My PC was was hacked and now I am out $1,564.95. please help. Posted: 28 Nov 2017 10:43 AM PST I was at my sisters house eating dinner with my family when I looked at my phone and saw 3 push messages; A PayPal payment to OPSkins for $1030.18, a payment to G2A for $534.77 and my Steam Guard sending me a message so I could log into my steam account. I logged onto my email and saw that I had 4 Amazon orders. One for $99.98, then one for $49.99, another for $49.99, and the last one which didn't go through because I didn't have enough money in my checking account. I called paypal first and filed a claim on the 2 charges saying that I didn't make the purchases. Next I called Chase and said I didn't make those purchases. Then I contacted Amazon and told them what happened. Amazon was able to cancel them right away because they were for Playstation Network cards and they had not been used yet. Here comes the part that freaked me out... PayPal rejected my claim because "nothing was out of order". The purchases came from my IP address, on my AT&T internet, and they said everything matched up as if I had been sitting on my home PC and placed the orders. I went onto OPSkins.com (to which I had been banned because I filed the claim through PayPal first) I disputed the ban and told them what happened. They told me it was through my IP address so I was full of it. I was also banned on G2A, but I couldn't find a way to contact them. All of these orders were purchased on my accounts. They logged into my PayPal, my Amazon, my G2A, and my OPSkins accounts. It only stopped them when Steam Guard came up (when I am assuming they tried to trade the skins they bought on my account to another one). I have a surveillance camera in my home, no one was here. Could this have been done through hacking into my network/PC? Something else that I found out: $1000 was added to my OPskins account, then an additional $500 was added to my account from G2A pay. So there was a total of ~$1500 in my OPSkins account. I asked OPSkins what the last purchases made on my account were and they told me "Sticker | Martha". 2 of them. One was sold to me for $999.80, and the other was sold to me for $499.90. The item "Sticker | Martha" is $0.48 on the steam marketplace right now. So I am assuming that the person who got into my account was the same person who was selling these items. I contacted OPSkins and asked them what information they could give me of the person who was selling those 2 items. I have been waiting for a reply ever since. I doubt they will do anything about it, but I really hope that I can get some information to report to the authorities. TL;DR - Someone hacked into my Amazon, Paypal, OPSkins, and G2A and now I am out $1564.95. Plz halp. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Nov 2017 12:46 AM PST I've been experiencing some WiFi problems recently. I've a second hand router Netgear Wireless n150 DGN1000 which stops working by no reason but only with the WiFi. If I connect a laptop or a desktop with a wired, it works. I don't know so much about WiFi configuration so I did a factory reset once but it didn't work. The only way I've to "fix" the problem it's turn off and on the router. I've been thinking on getting a new one because I read some bad comments and reviews about this router. Any suggestions or new router recommendation? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 can't connect to this network - is it possible to get a better diagnosis? Posted: 29 Nov 2017 03:47 AM PST Hello, I can't connect to my wifi anymore. I was away for a week or so, before I left it worked, now it doesn't. I haven't updated anything that I know of. I have a TP-Link Archer T9E wireless card. I can't really try to connect to other networks as it is not a laptop. The only thing I can do is setting my phone as hotspot, and this works. I've tried disable/reenabling the wireless card, forgetting the network, restarting the router, and reinstalling the card's driver. None of this worked. I've seen several people with similar problems, I've tried everything I could find, switching on and off some card option, nothing worked. Is there a way to get a better diagnosis? Like why it can't connect to the network, at which phase it fails, or something? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Why Can't I Go To Dailymotion.com? Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:57 AM PST For a little while now, I've been unable to go to dailymotion.com. When I try, it's just a white screen with "error" in the top right corner. When I go to a direct link to a dailymotion video, it does actually give me a 404, but that's it. It's been this way for months. This is only on this computer. No other computers in my house, including ones connected to the same router, have this issue. I've run many virus scanners many times. I don't have this problem with any other websites. I don't have any firewall blocking it or any program like PeerBlock running. I've tried going to it with both Chrome and Firefox, same problem with both. What's my next step? If I was banned from it for some reason (which, like, why would I be? I don't even have an account there) it wouldn't let any computers on it, right? Like an IP ban? My friends and I like to use Dailymotion to watch videos on CyTube. It's not like, SUPER annoying, but it'd be cool to have this fixed. EDIT: Almost forgot the video. Here is the weirdness in action. [link] [comments] |
AX370 Gaming 5 + Corsair Plat. Dominator Problem Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:52 AM PST AX370 Gaming 5 + Corsair Plat. Dominator problem Hi there, I hope you guys can give me a help.
