system: Windows 10 Education version 1709 (OS Build 16299.125) All parts listed above are less than 2 months old. What is causing this issue? [link] [comments] |
Why isn’t ANY DNS server working? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:10 AM PST For some reason yesterday no matter which DNS server I use whether it's my ISP's, Google, OpenDNS or Level3 it fails to resolve some domains like Microsoft websites, Quora and some other random websites. This is happening to all my devices on the network and I have no parental control blocking features enabled. How can I fix this? [link] [comments] |
Samsung SSD 840 EVO keeps freezing Posted: 01 Jan 2018 01:53 AM PST During normal work on my computer (only chrome) my SSD just freezes up randomly. (SSD partition for W10, HDD for data) Read/write goes to 100% and computer becomes unresponsive. I need to shut down the computer so it can work again. It happens pretty much every half hour. Interesting sidenote: i just did a full reinstall and problem continued (became worse). Did an update of my drivers already as well. Help is welcome! [link] [comments] |
Replacement remote controller for a stereo receiver Posted: 31 Dec 2017 11:10 PM PST This may be an odd request but does anyone know how to find a replacement remote for a stereo system? I got a Sony Str-De575 from my parents but they don't have the remote anymore. The actual model of the remote (Rm-u305) is pretty expensive online, so I was wondering how I might find a generic controller that would work for it. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2017 05:00 PM PST I am about 10 hours into playing AC:O on Windows 10 and all of a sudden my screen started flickering. The GPU is a GTX 1060 and is only a couple of weeks old. I tried uninstalling my graphics driver and reinstalling it but this did not affect the problem. I also tried doing a system restore and it did not help. What else can I try? How can I tell if it's a hardware issue, since it doesn't seem to be a software issue? Here is a video link of the skipping. I can take more videos if it would help. EDIT: It seems to have been a bad connection between the graphics card and the motherboard from a bad slot. [link] [comments] |
Wifi dies about once a day, but wired connections are fine Posted: 31 Dec 2017 07:31 PM PST I have an Archer C7. I have a PC connected to it via PC and 7 android phones connected via 2.4 GHz. About once a day, sometimes as long as once in two days, the wireless connection seems to just die. All android phones simultaneously lose connection and cannot "see" the network in the network browser. Power-cycling the router fixes it for a day or so. The ethernet connection does not have any issues. Where should I start? [link] [comments] |
DC power jack for laptop is burnt Posted: 31 Dec 2017 08:26 PM PST I own a Gigabyte p55 laptop, and the past few months I have had charging issues. The laptop would randomly stop charging for about a second, then resume charging. This happened almost exclusively while gaming, but lower settings to the minimum didn't work, so I assumed it was a power issue inside of my laptop. Additionally I have had the "plugged in not charging" issues (Windows 10). I used my brothers charger because he has the same laptop and that didn't solve anything. I then opened up my laptop, and sure enough one if the cables were fried on the end. Here is pics https://i.imgur.com/iwNxHVH.jpg I've searched everywhere for this part online and with no solution. What can I do? I'm a broke college student so going to a repair shop is my last option. These cables for other laptops are less than 10 dollars online, but I can't find mine. Would another brands cables work? Any and all advice is appreciated. P.S. for the "plugged in not charging" issue I've done other troubleshooting like updating drivers. [link] [comments] |
Computer restarting (not overheating) Posted: 31 Dec 2017 06:04 PM PST I recently made a post on a similar topic, but an update to the situation meant I have decided to create this post. Okay so, a few months back my PC started playing up, it would restart only when playing games (at the time I only really played Rainbow Six, but it wasn't just that). Took it to the repair place and they have replaced the PSU and fitted a temporary CPU Cooler, it has worked fine since 14th December, until now. I looked at the temps are when playing they sky rocket, my CPU temperature (FX 8320) will go from 30 to 55/65 celcius, and my "TMPIN2" will go up in the 80's. I thought it was overheating, makes sense since the temporary cooler is crap and my old one (that broke) was a liquid cooler. Just now, whilst on discord talking to friends, it restarted. I wasn't looking at the temps but I am almost 100% sure it wasn't an overheat. Discord isn't intensive at all, so that makes sense. Could the cooler be causing it to restart and I should wait for my actual cooler to be fitted? I also have a house fan next to my PC. Thankyou. Specs~ AMD FX8320 AMD R9 270x Ga-78lmt I'm not an AMD fanboy I bought it pre-built at the time I knew nothing about computers. The PSU is brand new, it has been working fine since December 14th (today is January 1st 2018, lovely way to kick of the year). I can use my PC, it loads up fine. Displayport to hdmi wont go over 1080p Posted: 01 Jan 2018 03:37 AM PST Hey all I'm having problem trying to get 1440p 60hz on my tcl 4k tv. Before I'm using hdmi to hdmi hooked to r9 290 but I figured I try DP to HDMI since I have read that DP is superior. But I can't even get past 1080p. On HDMI to HDMI I can go 1080p 60hz - 1440p 30hz - 4k 30hz On the new displayport to hdmi I can only get 1080p 60hz max So my end goal is to get 1440p 60hz on my 4k tv. Can anybody help? Is it normal for W10 to update so much? Brand new Laptop. Posted: 01 Jan 2018 03:24 AM PST I just got a new laptop, this is the first time I'm using W10. It's doing one update after another, one time it was stuck on 99% for 6-7 hours. It finally closed down, when I opened it again it asked for my hotmail password. I said "Finally it's done", but when I entered the password it started yet another fucking update. Is this normal for new laptops? It's pretty infuriating. