For what it's worth, I'm pulling r/apkmirror out of the grave again

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 09:18 PM PST

Direct links to the most popular APK uploads will now be posted by /u/APKMirrorBot as well as some auto threads encouraging the community to share the best APKs of the week. I'm working to make the sub can return to its original goal of making it easier for Reddit users to find the big APK uploads of the day instead of searching all over APKMirror's daily list or tech site announcement posts.

Reddit app on pixel running android oreo problems for anyone else?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 09:36 AM PST

Just got the most recent update which changed the font (only noticable update) but now when I close out or hit back button from a topic it takes a solid 3/4 seconds to return to the subreddit. Everything else runs smooth as normal except this. Anyone else running into this problem? Should I just uninstall and reinstall?

An app for SD card -> USB OTG backup/sync?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:11 AM PST

Going on a month long trip and want to collect media from several cameras onto a USB drive without dragging around a laptop. I've already checked and can easily copy media from my S7s SD slot to an external 2.5" drive via an OTG adapter, so theoretically all is fine.

Does anyone know of any apps that would make this process plug and play or at least super easy? Sync files from SD to OTG drive, skip duplicates that may not have been deleted off the SD, possibly include source SD name in target path etc?

Hope this is specific enough and appropriate for the subreddit.

    Thanks.

    Hi all,

I'm running a custom ROM on my mate 9 and rooted it and can't use Android pay.

Is there a work around or other mobile wallet that can work over NFC?

[DEV] CameraAlert - The easiest way to detect if the camera is in use by malware or software

    Posted: 27 Dec 2017 09:58 PM PST

    Hey /r/AndroidApps,

i've been working on this app called CameraAlert that sends a notification when the camera is on. I made this due to the fear that people can access your camera by installing unwanted apps.

I have it set as a open beta and would love some feedback to fix bugs. I have also posted some Promotional Codes below: (please comment what one you used and i will strike it off the list)

A weather/clock widget look like the weather widget from EMUI 5.1

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 07:37 AM PST

    Hi,

Since two months, I have an Honor 9 and I like the weather widget built in the EMUI ROM. Unfortunately, this widget seems incompatible with Nova Launcher. So, I search a widget that I can get clock and weather from two locations (like a home location and current location) in the same time.

    Thank you.

    XMODGAMES Alternative?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:55 AM PST

I've been looking for a MOD center like XMODGAMES, it used to work great on previous phones but for whatever reason it's not working on my S8+. I was hoping to find an alternative someone may know about or a solution on why or how to get XMODGAMES to work.

    Thanks

Can't use apps that rely solely on the Menu button

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 09:43 AM PST

I'm a newbie when it comes to smartphones, so maybe I have something wrong. But on both a Samsung G4 running LineageOS (based on Android 7) and a Samsung 8+ running stock Android 7, the Menu key (lower-left button) is hijacked for system functions, and doesn't get through to the app. I happen to want to use an app called Encrypt Editor that has just about all of its settings and options and search etc through that button. But when I press the button, it goes to a system function, not the app. In Settings/Buttons (approximately), there doesn't seem to be a "just let the button go to the app" choice.

Is this some problem in Android 7, or a behavior of the launcher, or my own stupidity, or what ?

Sorry if I'm using the wrong names for things or something.

    Mixplorer 2012 - 2016 updates numbers

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 09:39 AM PST

Recently i've noticed that there are many updates to Mixplorer. So I've decided to check the data behind the numbers.

Luckily the dev added changelog of old versions, so i collected the numbers and analyzed them. here are me results:

The table describing the data: https://imgur.com/QT7Xbbh

The graph showing the results: https://imgur.com/EQmkkPf

    My humble conclusions:

You can see that at beginning there were less updates, and rational number of features. As time passed and reached to 2016, V6 came out and many updates after it. So, maybe the number of updates is not that required, Or there aren't enough features for each version. Another thing is, that maybe its time for Version 7 finally.

I cant tell the dev what to do of curse. But for a while I've been thinking that this used-to be my favorite file explorer needs a change.

Disclaimer: some of the numbers might be slightly incorrect cause i had a lot of data to analyze.

Chrome with Adaway or Firefox/Samsung browser

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 05:46 AM PST

I have rooted my phone and installed Adaway. Is Samsung browser or firefox with Ublock origin better than Chrome + Adaway. Also is Adway still the best app for blocking Ads or are is there any app better at it? Any other browser recommendations are also welcomed

I bought Jade Empire and have low internal storage but a lot of space on SD card. What can I do ?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:34 AM PST

    What the title says.

I recently bought it but my 16GB internal storage is insufficient even for downloading the said game. How can I trick Play Store to download and install it on my (128GB) SD card?

Flynx alternative with the same tab management?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 12:41 AM PST

Tried the popular alternatives including chromer/flyperlink, but I just really like the way Flynx behaves like the FB messenger chatheads without having to open up a separate tab management window/page.

I'd stick with Flynx if I could, but the bubbles keep repositioning themselves due to the appearance/disappearance of the status bar or navigation home touch bar. I have them hidden in most apps to reclaim that area of my screen, but it isn't possible everywhere. Flynx appears to position itself relative to those bars, and the bubbles just won't stay put where I place them.

Edit: a reader mode would be a huge plus

[QUESTION] Family centric messaging and beyond

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 02:47 AM PST

    Hi!

For the long time for family related messaging and media sharing we have been using Google Hangouts. Recently things have started bugging me and Hangouts seems to be lagging behind competition and very much stagnating.

    Short list of requirements:

    • group chat with history (ideally cloud based)
    • video call capabilities (one-on-one is enough, no need for group video)
    • easily share photos and videos
    • shared media (photos, videos) available in one place alas album or something (at lest something like group media in WhatsApp)
    • Android tablet support (this rules out WhatsApp, Signal, Duo, Allo)
    • bonus: shared media cloud storage or a way to integrate some cloud storage back-end
    • bonus: secure, end-to-end encryption

Another way to look at it is something like Slack or HipChat for personal/family use as long as video calling is supported).

So far I've ruled out WhatsApp, Google Duo/Allo, Signal due to no support of table devices (elderly family members are on dumbphones, but own Android tablets). Telegram has no support for video calling. Wire has issues with heavy battery usage and frankly UI would be weird to use for elders.

At the moment it seems the only viable option is Skype. But perhaps I am overlooking something.

    Will appreciate your suggestions! Thanks!

Did they remove the SIP client in 7.0?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2017 01:51 AM PST

I have a Xiaomi Mi A1 which runs stock android 7.1

I checked the settings in the Phone app and the calling accounts section only shows me my SIM 1 and SIM 2.

There is no option to add Internet Calling Account as in the older versions of Android.
