Any sort of bump to my PC case freezes it up and forces me to reboot. Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:46 PM PST This is so annoying. Ever since I built this PC in May, ANY sort of bump to my desk or case freezes up my entire PC. The screen stays on but literally freezes in place and requires me to reboot. Just now I flicked my case EXTREMELY lightly to test if it would freeze and it did. I cannot stress how sensitive it is and I have no idea why.
I had an overclock but I don't remember what it was. It reset to factory at some point and I forgot that 3.8ghz is stock and I thought it was my overclock. Specs: [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 thinks 12DB is the maximum microphone level instead of 30DB Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:39 AM PST A buddy of mine has this issue on his windows 10 rig. Analogue mics on realtek should operate at 30DB as the max volume in windows IIRC, however he simply can't. The "max" level is 12DB at the end of the slider and as a result, his microphone is crazy quiet. Any ideas what's going on? I suggested unbinding his jacks because realtek has been known to combine the microphones to create 1 half volume microphone, but not only is that bug really old, it also wasn't the problem apparently. So now, I'm just straight up stumped. I know things like MagicJack and other microphone hijacking software can do stuff, but the user claims he doesn't have anything like that installed, just games, teamspeak, and discord. Anyone seen anything like this before? Unsure of the build number ATM but he should be fully up to date and on the latest version/latest updates. [link] [comments] |
Yoga Lenovo - battery won't charge, plugged in Posted: 01 Dec 2017 03:45 AM PST The battery of my Yoga Lenovo won't charge when plugged in. This occurred a few weeks ago and I had to send it to Germany so a component of motherboard was replaced. Just got it back like 3 days ago and it worked fine. But today I plugged it in and I see the same message appear. This happened just after the new windows 10 update. Does anyone have any ideas? Can I uninstall battery drivers with the battery inside (it can't be removed)? [link] [comments] |

Windows messed up my pc after update. Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:52 PM PST Windows says it's time to update. I press update and go to class immedietly after. When I get back, windows doesn't boot and all I get is a black screen instead. I'm still able to go to into bios when I restart, I just can't boot windows. What do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2017 05:40 PM PST I bought a new SSD because my current SSD was only 500 GB and I needed more storage. I wanted to clone my old SSD on to my new 1 TB SSD so that I could use that as my main drive and use the 500 GB one as just a storage drive for Misc. user data. I don't know very much at all about setting boot drives or what is required but I had a few questions. In this screenshot from AOMEI Partition Assistant you can see on my old drive there is a partition that is labeled as "system" and one labeled as "boot." I am guessing that the "boot" status will switch over when I set the new drive as the boot drive but I am concerned about the "system" status. Does that need to be changed and if so how do I do it? Strange request - need help keeping my live-in MIL from brainwashing the kids with Infowars. Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:34 PM PST My crazy mother-in-law lives with my partner and I, and she is constantly listening to infowars videos and illuminati and reptilian conspiracy theories on youtube on her iphone. Not only does it make visiting the back half of our small apartment unbearable, I also worry that it's poisoning our kids - they seem to get that it's bullshit, but I worry that extended contact with that kind of stuff won't be great for their conception of reality. I get that this is a problem best handled by talking it out, or by banning MIL from our house, or whatever. But it's not a normal situation - she's got some undiagnosed mental shit going on, possibly early dementia, and we can't kick her out as a result. So we just have to figure out how to gaslight her out of this. So... what do we do, here? We can get physical access to her iphone. She doesn't get great cell reception in the back of the house, so she relies on wifi. We have admin access to our wifi network. And there's another wifi network that we have access to, but possibly not admin access to (network name is ATT432, so it's an ATT modem... I would be the root access is set to the default pass). New graphics card = neither monitor or USB works Posted: 30 Nov 2017 09:56 PM PST I hastily and foolishly tried to install a new graphics card yesterday by just powering off, removing the old one and replacing it with the new one. The horror when I booted up and nothing was working! I googled some and found out I probably should have uninstalled some drivers in the process. I have tried to reset cmos both with and without removing the battery. Before I left for work this morning I removed the battery since someone said it could take longer. Anyway, if someone got pointers that'd be great. I'm also not sure after this mess at what point I am supposed to be installing the new card... [link] [comments] |
What would be causing my audio to pop and glitch out my computer? Posted: 30 Nov 2017 10:54 PM PST So when I play videos I'll hear a pop come from the speakers and the video will freeze for like a second. Even through iTunes I can hear this pop. Don't hear it when playing games though. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Took a nap and came back to this... Posted: 30 Nov 2017 09:15 AM PST FIX= Go back an update to 1703 or if you are using a Nvidia card go to - https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/7756m6/creators_fall_update_resolution_problem/ and follow the top comment Edit: Thank you for the help everyone! Here's a picture of what I'm dealing with - https://imgur.com/a/DBuQn I went and laid down for a couple hours and came back to this. I have 2 monitors one connected to my GTX 970 and another to the CPU. ( the one with the issue is connected to the 970 ) Things ive tried: - Tried swapping to a different cable, same problem. - I connected the HDMI from the 970 to another monitor with the original cable, No issue. - Connected the monitor with the problem to the CPU, and its fixed. But I need this monitor to be connected to the 970. So the main problem seems to be the 970 to just my main monitor, Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Asus K55N Laptop HDMI Port not working... Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:10 AM PST Okay, so a couple years ago my friend sent me his old Asus K55N Laptop when my old computer died and I couldn't afford to repair or replace it myself. He informed me that the screen was broken so I'd have to use the HDMI port and my monitor or HDTV. This wasn't a problem for a short time, but unfortunately the HDD that was already installed in it was corrupted and stopped working after a while. This wasn't a big problem seeing as I had a couple spare laptop HDDs. Here's where things become troublesome... After switching the HDD, the HDMI port of the Asus stopped working. I'm not sure if it is an issue with the drivers, or if it's just something else wrong with the Asus that we didn't know about until this happened, but I'd like to try and get it sorted out if possible. To expand on the broken screen I mentioned before anyone suggests trying to install the drivers from the computer itself, the break isn't in the glass exterior, it's the actual screen inside of the casing that is broken, and it is entirely impossible to use. I also do not have the money to replace the screen or fully replace the computer itself. [link] [comments] |
