My S8 Plus camera is very grainy and laggy when taking pictures. Any help/solutions?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:48 PM PST

The rear and front facing cameras are very laggy and grainy compared to the g5 plus I used to have, and the pictures don't come out as crisp as they should for a high end device. The video seems to be incredible though so what's the issue? Thanks

    Moto E4 crashed?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 09:50 PM PST

So I was just casting YouTube and went to unlock my phone and all of a sudden all these notifications saying android crashed and everything went blank. Couldn't exit it. Wouldn't even let me reset it so I popped the battery out.

Then it resetted like it was a new phone. It booted up but my screen, icons and launcher all reverted back to Moto factory. Don't have my texts, pics or contacts anymore. Even logged me out of all Google apps. Now the fingerprint sensor is wonky. Won't swipe right to open recent apps or single tap for home screen.

Any ideas why this phantom crash/reset erased everything?

Should I factory reset it? It's a Verizon variant using cricket. Would the unlock code still work that I got. Can i salvage my texts and contacts?

Not able to play music through USB on car stereo?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 08:33 PM PST

Whenever I try to connect my Galaxy s8 to my car stereo and play music through a USB (stock cable), it will continually connect and then almost immediately disconnect in a never ending cycle. I have USB debugging turned on, and I have tried setting it to all the different modes, none work. During this on/off cycle of connecting then disconnecting, no music plays whatsoever even when it says it connects briefly, and it looks as though it switches between the MTP and audio settings under USB debugging in concurrence with the phone being read or not by the stereo.

    Any solutions to this?

    S7 vs A5

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 09:56 PM PST

So I'm going to get my boyfriend a new phone as a gift for his bday which is soon and I don't know whether to get him the A5 or the S7 because he likes both phones... he's verrrry picky right now and won't even consider a S8, but he had a S5 a while back and wants to try another Samsung. he had a nexus 5x before which had the type c cable which he liked. Now he has a nexus 6 because he loved the nexus series. I was considering the pixel 2 because it is a google phone but he isn't very fond of them. Any advice or intel would be very much appreciated!!!!! He needs to upgrade but he doesn't have the money to upgrade his phone right now so I'm really in a tough spot trying to figure this out lol (sorry if this post is everywhere!!)

I found a device from high school that I got to work, just want to access some of the files, however, I also want to update the device, does anyone know how to? I can't seem to update it from the tablet itself and when I connect to android file transfer (I have a MAC) it says no device found.

Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro Question - what is the best way to preserve battery?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 03:13 PM PST

The specifications says the battery has 3000mAh - what type of battery is this? Is it a Lithium Ion one??

I read an article that said to do this: "First, some background: most smartphones have either a lithium-ion battery or a lithium-polymer battery. Both are actually lithium-ion though, and as such, do not have a 'memory', which means you can charge them from any level – you don't have to fully discharge them before charging them up – and you don't have to charge them all the way to 100 percent.

In fact, these types of batteries suffer from low voltage problems, so it's actually better to partially charge them (say, from 20 percent to 90 percent) than to fully charge and fully drain them."

^ I'm not sure whether to follow this advice and whether my Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro has a lithium ion battery.

ANY ADVICE AND HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED.

    Thanks in advance.

Display and USB port broken. Can I auto copy items to an SD card with no user interaction on the phone?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 08:59 PM PST

Hi all, my friend has a Samsung Galaxy J7 that was recently hit by a plow and now the LCD, touch digitizer, and USB port no longer work. The phone still powers on and receives messages/phone calls but I obviously can't interact with it at all or see anything.

Is there a way to install an app or program on an SD card that would automatically scan and copy items from the device storage when it is inserted? Or install an app from the play store on my PC that would copy items without any user interaction on the phone. I'm looking to copy photos and such to the SD card.

    Other details:

-The usb port shows no detection when plugged into a wall outlet or a PC

-None of the water sensors were tripped (although that doesn't mean anything water didn't get elsewhere).

-The power button seems to be the only working button.

-vibrate still works so I know messages/calls are received.

I realize this may be outside the realm of what can be accomplished, but it's worth a shot. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro. Is it best to download apps to the phone or SD card?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:56 PM PST

The internal storage is 32GB and I'm planning on getting a 64GB SD card. Is it best to store the apps to the internal storage or the SD card?

