I know I probably sound like a kid trying to bypass Parental Controls, but I really need to find out quite soon. [link] [comments]

Utilities for large copies from Windows Server to NAS Posted: 02 Jan 2018 03:14 PM PST Hi All, I will need to do a once off copy for 20TB~ worth of files from a Windows 2012 R2 server over the network to a Synology NAS. Are there any recommended fast and reliable utilities to use? I was planning on using RoboCopy with logging. The majority of the files are 1GB-10GB but there are also some much smaller 1MB-4MB files. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Fall update is bricking my computer Posted: 02 Jan 2018 05:33 PM PST Context, I built this two years ago, it runs a 6700k i7, 980ti and 32gb ddr4. I did a fresh install this weekend and started streaming league. The update hits, and obs got so choppy it was unbearable to look at. Once it was done, same problem. Every program opens slow and my league FPS went from 300 to under 100. Ive fresh installed 3 Times and it's the same thing every single time. Any ideas? I'm very close to giving a windows rep the worst cussing of their life. [link] [comments]
Cursor disappeared following creator's update. Posted: 02 Jan 2018 12:43 PM PST Hi all, I downloaded the windows 10 Creators update about 2 weeks ago following the prompt telling me to upgrade. (I was under the impression that it was released about 2 months prior to this so I have no idea why my machine waited so long, but that's beside the point) Since upgrading, I've encountered a few minor problems, like the colours on my 2nd monitor getting all screwed up, but nothing that severely affects normal operation. (I also fixed this by switching to another resolution, which isn't ideal, but it works while I wait for Microsoft to release a patch) However, I now have a major problem, that problem being that I cannot use the mouse. The cursor seems to have disappeared (It does not even appear in the centre of my screen as it should when the OS boots) and I cannot get any kind of response out of my computer with the mouse. I can still navigate parts of the system using only the keyboard (albeit in a slow and tedious fashion) but I cannot use any of the programs that I usually use for my work, as the programs in question were designed to be used mainly with a mouse. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, can they recommend me a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling/rolling back windows? Thanks :) [link] [comments]
How do I permanently disable Windows updates? Posted: 02 Jan 2018 04:11 PM PST I heard about the recent security fix that will impact computers by up to 30% and frankly my computer can't take even the 5% hit. So I'm done with Windows updates. I never liked the forced updates Windows 10 pushed on people and now I want to completely end them. Is there a 3rd party app to do it, or is there a way to manually do this? I refuse to get this update. [link] [comments]
Need some help with VirtualBox... Posted: 02 Jan 2018 08:20 AM PST Hello guys. So I recently started using VirtualBox and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I first tried Windows 3.1 then Windows NT 4, 5, and Windows 95. Today I installed Windows 98, however, I'm struggling a little bit with the drivers. I don't know if VirtualBox automatically installed the drivers for the earlier versions of Windows, but for NT 4, all I needed to do in order to set up the networking was to go through a simple wizard, and then the internet worked just fine. With Windows 98, it's a bit different. The wizard doesn't do anything, and even though it tells me the connection is fine, I still get the "Page cannot be displayed" message in Internet Explorer. Also, for earlier versions of Windows, I was able to install the sound driver just with the Windows built-in wizard. But the worst is that, I cannot find any good, compatible graphics driver for Win 98. The most recent driver that I've tried made me unable to boot into Windows, and it just crashes whenever I try to boot. So the final question is...how do I get the right drivers for a Win 98 virtual machine? [link] [comments]
Any way to force 5.1 audio to output, from a 2.1 audio source? Posted: 02 Jan 2018 08:33 AM PST Recently I've run into a bit of a problem, when trying to listen to music/watch video on my surround sound system through YouTube I'm only getting 2.1 channel audio. Is there any program/chrome extension that would allow me to force audio to play through all of my speakers, instead of just the 2 front facing?if it helps, I'm on windows 10, and I have the surround sound connected to my pc via hdmi. Windows 8.1 - How can I backup my partition to an image? Posted: 01 Jan 2018 11:10 PM PST Hello all! I have Windows 8.1 on an SSD that is a little...odd, to say the least. Sometimes it boots, other times it doesn't present me with that luxury. I know on Mac OSX, using Carbon Copy Cloner, you can back up your computer to a disk image, and using CCC you can restore the image onto a target directory/disk/etc. Is there an equivalent/similar program/process that works for Windows 8.1? Thank you all in advance. :) [link] [comments]
Windows Movie Maker Quick Zoom Question Posted: 01 Jan 2018 11:37 PM PST I know how to pan and zoom on Movie Maker, but is there a way to do a snappy quick zoom? Like going from a zoomed out picture into a really zoomed in picture without showing the entire zoom animation. [link] [comments]
onenote: hotkey to share and copy share link to clipboard? (shortcut to Copy Note URL) Posted: 01 Jan 2018 09:31 PM PST How do I quickly copy shareable link for onenote notebook page really fast using keyboard (not mouse)? In Evernote, for example, just use CTRL + / and it'll auto-publish and create shareable link plus copy that link to clipboard. [link] [comments]
Getting windows ready- driving me crazy Posted: 01 Jan 2018 08:11 PM PST My computer lately has been getting stuck at 'getting windows ready don't turn off your computer' when I restart every once in a while. It will pop up that screen for hours, do the restart and run the screen AGAIN for hours, and then I'm finally at my desktop. This is super super inconvenient and does it practically every other time I restart, I've even re-installed windows from USB and from disk and it still does this... I tried googling solutions which ranged from 'disable updates' with settings that my computer doesn't even seem to have (such as turning off maintenance instead of being on a schedule) Is there some sort of recent bug or could it be because I have terrible internet or what? Please help.. I hate the uncertainty that out of nowhere I have no computer I have had to go to my campus to use a student desktop multiple times [link] [comments] |