Screen tearing on chrome when hardware acceleration is on... any solution other than turning it off? Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:00 AM PST Recently i built a new computer (Windows 10, gtx 1070, i5-7600, monitor: aoc i2379VHE) and have had a very obvious graphical glitch which i think is screen tearing, on netflix and occasionally youtube when fullscreen. Note: this glitch may not actually be screen tearing, i'm guessing it is because i am not aware of any other issues like this. Essentially it looks like horizontal lines flickering around the top third of my screen, but they are similar colours to the video (not black lines or anything) and they vary in range across a few centimetres rather than the exact same spot. Hope this helps I tried many many "fixes" such as v-sync however the problems persisted. I finally discovered the issue is with chrome as on internet explorer the screen tearing didn't occur, an eventually found a chrome "fix", being to turn off hardware acceleration via chrome settings. The issue is, my frame rate seems quite noticeably lower/more stuttery without hardware acceleration. I don't really understand what hardware acceleration does but i'm guessing because my GPU is much better than my processor, its performance is suffering without hardware acceleration. Is there any solution to this tearing without having to watch stuttering videos or succumb to using internet explorer? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Windows Homegroup buffering while streaming Posted: 01 Dec 2017 03:56 AM PST I have two PCs connected to a Windows homegroup, both are located close to each other and also the router. They are connected via N and AC WiFi over 5ghz and the adapter settings show that they can both attain up to 300mbps. I'm streaming videos from the homegroup with one of the PCs using vlc, the video is a high bitrate 1080p file yet I'm still getting buffering and artifacts every few minutes. I've changed the caching settings in vlc so that shouldn't be an issue. Both PCs are connected via 300mbps connections, my router is good, I have a lot of ram and am also using SSDs. Am I being limited by windows homegroup or something else? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Nov 2017 11:42 PM PST I've got problems with files I can't delete. The first is a soundtrack from a Humble Bundle, of all things, which has the file type: zip?key=Z26qekvemmBe&ttl=1393264220&t=4ndf3f90dambc79a105996ha4ddb1f22 which makes Windows Explorer say the filename is too long to delete (or rename to something shorter). Using Powershell the file won't even show up with /dir due to being an invalid name. I tried Unlocker, which says it could not be deleted, and Total Commander, which says I need to remove the write protection. Unfortunately when looking at the properties of the file, the security tab says only that "The requested security information is either unavailable or can't be displayed." The other 2 I believe come from SecuROM DRM after I was stupid enough to install a SecuROM protected Splinter Cell game. The file location is C:\18328296697678\Users\Username\18328296367908\18328296917288\18328296293298\1832829659728 which is where they ended up after reinstalling Windows (without keeping files!) and the file names are ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρЂϻϵЉЃϵϳЅ and ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρϴϱЄϱЃϵϳЅ. Both Windows Explorer and Total Commander claim they can't find the file whenever I try to delete them. The security tab says the same as the first file. Please help me get rid of this crap! I'm stuck with Windows 10 Build 10586 and can't upgrade. Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:59 AM PST I'm stuck with Windows 10 Build 10586 and can't upgrade properly to a recent build. In the settings there are 2 updates: *Version 1607 *Version 1703 Every time I try to update on reboot there is a black screen and I have to restart. So Windows rolls back to the previous version and I can continue to use my PC. Is there a way to solve this problem? Is it related to the fact that my video card (R9 270X) doesn't allow me to install the drivers? [link] [comments] |

bluetooth audio pops in and out Posted: 30 Nov 2017 03:35 PM PST I have an Inspiron 7567 with Windows 10 and ever since I got it i have been getting bluetooth problems, specifically with the audio, like through headphones or bluetooth receiver to speakers. basically whenever I play any type of audio, youtube, itunes, etc. it plays normally but then and now the audio stops and continues playing. not necessarily pausing the audio, just the speakers/headphones themselves stopped then came back on. also it usually distorts or pops the audio after it stops then continues to play normally. also whenever i switch back to the laptops speakers, the problem never happens, so i figured the problem is with bluetooth devices. the only other thing I have constantly connected is my wireless mouse. its really a mystery whether or not its gonna happen after every session using my laptop. Undervolting and Turbo Boosting a MSI GF62VR 7RF laptop Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:32 AM PST As I said in the title, I'm looking to undervolt and turbo boost my newly purchased laptop. If anyone knows anything about it or has any knowledge involving problems that could occur while doing either of these, please share. Also, it would be great if someone could explain to me how exactly to do these things. Really tired at the moment and it was just a late night thought, forgive me if I made a mistake on the flair or if I'm not supposed to post here. Ask for information if needed. Thanks! My PC is not detecting my video card Posted: 01 Dec 2017 02:19 AM PST Here are the specs: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/b3Dkpb I recently built my first PC with the specs above. Everything is working perfectly apart from my video card. The video card is properly connected to the motherboard, and the fans on the card are working, however when I try to connect it to my monitor via HDMI the monitor doesn't display anything. I have used a VGA cable and connected it directly to my motherboard and that works. I went to Device Manager and the only thing listed is the integrated graphics. I also tried to download the drivers for my card, however the drivers won't install because it cannot detect the video card. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