I've (almost) completed my new build, which consists of:
But I'm having issues everytime I turn on the PC. The first boot - without any BIOS configuration - works as intended, even allowing me to activate XMP and booting as usual with the correct speeds.
If I turn down the computer and turn it on again, I'll get stuck when loading the OS, where the computer dies and the Mobo lights up the CPU LED.
If I try to enter BIOS when in this state, I get an memory error (Motherboard DEBUG: 0d).
The only way to fix this is resetting the CMOS and reconfiguring the BIOS, where the first boot works again normally.
What could be happening? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
SQL VSS Writer upgraded to 2012 and causing server to go completely brain-dead? Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:37 AM PST So one of our SBS2011 servers out in production has had a SolarWinds/IASO Backup & Recovery running flawlessly for months. Last week, a company who run clocking in software installed their software and SQL Server 2012 Express and since then all hell broke loose. In a nutshell, the server would go brain-dead for 10-30 minutes. Explorer would freeze, No network, no CPU, no disk, no logs, no nothing. Still accessible via vSphere console and any already running tasks like task manager would still "update" but not do anything that required loading/processing power. Once the server came back to life the only kind of log that was anyway indicative of anything being wrong was an spsearch/spfarm permissions VSS Warning - but a quick Google gave me a Microsoft article basically telling me it was nothing to worry about. Cut to the fix - the company uninstalled their software AND SQL Express 2012, however the SQL Server VSS Writer has been left permanently upgraded. The issue ceased the moment I stopped & disabled the SQL VSS Writer service. vssadmin list writers shows no errors - SQL isn't even included within the backup. The issue seems to happen when the backup service was starting it's scan of changes. It's almost like the kind of freeze you get sometimes within VMWare when you do a quiesced snapshot. As I said, no errors, no detailed logs... even the log files within the backup software have a massive gap while the server goes brain dead. Anyone else ever come across anything like this? Obviously my customer is happy it's resolved but I really want to know what on earth is going on. Cheers [link] [comments] |

PC not getting any power for the first 10 minutes Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:31 AM PST Hi there, i recently built a new PC for myself with the following hardware parts:
So in generell everthing works just fine. Building a PC is kinda part of my job so i'm very confident that i didn't make any big mistakes in building it. I didn't encounter any shutdowns or errors or high temperatures in the first week of using. There is just the one following problem: Everytime, when i shut the pc down for a longer period of time like when i'm at work or sleeping, it doesn't get any power when i try to start it from cold again. For like 10 minutes nothing happens when i press the power button, no fan activity, nothing. Like it's not connected to the power at all. After roughly a set amount of time (didn't actually time it but its always around the same) it just works. Also i noticed that the time gets reset, its always around 00:30 when i start it. I'm not sure if the bios itself actually resets but it kinda looks like it. But as i said when it runs it runs. Also i can restart him as much as i want. It needs to be shut down a longer time for this to occure. What i tried until now:
So the whole thing screams "Power Supply" and the reset screams "Mainboard" but before i start changing that stuff or even buying something new i wanted to ask if anybody ever experienced stuff like that or has another idea what it could be. It just seems so random because in generell it works when it works. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Installing the SCOWL dictionary in ASPELL Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:28 AM PST Google has been no help so I figured I'd try here. Scrivener's latent dictionary is pathetic. It doesn't have excusal in it. I didn't know how to spell excusal until I searched google. I'm finding myself hitting the dictionary look up 10 times a night while I write. I want to install SCOWL at the 70 or 80 level and get some peace, but as god is my witness I have no idea how to do that. The .zip directory is full of different README files, but they're all exactly the same. If I can just figure out what files to put and where inside the Aspell directory I can trouble shoot it from there, but there's well over 1,000 files in this .zip Please help me [link] [comments] |

