Remember the right to Root/Jailbreak your device might be ending soon

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 08:35 AM PST

BLUF: It's getting close to the time for the Library of Congress to decide if Rooting or Jailbreaking your phone/tablet/Smart TV/or other CE is considered a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The DMCA makes attempting to circumvent software protections illegal. Unfortunately the 1201 provision to DMCA makes the act of Rooting your device Illegal. The Library of Congress has decided twice that rooting is not a violation of DMCA; however those exemptions are only valid for 36 months.

The most recent decision was made in October of 2015 when the Library of Congress decided that rooting Tablets and Smart TVs was also exempt from DMCA. That means the decision has to be remade this year.

In the wake of Post Net Neutrality lets keep a close eye on this one.

Those with Android-Auto compatible cars, do you like it? How often do you use it?

I have used the standalone app on my phone and while it has some good features, I just never really liked it. For my uses just using the apps I need works better so I'm curious if the integrated solution is better.

My type C cable is electrocuting me.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 05:04 PM PST

I've had my Huawei P9 for a while now, and something strange happened just now.

Was charging the phone while browsing reddit, suddenly, a tingle appeared in my hand. The bottom of my phone was giving me a bit of a shock. I unplug the cable from the phone and test if the plug is at fault. With my finger, of course, like the neanderthal I am. After establishing that whenever I touch the type C end of the plug, I get a bit of an electric shock, I unplugged the cable from my USB hub (Yeah, luckily it was plugged into a hub, so it was only a low amp line)

Is there some sort of inherent design flaw with type C plugs, or is my phone just a cord killer? Also, how is it possible for the current to make it to the outside of the plug. That is something I have never experienced in my life on any type of phone plug. I know I have deliberately tried to get an electric shock from a phone charger when I was little, just to know how it feels, and it was impossible for me to get any electricity to come out.

Whats your worst Android phone experience?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2018 05:57 PM PST

For me, it has to be Lenvovo Zuk Z2 Plus (IN). Bought this phone 9 months back and the second month itself I knew I made a mistake. So slow, phantom touches when using on charging, poor gaming experience, worst fucking UI of all time, No updates even after promising they are working on Nougat, Poor hardware, poor customer support etc etc.

I mentioned poor customer support, because I have never faced this issue with other phones from Lenovo. My phone stopped charging when I used my charger from Moto and when I gave it for repair they said it will be ready within 5 working days, only it didn't happen. They kept on saying they didn't have the needed part and didn't provide me with a backup phone or anything. I got my phone back after 2 months. This happened within 2 months after purchasing the phone.

To me, this was a like a nightmare I would ever want to experience again, so no more Lenovo phone for me. 4 of days back I bought Mi A1 and it's really awesome, already got Oreo. :D

YouTube will definitely be on it. I expect Google to announce this at I/O. Chromecast built in will be on it I hope. What else would you like to see?
