Google thinks I'm in a different country. Should I be concerned? And how do I fix this? Posted: 26 Nov 2017 07:10 PM PST In the past couple days, I've noticed two things that have me concerned.
I've tried to change Google's region settings. They said "Current Location", but just to be on the safe side I switched them to the US. However, it still redirects me to .cl. I've checked my IP address, and its location is where I expect it to be in the US. I've also run a Malwarebytes scan just to be on the safe side, and it didn't find anything. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? How can I fix this? It's a little disconcerting. Thanks a bunch! [link] [comments] |
How to see my motherboard model? Msinfo32 just says "Base Board" Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:07 AM PST On windows 10 Home. I cant figure out how to identify which motherboard I have, and Msinfo32, cmd -> systeminfo and dxdiag all seem to not give any usefull information. It just says that the Board Name is "Base Board" as if it cant figure it out - how can I fix this? [link] [comments] |
Changing Mobo and CPU without losing games Posted: 27 Nov 2017 12:27 AM PST Hi, I don't know if this is the right section, but oh well. I'm doing a big upgrade to my pc soon, changing the motherboard, CPU, ram, and getting a m.2 SSD to store windows on. The thing is, is that I have 500gb or more of games I'd rather not reinstall on my existing HDD. Please if there is anyway to do this, let me know, if not I'll just go through the pain! Desktop/Keyboard Shortcut for Windows 10 Nightlight (On/Off)? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 03:09 AM PST Is it possible to either create a shortcut that I can put on the task bar or bind to a keyboard key in order to enable/disable the nightlight setting in Windows? I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find anything. I have the action center disabled because the only reason I have been opening it is to turn on and off the nightlight. Hoping for a more efficient method! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
My Internet keep crashing and I get high Ping spikes (1000+) in games. Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:10 AM PST Hello! I'm using WiFi hotspot from my phone and sharing Internet to my PC, I'm using one of those Wireless USB devices, exactly this one: https://www.prisma.fi/fi/prisma/asus-usb-n10-nano-usb-wlan-sovitin I got it 6 months ago and it has been working perfectly before, but recently my Internet goes down for some reason, but its still connected to my WiFi hotspot and it does not fix by itself. Funny thing is, that I DON'T have to "restart" my WiFi hotspot from my phone; I just have to disconnect and reconnect again from my PC and my Internet is working again. Same thing happens when I play videogames (like H1Z1): my Ping goes up to 1000-3000 and it does not fix itself, I have to go to my desktop and do the same as above; disconnect and reconnect then I go back to game and my Internet is working again and I have normal Ping, ~60ms. What would cause the problem? Does those Wireless USB devices have short life span? Is my drivers wonked? Is it my phone's fault? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Nov 2017 09:45 AM PST My speedtest: https://i.imgur.com/bNJDjO8.png Been having this issue for a while now. It feels like my internet connection to YouTube is just completely destroyed even though everything else is running 100% fine. I've tested incognito (thinking it might be Chrome plugins) and then also tested additional browsers (Firefox + IE). Everything has the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas? Edit, examples of YouTube stats: When it runs well: https://i.imgur.com/zJJzyNq.png When it runs like ass: https://i.imgur.com/h76cE6K.png [link] [comments] |
Very weird problem with one PC Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:09 AM PST Here in my office we don't have an IT guy, but as I used to work as an IT at a previous job so I took on the mantle. We have 2 identical PC-s. I have one and collegue has the other. Since the beginning his PC is having strange issues. From freezing to date and time issues. One day I took his PC and exchanged his SSD and HDD with mine and I took his case with rest of components, and he took mine. I had no issues but his remained. I blamed the corrupt OS install and did a fresh install as in format everything and start from ground up. Yesterday he calls me over and his date is again all screwed up and file explorer lags. Date and time is set to automatic and when we turn it on and off it updates to correct time. BIOS time is set to correct date. Only thing that is left are SSD and HDD. Crystal disk info shows all their values in green. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks in advance and sorry for bad english [link] [comments] |
High(99%) CPU-usage whilst DOWNLOADING from STEAM. Posted: 27 Nov 2017 01:59 AM PST Hi! My cpu spikes to 99% as soon as I start downloading something from Steam. Regular downloads from chrome work fine. SSD usage remains at about 25%. What is this issue and how do I solve it??? I have been trying to takle this for a long while and I would be very happy if any one of you knows what to do! Steam support cited a possible issue with "ntdll.dll" and told me to contact microsoft support, who were clueless. Thank you for all responses!! Xbox one s eject button not working Posted: 26 Nov 2017 08:10 PM PST I recently sent my Xbox in to Microsoft to get the disk drive fixed and was disappointed to find that when I got it back, while the disk drive was fixed, the eject button now was broken. This has forced me to manually eject disks by sticking a paper clip in the side. Is there anything I can do to fix this without having to send it back to Microsoft? [link] [comments] |