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2017 05:40 PM PST I'm watching NHL streams off reddit from my PC to my HDTV connected by HDMI. Up until about 2 hours ago everything had worked fine all season. Now I'm getting lag. It doesn't buffer it just goes in slow motion for a few seconds. Catches up and then keeps doing it . If I watch in a windowed screen it does it less. As soon as I go full screen on the TV it starts again. I'm on game mode on my TV, only thing I have done in the last week is update Windows 10. Any suggestions. Audio? Video? [link] [comments] |
[Help] how do I retrieve data off of an old laptop? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 03:19 AM PST I have an HP 15 laptop that died in 2015, I think the motherboard might have gotten messed up from water (beer) damage that seeped through or the constant use might have overworked it, I don't know since I'm not too savvy. I have several other laptops that I use nowadays and I was wondering if there is a method available to retrieve my dead laptops data from the hard drive and access it on my current laptops. Is this even feasible? If so, is the process conplicated for someone who has never messed with computer hardware before? [link] [comments] |
My GPU burned PSU cable that was leaning on top of it Posted: 01 Jan 2018 03:09 AM PST Today when I turned on my PC I smelled like something was burning, and I immediately assumed that something is wrong with my PC. I opened the case and saw that a little bit of smoke was coming of the PSU cable that was leaning on PCB of my GPU. When I moved that cable I saw that one pin out of 6 has malted and deformed. Also the same thing happened to a few cables that exit from that 6-pin connector (I can see bubbles on both cables and pin). The cables that melted also go into 6-pin connector that is currently connected to my GPU. GPU has no marks of melting or anything on it. So I was wondering should I be worried, even tho everything is working fine. Thanks in advance and I wish you a Happy New Year! :D [link] [comments] |
GTX 1060 MAX Q only showing 3GB of vram. Posted: 01 Jan 2018 03:05 AM PST Hello there, I recently got a new laptop with a GTX 1060 max q. It says it has 6GB of vram but whenever I check on Can I Run It for some games like Gears of War 4 it says I only have 3GB? Is there any reason why this is? Do you have to do something to have the full 6 available? Thanks and happy new year! Dell 7577 GTX 1060 MAX Q 16GB RAM I7 [link] [comments] |

Is it possible that e-mails I send from an Outlook alias automatically get marked as spam? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:52 AM PST I made an alias in Outlook a few weeks back and I made it my primary alias. On the same day I sent out a bunch of emails using that alias, and today I got two responses from people I sent emails to that my mails got marked as spam, while emails I sent using my original adress didn't. Is it possible that e-mails I send from an alias automatically get marked as spam? If so, why, and what can I do about it? [link] [comments] |
Monitor not detecting desktop at all Posted: 01 Jan 2018 02:49 AM PST A few days ago my monitor started to begin going black and unable to display anything after around 10min of turning on my desktop. Today it seems as if the monitor is unable to detect and display anything anymore no matter how many times i reboot my desktop. I tried connecting the desktop to another monitor and still it was unable to detect the desktop at all so I assume the problem should be in the desktop instead of the monitor. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? [link] [comments] |
Moving backup slave hard drive to new computer without backing everything up to external hard drive Posted: 31 Dec 2017 10:54 PM PST I know moving a drive with a windows installation on it is a no-no, but I have a 2GB HDD that I use simply as a backup drive. No programs are installed on it. I recently purchased a new PC, and would like to move this drive to said PC without having to backup the entire drive to a external drive, which would take ages. Please tell me I can be lazy on this and simply move the drive to the new PC! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:49 PM PST So basically whenever I turn on my laptop I'm playing a lottery, sometimes it'll have no problem connecting to the internet (I'm using wifi) but when the times I do try to connect and I'm unable to, I can't do much, even if I troubleshoot and it fixes, next time I restart laptop I get a blue screen of death, says DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION but in the dmp it's just blank. The filename that causes the error is hal.dll Anyone have a solution? Unsure how to make it so my wifi always works, rather than 50/50 if it does work or not on startup *So when I'm unable to connect, its the regular unable to connect to any wifi for going on any browser, the little dinosaur pops up for chrome, but on Performance on task manager it shows I'm connected Also I'm using a guest login on my windows 8 laptop, would prefer not to swap over to admin account [link] [comments] |