Computer keeps pressing 'esc' and messes with some other keys- NOT A KEYBOARD ISSUE Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:05 AM PST Hi, if anyone had any ideas here, it'd be greatly appreciated. My computer (a desktop machine) has taken at random to pressing the escape button over and over, which also messes with the control key. Before you ask about my keyboard, keep in mind one thing: this happens even when I don't have a keyboard plugged in. It seems to happen more around when I've been playing games than not- is it a fucked up driver, an overheating problem, etc? [link] [comments] |
After recent Windows 10 update, things keep coming up full screen instead of last size Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:03 AM PST I noticed this with photos and movies. Today, Edge has started behaving that way. I prefer for things to start at the previous size instead of full screen. A quick Google search finds people with the opposite problem where they want full screen. Is there a fix for this? I have snap turned off. [link] [comments] |
The Facebook Ghost: My Facebook messages keep changing after I send them Posted: 28 Nov 2017 05:15 PM PST This is a weird one (writing this on behalf of my friend). This has happened on 3 different occasions. My friend has been chatting on Facebook with friends (on Chrome on her Macbook). She'll write a message, and then when she presses send, a completely different message will appear. Ghost Message 1 The first time it happened, she wrote:
But what displayed was:
(actual screenshots: What she saw, What her friend saw. About 3 minutes later, her message changed back to the original, longer version, that she actually wrote. She never saw the altered message again. Things I noted about this message - it's kinda like a bad AI bot's attempt at summarising what she wrote? Maybe? Ghost Message 2 About a month later, it happened again. This time, she was messaging her friend on her phone, and her friend's messages were totally normal. Then, she went onto her laptop (again, in Chrome), and noticed that the messages that her friend had sent - which she had just read - suddenly seemed a little off. Strange grammar. But she didn't think much of it. This was a different friend to the 1st ghost message.
That is also what her friend saw. Yet when she pressed send, she actually saw this message instead:
Once again, this was up for about 1min and then it changed to her original message. She doesn't remember if she refreshed the window or if it just changed by itself. Interesting part about this message: It used some of her original text content, but when she had a strange grammatical error ("and I also remembering Googling it"), the ghost message changed that to ", and I also remembered it" - it attempted to fix her grammar, and also added a comma. "Going back to the end of my life" has 0 results in Google (and is actually a kinda cool quote, which is now ironically attributed to her). Ghost Message 3 This one just happened today. She was talking to the same girl as Ghost Message 1, and the FRIEND'S message changed (so potentially similar to what happened at the beginning of ghost message 2). (ignore the fact that her friend was being super bitchy in these messages) Her friend wrote these messages:
On my friend's phone, they looked like the above. Yet on her computer, they looked like this:
Once again, after about a minute they returned to their original version. Lots of subtle changes in these messages, and again they seem like attempted summaries of the actual messages. Things I've thought of already: Initially thought it may be some weird Chrome extension changing her text. Weird that it only ever happens in Facebook, as far as she can tell anyway. I got her to show me the extensions she had installed - it's literally just Adblock, Adblock Plus (I dunno why they're both there), Adblock for Youtube, Docs, Google Docs Offline, and Pinterest Save Button. Nothing too weird there. I asked if she could try a different browser the next time it happens to see if the ghost messages appear there, but she hasn't had an opportunity yet. The fact that in her phone on messenger the messages are normal, even when they're borked on her computer (same account and wifi network) might say something. I don't know. Any ideas about what's going on here? I can't think of anything beyond that there's an actual ghost living in her laptop, trying to spook her in very innocuous ways. [link] [comments] |