Unable to connect via ethernet. Posted: 26 Nov 2017 08:56 PM PST Hello, a few weeks ago I noticed that I was not longer able to connect to my modem via an Ethernet. There was seemingly nothing wrong, just that my ethernet port no longer seemed active. I thought that my MOBO was just failing, no big deal I was planning on a new build at the time and just completed the build today. Same issue. I have been able to utilize a USB Wifi adapter for the time being, but would like to have a physical connection for the long term. I tried contacting my ISP to see if we could run some diagnostics on the modem to see if that was the issue, but it seems to be normal. Any tips on where to go from here? [link] [comments] |
Do i need to install this cards drivers via disc Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:15 AM PST First time pc builder here. Wondering if the power colour red dragon rx 580 8gb drivers can be installed without the disc it came with as I do not have a disc drive. I am using windows 10. [link] [comments] |
Win10 PC not detecting if the headphones have been removed upon waking Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:13 AM PST I have a laptop running Windows 10 with the Conexant Smartaudio HD sound driver. I haven't installed the creators update yet since it slowed down my computer and ruined the sound quality when I tried it previously. The problem I have is that if my computer enters hibernation mode with a pair of headphones connected and I remove the headphones while it's asleep, then it won't detect that the headphones have been removed upon waking up, rendering it completely mute. The only way I have managed to restore sound is by either connecting and disconnecting the headphones again or by restarting the computer. Does anyone know either how to make it detect that the headphones have been removed upon waking up or how to force the laptop to switch to its built-in speakers? [link] [comments] |
Problem with my HDD not being "detected" startup Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:08 AM PST So i've had this problem for quite a while now but kinda lived with it but i'm starting to get really tired of it. Every morning i start up my computer it stays on the blue windows logo for quite a bit longer then usual, then it continues to start up as usual but none of the programs that should start up that i have on my HDD (D:) for example Wallpaper engine actually start up. Then like usual i check my windows explorer and as expected it's only showing my SSD (C:), Then i need to keep restarting my computer for an average of about 1-2 hours and then if i'm lucky on a random startup my Wallpaper engine and etc, opens and i check my windows explorer and indeed the HDD (D:) is there. I have no clue whats causing this i have taking the hard drive out and used a compresser to clean everything and reconnected it again didn't do anything, i have checked if it might be corrupted it's not, it's not making weird noises or anything, and when it does work it just keeps working perfectly fine the entire day untill i shut off my pc in the evening and try to start it up again in the morning. I'm using Windows 10 Home, my HDD is a Seagate 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB [link] [comments] |
How to use Wake-On-Lan with ASUS B150M-A? (Windows 10 Home, Team Viewer) Posted: 27 Nov 2017 04:01 AM PST I am trying to set up Team Viewer on my PC for turning it on remotely but cant get it to work. I set up Team Viewer to use Wake-On-Lan through a public address, and found my PC's public address through bluehost.com/ip. Then I enabled "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", "Allow this device to wake up the computer" and "Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer" in my Network Adapter's settings. Pic. The PC is exlusively connected to the internet with an ethernet cable. It's still not working tho - when I open teamviewer on another PC (connected to same router) and press the "Wake Up" button, the PC I'm trying to set up, doesn't turn on. I cant find any setting in my bios resembling "enable wlan", is it supported on the ASUS B150M-A motherboard? Are there other things that need to be set up? I dont have admin rights on my network, but when inquireing about opening ports for setting up a server my sysadmin told me that "The first IP is configured so that everything is routed to it if you have a server. So give your server the address 192.168.1.1 and it should work". Maybe it's not working because the magic packet isn't allowed my routers firewall? Can I set my public IP to x.x.x.1 to circumvent this? Cheers Edit: I'm not entirely sure which flair to give the post, feel free to suggest a change [link] [comments] |
Xbox 360 controller doesn't work on my computer? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 03:39 AM PST I have windows 10, and I got an xbox360 controller from my friend so I could play this one game I got. But the problem is - the controller doesn't want to work. The computer recognizes it, it's a console controller (so not the one that is specifically for computer). The lights around the logo are blinking all the time. I really want to make this work somehow, or else I'll feel like I wasted 60 euros on a game that I can't play cause the keyboard/mouse controls are awful. EDIT: I've tried plugging my WIRED controller in different USB ports, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the controller driver. [link] [comments] |
Which would improve my laptop's performance more, adding more RAM or installing an SSD? Posted: 26 Nov 2017 11:47 PM PST I currently have an HP notebook running Windows 10. It says it has 4GB or RAM and an AMD A6 7310 APU with AMD Radeon r4 graphics, 2000 MHz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s). I really have no idea what all of that means. ST500LT012 1DG142 is something too, I'm not sure what it is though. I just want my laptop to run faster, would installing more RAM or an SSD be a better option? I read through Google that some laptops aren't able to be upgraded, based on the above info am I even able to upgrade my computer? [link] [comments] |
