Do you miss anything from older Windows versions? Posted: 11 Jun 2022 08:55 PM PDT Hello guys, Windows 11 user here and I'm not very impressed because is mostly like a reskinned Windows 10 with a few improvements here and there but also a few things got worse. I'm wondering if you still miss anything from older Windows versions. Here is what I miss the most: Fast jumplists and other shell menus such notification area (i don't know the exact name) and calendar etc. Don't know about Win 8 but on Win 7 were nearly instant. Since Win 10 have become super laggy. For more info: https://github.com/microsoft/Windows-Dev-Performance/issues/37 Fast search, both in Start Menu and especially in Explorer. Until early versions of Win 10 was acceptable, now you click the search textbox in Explorer and it takes like 1-2 secs to get focused. Fast ALT-TAB. Before Win 11, ALT-TAB was instant but now it takes almost a second or sometimes more to appear! Windowed ALT-TAB. AFAIK we will get back this feature in the upcoming release. [Win 11] Searching for files in Windows Explorer does not return any results Posted: 12 Jun 2022 03:31 AM PDT Since a few days, searching for files on network drives from Windows Explorer does not return any results. It doesn't matter if wildcards (*, ? etc.) are specified or not, no match is found. Even if the files are not system files. The search does work, however, for local drives. I solved the problem by going to "options" of File Explorer, "folders option", check the box "Do not use index when searching system files in folders". Difference between Ubuntu on Windows and Ubuntu in Microsoft Store Posted: 12 Jun 2022 02:42 AM PDT Hello everyone,is there a difference between 'Ubuntu on Windows' and 'Ubuntu' in Microsoft Store?I have Windows 10 and I've installed WSL2 according to Microsoft Docs (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install) and it install 'Ubuntu on Windows'. The link from Ubuntu website points to the 'Ubuntu' app in the Microsoft Store (https://ubuntu.com/wsl), but the link from wiki.ubuntu (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WSL#Ubuntu_on_WSL) points to the 'Ubuntu on Windows' version. My current version of Ubuntu 20.04.4 and I still haven't got upgrade to 22.04. and the app in the store hasn't been updated since 03/22. What is the recommended version to use? Posted: 11 Jun 2022 03:09 PM PDT As more people buy M1 macs or learn about Linux windows loses market share and now Apple has shown interest in gaming and Linux has many native games which leaves no place for windows, if Linux gets more popular it will get more support and people will have no reason to use windows as its slower and more bloated than Linux, eventually manufacturers will start installing Linux on to their computers instead of windows.