Intermittent high ping (with Asus RT-N66U and RT-AC68U) Posted: 29 Nov 2017 01:43 AM PST I had this problem with my RT-N66. First of all I bought a new wireless card for my Dell XPS 13 9343, as the stock one is said to be a bit, well, rubbish. Sadly that made no difference, so I decided to buy an AC68U to replace the N66U that I've had for years. Still no difference. If I leave a cmd window open on my laptop with ping 8.8.8.8 -t running I can see that when things are good, I get 20ms. When they occasionally go bad, it spikes all over the place, up to 3000ms. Here's the weird thing; if I open up the Asus router and go to system tools and do a ping of 8.8.8.8 in there, suddenly the ping on my laptop drops back down to 20ms. The ping on the router is ALWAYS 20ms. Rebooting the router appears to make no difference to my problems. Nor does rebooting my laptop. The natural assumption is that I have some interference causing problems in the house, but I've no idea what it would be. We live in a detached house and there's no other wifi around to worry about. I sit maybe 4-5m from the router. I choose to use the 2.4GHz channel for better range (large house), and have actually disabled the 5GHz one for simplicity (got bored of visitors asking which wifi they should connect to). What other items in my house might be trying to use the 2.4GHz channel? We have a wireless thermostat (nothing fancy, a Sunvic TLX-1010). I've tried to find out what frequency that uses but can't find any information related to it. Could it be that simple? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Nov 2017 01:26 AM PST It sounds kinda strange, but this is definitely the case. I booted up Battlefield 1 yesterday (and today as well) and I got around 23 FPS with the same settings that I usually always get around 70 FPS with. I don't think it's the GPU/ CPU. Temperatures are normal (GPU is around 65°C and CPU around 60°C). The issue is pretty much always gone after rebooting; however, right now I disappeared after restarting BF1 several times. I think it may be the RAM. Now, I always have a lot of tabs open in Chrome. Since I have 16 GB (@ 3200 MHz) I don't think it should be necessary but I still always close Chrome before running newer games (like BF1) to make sure enough memory is available to them. After restarting BF1 twice and the issue still persisting I booted up Chrome and looked up as to what it could be. Anyhow, didn't find a lot of useful information so I exited it, started BF1 again and now I was getting my usual 70 FPS. So that leads me to believe it's the RAM but I don't understand why. Chrome is not showing up in the task manager, and before starting BF1 it shows that the RAM usage is currently at 25%, so I should still have 12 GB left. The size of the page file is 16 GB so that should not be the problem either. Could it be a memory leak? (Though I am not sure whether allocated memory shows up as freed after closing the application that allocated it) Also, this problem is present in Call of Duty: WWII as well until I restart the game once or twice. Other games (that are not as demanding) work fine. [link] [comments] |
*lost* two HDDs at the same time?(non-raid) Suspect PSU issue; need feedback. Posted: 29 Nov 2017 01:24 AM PST At some point today I lost two data storage drives, one had movies, the other videogames I seldom play. I was watching a movie that was on one of them, then the movie failed, but I didn't think much of it, since my PLEX player is always buggy. I didn't look into it for a number of hours since I was busy, but when I did check into it I noticed I lost a second HDD at the same time... which is odd since they have nothing to do with eachother so to speak. Diaignotistics: Started swaping sata cables around, no effect. I then felt the HDDs to see if they were atleast spinning, I couldn't sense it, but my other 2 HHDs were spinning. The two lost HDDs share the same power cable from my PSU I then traded Power cables from the two working HDDs to one of the lost drives, went to BIOS and THERE IT WAS! Sooo... there is hope for the lost drives... BUT I am unsure what I should be wary of now. My thoughts at the moment are: Please advise and let me know what you think might be the issue. Found an extremely annoying Windows 10 glitch Posted: 29 Nov 2017 01:23 AM PST I was installing Windows 10 on a laptop for a client and when I was presented with the Windows environment I was unable to edit start menu tiles or make any settings changes to the start menu as they would simply not take effect or they would revert back as soon as I attempted to pin something else to the menu. I tried all of the windows troubleshooters I could find and nothing would identify that there was an issue with the start menu. Tonight, I was setting up windows 10 for a different client on a brand new laptop out of the box and the same damn thing happened. And I realized that both times I skipped setting up the internet connection during the setup process. Has anyone else run into this issue and come up with a fix? I can't find anything on Google about it. So far the only thing I have come up with to "fix" it is to create a new user on the computer or completely reinstall windows 10, neither of which are very convenient in most circumstances.