Can I test my server side script using windows rdp (3389) port? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 03:30 AM PST Hey everyone - I'm developing an application to see what I want to achieve is possible. My server side script needs to use a TCP port to send information to the main client. We have a dev server that we use for processing media but opening ports is a long process that needs to be done by the network guys. I want to test my thesis before I start getting other people involved. My question is can I use the RDP port (3389) on the dev server to test my application? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Nov 2017 03:22 AM PST Hi r/techsupport, Love you guys. Mkay so here's the deal: I'm in Tokyo with a paid home connection to some hyperspeed optical fibre (Hikari FLETS I think? Terminology is... confusing here). Basically the connection speed is "up to" 1000 down and close to that up--practically speaking, it's usually between 400-600 down on speedtest.net--but that's neither here nor there--the point is, it should be damn fast. And it was, until ~48hrs ago. I'm on Win10 64x, and usually I have my (gaming) PC wired directly to the provided modem (NTT GE-ONU). Usually, when I start my computer I have to manually tell it to connect to the internet by clicking on the networks button at the bottom right of the screen, selecting the appropriate network (this opens the network settings window) and then clicking connect. The connection appears under the dial-up tab/heading, and connects using a provided username and password from my ISP. Despite making no (known) changes to the computer beyond perhaps unRARing a game or two and juggling them into appropriate folders, this usual connection option now fails to connect, returning error 720: connection to remote computer could not be established, you may need to change your network settings. I'm finding existing support pages difficult to find online, partially due to language barrier, and my ISP does NOT offer English language customer support. I had a Japanese speaker call them on my behalf and they insist the issue is on my end, not theirs. To recap: Password is correct, username is correct. DNS was flushed, IP was released/renewed, VPN was uninstalled, proxy and VPN settings have been reset to default, and I have tried alternate DNS server settings (OpenDNS). I have looked for malware and at registry repair, eliminated anything suspicious, and pared down my network adapter list via uninstalling offending programs (TUNNGLE, etc). Traffic does seem to go on in the background; packets are sent and received, and I can access the FLETS "setup" page which is initially the only website available prior to completing the setup. I want to use a connection that is directly wired to the modem. I have a router; when I connect the router, it does connect me successfully to the internet (automatically; I do not have to manually connect from the dial-up menu). But there are several problems; first, the connection is EXTREMELY spotty, far more than it ever has been in the past. Pages constantly timeout, fail to connect, and load times are unbearably slow. Not 1000mbps down but----> 15sec page loadtime then a timeout. Refresh and it loads after another 15 seconds. That kind of thing. Nothing intensive here--we're talking google.com. So, between that and the fact that this router has 10/100 switches which cap my speeds at 100mbps I really don't want to use it, preferring instead to resolve the issue and return to my wonderful wired-to-modem days. Help? Whatever information would be helpful to you, I will provide it. I'm computer savvy in some areas, but networking is a mystery to me. Thank you for reading. EDIT: Wired connection is from modem NTT GE-ONU to a ROG Hero Maximus IX ethernet port. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:45 AM PST So I've been having doubts about upgrading to the latest version of iOS, but finally decided on doing it, only to face major trouble right from the get go. It now requires two step verification for your Apple ID if you created it on iOS 10.3 or above, problem with the number verification is that I couldn't find my country within the calling code list so I can't verify it, therefore my ID is blocked and I can't access anything. Anyone has an idea about anything that might help me out? [link] [comments] |
Avast deleted a trojan called JS:Cryptonight. Do I have to worry about anything? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:40 AM PST Basically, should I contact my bank about this and change my passwords? Also, can I be sure that it isn't lurking around anymore even if Avast and MWB don't detect anything? Should I just reinstall a time machine backup? I'm sorry for this hysteric array of questions but I'm worried (especially because the malware removal guide suggests that I should be). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:36 AM PST Hello. I recently got a replacement hdd from seagate. I noticed the spinning noise was not constant, it was spinning fast and then slow over and over again. I also heard this noise recently from it on the video. Does anyone know the problem, and what should I do? Posted: 27 Nov 2017 02:23 AM PST imma tryna chroma key a particular image but cant tell which colours i cant use, i can see a bit of red green and blue so i cant use any of the additive colours which means i cant chroma key, i was looking online to find a program that could tell me the percentage of rgb values. specifically only red green and blue as the ones i found online tell me specific hex codes... i wanted to pick a colour that is the least used in my picture, for example, if blue only made up 13% of all the colour pixels in the image then i'd use that. so i ask you peeps, can you help me find something that can tell me the overall RGB percentages of an image?
