    TMobile Galaxy s8 active review

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:42 AM PST

I picked up the s8 active a few weeks ago along with a note 8 as part of the BOGO deal. I was using the s7 and nothing released really interested me enough to upgrade until I saw that the active was available for TMobile.

Why the active and not the s8/8+: The reason I chose the active over the normal s8 is because I hated the curved screen. It seems difficult to protect. If they had a flat version I would have gone for that instead as the active was bigger than I would like my phone to be. Another reason was that I didn't want another phone covered in glass. I have not cracked any of my phones but it is always on my mind that any drop increases the chance of it happening. Additionally, the 4000mah battery and band 71 support makes me feel like I could really use this phone for a long while.

Initial thoughts: Coming from the s7, the active is bigger and way heftier feeling. This is not a nice phone to drop on your face when browsing laying down.(it hurts a lot!) I have very little doubts about the build quality of this phone and it's survivability to drops. Everything about it feels sturdy. The combination of the rubber material and metal that covers the phone feels nice in hand. I really like the fact that the screen is actually flat from edge to edge unlike my s7. I was really happy to be able to put on a glass screen protector that actually covered the whole screen without issue. The phone comes with a microusb to USBC adapter, USB to USBC adapter, and the AKG earbuds which is pretty nice.

Usage: It definitely feels snappier than the s7. Noticeably less lag opening apps or switching between apps. I haven't really done anything with bixby yet but the fact that the extra button is there didn't concern me. I don't like the fp sensor placement but I have gotten used to it. I miss having a physical home button, but the hard press where it used to be is good enough.

Battery life: Freaking amazing. I can browse, watch videos, play games, use gps, and stream music throughout the day without needing to plug in. Yesterday I got 8 hours and 26 minutes of SOT over the course of 15 hours. This is mixed LTE/WIFI with Bluetooth on. I use lux with my maximum brightness at 50%. This is without using any battery saving modes. I could never even dream of getting usage time like this with the s7.

In conclusion: Tanky s8 with amazing battery life.

My 2017 - The year of switching, and the P10.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 04:16 AM PST

31 of December and 2017 is soon to end. For me it has been a year of smartphones, and to be honest a year of unfulfillment...

I thought I share my story, please let me know yours.

Going into 2017 I had a OnePlus 3 (not T, and I was still pissed about that). Before that I had a OnePlus one and I felt home with the OnePlus phones. However I got a new job were I was allowed to choose my one phone and decided to choose a phone for its camera since that was what the OnePlus was lacking. Since I was on a budget (kind of) I went for the Huawei P10.

The Huawei P10 was actually a great phone and the camera was great, I am definitely not a pro photographer but I really liked the results. My only problem we that coming from OnePlus, the phone developed for the entusiast i felt that the P10 was a little "meh".

I therefore, went back to OnePlus by purchasing the OP5. Holy moly was that a snappy phone. Super fast and fluid software and a much better camera them in the 3T. However, seeing all bigger brands (Samsung, Apple, Huawei, google pixels, and even OnePlus with its 5T (yep, pissed again) ) I felt the OnePlus 5 did lack that extra which many 2017 flagships had. (Read: small bezels, even better camera, and so on) I sold my OP5 and bought me an Essential phone.

The Essential phone is my daily driver right now. I love the screen and build. Love the footprint and the software. It is a really good phone, over all. It does have its problems and one of those are definitely the camera. My first impression of the camera was that t was Soo much better than all the reviews and Reddit threads stated. I got some really good results with the Essential phone. Then came the Christmas and with that a lot of low light indoor photography which showed how much the camera is behind phones as the Pixel, Note 8, iPhone 8+/X, Huawei mate 10 pro (or even P10).

So what I am going for here is that the Huawei P10 is a way better phone then it is recognized for. It is an overall very good phone software and performance wise and with a camera that is actually quite good it wins my small (very small) phone of the year award.

How was your phone year and which is your favorite?

    OIS on Snapchat disabled?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 09:20 AM PST

I'm not sure if anyone alse has noticed this.Yes I know that Snapchat on Android sucks but i just realized that the OIS on my phone (LG G6) is disabled. This results to shakier videos and much more blurry photos. I've confirmed that my OIS does indeed work when I use my stock camera app. Heck, even when using the Messenger app, the OIS works.

ATMS - Fitness Tracker Now Released To Production

    Posted: 31 Dec 2017 01:01 PM PST

Right well, I've saved from posting in the main thread for a while now, the idea was to only do it once I was to release it to the general public, so here it is.

    ATMS - Fitness Tracker

Just in time for New Year eyy (P.S Merry Good New Year lol)

    Back to the app.

    Features the App brings:

    • Tracks nutrients i.e calories, protein etc
    • Tracks water intake
    • Food diary can retrieve information from database.
    • Or food can be added manually
    • Foods can be saved to avoid having to search again.
    • Log your exercises with the exercise mode.
    • Multiple workout routines can be saved and selected for exercise mode.

    So why ATMS?

    • 1. It will remain free (Yeah really)
    • 2. Very little information is collected (Only some to identify crashes)
    • 3. No ads are used yet.
    • 4. No account required.

How our app differentiates from others?

This was asked by a fellow redditor, so let me just paste you my answer.

    Hello *******,

That's a good question indeed, allow me to try and answer this for you.

    • First let me begin by saying that my app is not just a calorie tracker, its a "Fitness Tracker" this basically means that it will have multiple features which you can use to track your fitness in one app. These features include:

      • Track foods consumed
      • Store your workout plans.
      • Log your exercises (weights lifted etc)
      • There are a few more features which I will be implementing as soon as the first public version is out, these include integration with Google Fit, android wear and fitness band support etc
      • Moving on, one of the main motivations for me creating this app was that various other competitors charged hefty subscriptions for some basic VIP features (I am a student, and only have a part-time job, hence budget is minimal) whether that is to track other nutrients like carbs and fat or provide them "priority customer support", which In my opinion is just not worth the money. Again nothing wrong with this strategy, they are a business after all. But the main disadvantage is that this completely side steps the other group which is the non payers. What does that mean? Well, first it means that non payers cannot track other important nutrients such as fats, which is extremely important due to the health implications which can be caused by over consuming this nutrient, therefore non payers have an increased risk of health implications of eating too many fats. Secondly, they are giving more priority to a certain group, therefore what they implement will benefit them more. Whilst, my aim is to provide for the whole group as one, whether that be features or excellent and quick customer support. > > * Another thing which I believe that sets my app out from the crowd is that the developer/founder (me) is a fitness enthusiast who uses the app on a daily bases. This means, that I share similar experiences with my users, hence the app is more likely to get relevant features (which people want) and get rid of things people hate about apps like sensitive data collection and annoying ads.
    • The last thing I'd like to say is that my apps aim is to Help users get healthier therefore expect to see various features implemented to fulfil this goal, e.g. a blog, daily fitness and health related tips, a forum to discuss experiences (which I will be a regular contributor of) and just a place to provide motivation for each other.

Thanks for reading and sorry for making this so long (was meant to be short lol).

So there you have it, why not take a look and send me some feedback :)