Also the photos and music, where should I store that?

Does the Honor 7X (US Model) support Bands 2/4/12 on T-Mobile?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:15 PM PST

I recently bought a Windows phone, and after the insane disappointment I returned it and now have $200 to blow on an Android phone. The Honor 7X seems fantastic, like, incredibly so. My only question is the title - does it support bands 2, 4, and 12? I've searched around and have found conflicting answers, some saying that it only supports basic LTE, others saying it supports all T-Mobile bands. Thanks c:

Google Photos with the built-in Gallery on Samsung S8 (x-post /r/GalaxyS8)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 02:02 PM PST

I'm helping my friend set up her new S8 (you know how it goes, I'm a software developer so I'm automatic tech support for everyone I know). I'm an iOS user however, so I don't really know how everything works.

We were moving all her stuff from her old iPhone to her S8, which I just used Google Drive for. Now on her new S8 I set up Google Photos so that she can access her old photos and all her new photos from the camera are backed up and are also accessible from her iPad.

This works so far, however, today she came to me with a problem: there's no way to access the photos from Google Photos in 3rd party apps. For example, if you try to share a picture in Facebook Messenger, it only shows the ones from the Gallery app!

I tried to find a setting to either put all the photos from Google Photos into the gallery app or to add the Google Photos folder to the gallery. No luck there but maybe I'm just blind. I also tried to uninstall/deactivate the Gallery or set Google Photos as the default app (which I'm always hearing is one of the selling points of Android - the ability to set default apps for things - so it must be possible somehow, right?) but none of those seem possible either.

So how do I do this? Or is this an issue with the Facebook apps? Thanks!

how to do things to a noname android tablet?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 11:57 AM PST

I bought a cheapy china tablet of dx years ago, its very similar to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzAlffaUS6k its spot on for ports included and how it looks, but the ram and storage is lower on mine, so it may use a different cpu as well

I can boot into a recovery mode which displays

SDK: MID-A13-Android4.2-V1.0-20130121 Android system recovery <3e> Volume up/down to move highlight: enter button to select. reboot system now apply updates from ADB wipe data/factory reset wipe cache partition apply update from external storage apply update from cache

I want to root the device, to run debiankit, or run a debian based distro directly on it, is there a way to do this? I only have access to a linux laptop to do things off the device, I see a lot of the tools are for windows

I dont really care if I brick the tablet, as I bought it, used it like twice, then forgot about it

but would rather not brick it lol, I might be able to get $5 for it as is, but would be worth a lot more than $5 to me if I could run some of my terminal applications on it

    Question about frequency bands

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 01:11 PM PST

Hi, I'm going to buy a phone soon but I just want to ask a question. If, for example, my carrier supported the band's 1,3 and 20, ( 3 and 20 for 4g and 1 for 3g) , but my phone only supports 1 and 3, will the phone not be able to make calls and texts and receive data because it's needs all the bands, will the phone be able to call and text and recieve data but the network won't be as good or will the phone be normal when it comes to calling, texting and recieving data?

    Thanks in advance 🙏 Ahmad

( BTW the phone in talking about is the Mi 6)

Sister got an S8+ for Christmas, worked perfectly fine until this morning

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 11:34 AM PST

She was charging it over night, and the device locked itself up somehow. Charging doesn't initiate a sound or buzz, and I followed all the steps from this article without luck. https://www.google.com/amp/s/thedroidguy.com/2017/05/samsung-galaxy-s8-shows-black-screen-death-troubleshooting-guide-1072353/amp

The only thing showing any life is a green led indicator

My guess right now (and I'm no expert) is that the battery overcharged. Is this fixable by my sister or I, or should we return the device and get a new one from Costco while we have a grace period

iPhone user switching to Android: any tips when buying a used phone?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2017 06:53 PM PST

    Hi all!

I finally decided to give Android a new chance and I'll certainly like it this time around. My only concern is that I'll be buying a used phone, so there's a chance it's a scam or it is blacklisted or something. So how can I prepare or what should I do with the phone in hands when meeting with the seller? I'm planning on getting either a S8, a Pixel 2 (non XL) or a OnePlus 5T, if that helps.

    Cheers!
