    Windows 8 update loop?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 01:21 PM PST

    Hey guys and gals. I have an Asus laptop that I just did the "refresh on" (basically a factory reset that leaves my personal files alone). I'm trying to get back to the most up to date software, including 8.1. However, I can't install 8.1 because I get an update required message. I go to Windows update, and it says "restart your PC to finish installing updates". When I restart it, it doesn't install any uodates, and the message telling me to restart is still on the update page.

    UPDATE: it's installing updates now

    Creators Update

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 07:39 PM PST

    Is there a way to uninstall the creators update? It has ROYALLY screwed my pc. Games crash, programs crash, I can't install drivers, its absurd. I have boiled it all down to the creators update I believe. I have done all stress tests and such, but I think it's been nailed down to that. Is there anyway to revert it? Its a fresh OS image installed about a week ago.

    How can websites know my real language?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 07:43 AM PST

    Not only websites like WordPress and Google but also Ads!

    How can they know my real language? I'm using a VPN to UK. And I am not login to any Google email, nor did I registered my real language in email profile. I always select English as preferred language.

    What am I missing?

    Installing OS for the first time

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 07:46 AM PST

    I've just built my PC. I bought W10 Home 64bit (legitimately), which came in a disc. I don't have an optical drive because I was told I simply didn't need one and "that shit's outdated". Seems like this would be easier if I had one, and I'm gonna end up getting one anyway.

    I'm told that I need to download W10, then enter the key (which I bought) when prompted. I downloaded it directly to a USB but gave me a disc full error (even though there's enough space on the USB). Apparently I'm doing it wrong (or aka the 'manual' way) and I need to download the media creation tool? Well I use vista so I can't download that because vista is not supported.

    Do I;

    A. Buy an optical drive and install it that way or;

    B. Download a third party media creation tool or;

    C. Create a bootable USB without using any software (no clue what that is) or;

    D. Get access to a computer with W7 or later and download it to my USB from there (may be difficult) or;

    E. Do something else

    P.S I don't know anything about creating bootable USB drives.

    Hi i'm going to build a new pc. I'm going to take from my old one the ssd on which noe i have installed Windows and put an hard disk in its place. From what i understand i should be able to simply reinstall Windows on the old pc. While i have to buy a new key for the new one. What i would like to now is if i have to do a fresh installation or if i can keep the SSD as it is now and add the new key once i have turned the pc on. Thank you

    [W10] Is there a way to permanently disable Windows Update ?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 01:10 PM PST

    FIXED : see edit Hello it's all in the title,

    I've disabled Windows service and some other services related but nope it will re-enable itself at some point.

    Please don't ask why, I have my reasons.

    EDIT : In backup tab there there's an option to restart service at first failure, that's pretty much explains why it restarted itself all the time. I hope it will stay as this.

    Low available shrink space even though drive has a lot of free space

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 03:40 AM PST

    So I have Windows 10 and I'm trying to shrink space in C drive to install Ubuntu in my PC. The C drive has 45 GB free, but for some reason the available shrink space is only 1.8 GB. Does any know how to get around this? Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/oCLHH

    New Windows7 user. How to avoid any updates or tampering?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 10:53 AM PST

    I have Win8, Win10 and Linux machines. After the new update broke my Win8, I dBan'ed and installed a purchased copy of Windows7.

    Now I want to make sure there are no updates that will lead to Win10-type issues (or any Windows issues). I don't want my computer to freeze certain tasks until I update, I don't want updates by force, and I don't want any Windows bloat/mal/spyware installed via updates.

    I have turned updates off on that machine, but do I need to just not connect to the internet ever, or will Windows7 not update by force like 8-10? Other people have said 7 is the last one that "respected users" in this way.

    Laptop Battery Degrading & Processer Throttling

    Posted: 24 Dec 2017 08:15 AM PST

     My question is: Does Windows 10/8 throttle a laptop's performance just like Apple does, with iPhones and iPads? Coming from a person that uses a laptop and PC on a daily basis (Whether it be for gaming or homework) I've noticed a major difference between the two (And I'm sure you have too): One slows down significantly faster than the other: The laptop. And that's just where the problem starts. The specs of my PC are: Asus Z170-AR Motherboard, Core i7 6700k Processer, 16 GB of DDR4 Ram, and GTX 1070 Graphics Card The specs of my laptop are: Intel core i7 (whatever the laptop version is), GeForce GTX 850m, and 8GB of (I believe) DDR3 RAM. About those specs, I know the PC is an absolute beast compared to the laptop, but we all know that PCs age much better than laptops. And just a sidenote: I understand that the laptop with a "Core i7 Processer" is not as powerful as a PC's Core i7 Processer. (Same with the graphics card) Also, I understand that software is becoming more and more demanding. I have a 4th generation N550JK ASUS laptop, and I noticed a similarly between it (compared to an iPad) when it is factory reset: it's snappy (for a month, let's say) and then it's almost just as slow as it was. I've ran multiple viruses scans from Melwarebytes and ESET, and none were found. Another interesting topic is that the performance of the laptop (cannot stress significantly enough) improves when it's plugged in/charging. This could be because the laptop has to throttle itself some to preserve battery life, but that basically brings us back to the original point of this post. I have yet to run performance tests on my PC and Laptop (And I will update this post as soon as I do) Feel free to add on to the discussion with your thoughts, it would be appreciated 😊
