Dark Rock Pro 4 VS Noctua DH15 Posted: 02 May 2022 11:21 AM PDT Hi y'all, based off my last post I decided to make the switch to a better CPU cooler for my Ryzen 9 5900x. Originally I was intending to get the Noctua DH15, but I'm not sure if it's tall enough to give my ram clearance (Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB, 4 sticks) or if it'll fit in my case if I need to adjust (Lancool 2 Mesh). Does anybody have a similar setup to me, and if so, which would be more ideal given my CPU and size limits? The Dh15s is an option too, if it is sufficient enough for cooling. Thanks! Rookie needs help building pc. Posted: 02 May 2022 09:01 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy myself a pc (the parts) in about a month or 2. I'm wondering if this combination is alright because I'm not really an expert on this matter. Is there anything I could do to improve the price-quality ratio? https://be.pcpartpicker.com/list/Ff7Cd9 Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Moving a computer protected by Windows Bitlocker Posted: 02 May 2022 11:56 AM PDT Hello! My company has provided me with a computer protected by Bitlocker and advised I do not move or disassemble it. Long story short... I plan on disassembling and moving it to a different location. I know, I know... Will the Bitlocker be triggered if I take the computer apart the computer (e..g temporarily remove the graphics card to move it more easily) and then assemble it back? Thanks guys <3 [link] [comments]
No change in (normal) GPU temps after reapplying Thermal Paste Posted: 02 May 2022 11:45 AM PDT Earlier this morning I reapplied the thermal paste on my GPU: A Gigabyte Nvidia 970 3x Wind force with Artic MX-4 thermal paste. Ran multiple before and after 3D mark benchmarks and was really only a degree lower in difference (56 C was the max). Gamed for a few hours on it too and was probably 1-3 degrees lower in the game I used for testing (Elden Ring). Should I reapply the paste, or do you think thats as good as it's gonna get? Before temps obviously weren't bad, but the reason I reapplied it was because someone was throwing it out with a computer case and it being a 5+ year old card I figured the paste was probably due for a change, but with these basically nonexistent changes in temps I'm wondering if I could do better. Edit: I want to clarify better why I changed it out despite already having normal temps. I quite literally found it in the trash so I had zero knowledge of its history so I wasn't sure if it was lightly used for gaming or heavily used for mining. I know thermal paste can last for years but assuming the card still had the stock paste on there I figured it was probably due for a reapplication considering the card launched in 2015. The stock paste was rock hard so it definitely was showing it's age once I got the heat sink off. So there's that on top of probably the paranoia of the fact that my brother recently had his 980ti card fried because of bad temps that just skyrocketed one day while playing a game he plays all the time. So I wanted to try and circumvent that from happening again, at least too soon. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2022 11:40 AM PDT Was recently gifted a PC ( HP Slim desktop 260-p026), this is my first time ever owning a pc. Exactly what do i need to finish setting up my PC? I know I need power cords, a monitor, keyboard and a mouse. But i feel like there's more that i need. Do I buy a HDMI cord? Or is that outdated. Also are PC power cords universal? What kind of monitor will i need that's compatible? Do i need speakers? Thanks ! [link] [comments]
Upgrade Suggestions/Comments (RX 570 to RTX 3070 ti) Posted: 02 May 2022 11:23 AM PDT I built my current PC in 2017 and I'm looking to upgrade. I currently use my pc for mild pc gaming at 1080p (Valorant, Overwatch, Forza, Control, etc.). I don't play many AAA games on it because I have a PS5 and it's clearly more powerful in every way. I also started streaming, mostly console games, but I would also like to stream pc as well in the future. I would also like to get back into Xbox, but I don't want an Xbox Series X to play the few exclusives I'm interested in. As an alternative, I would like for this pc to be able to play AAA games (e.g. Hellblade 2 or Halo) in 1440/60 fps or 4k/60 fps as Xbox titles are also available on pc. The reason I say 60 fps is because I have a 4k 60 hz monitor. I tried playing the new halo on pc and it was terrible at even low 1080p settings. With an upgraded pc, I would like to do the aforementioned gaming, continue recording/streaming consoles, record/stream pc games, edit YouTube videos, and do light photo editing. I would hope another upgrade would last another 5-6 years. I would like any comments on my upgraded build before I start purchasing parts. I built my current build, but I am in no way pc part savvy lol. Sorry for the long post but I appreciate anyone who reads it and leaves comments/suggestions. As far as a budget, any part's price listed in the pcpartpicker is the max I can pay. For example, if the price of the 3070 ti is $750, that's the max I can pay for any GPU. See my current and potential upgraded build below. Thanks again! Current Build: Upgraded Build: [link] [comments]
3080 and GT710 in same system, help! Posted: 02 May 2022 11:18 AM PDT So I've been experimenting with a bunch of different ways to get more than the four monitors that my 3080 will let me get and I figured the best/most stable way to do it would be a second GPU. My motherboard is pretty much fully populated though with only one x1 slot left. First thing I tried was a x1 to x16 riser card with an old 1050 I had in my server. That worked fine with pretty much no problems. I ordered a x1 GT710 to replace that hacky solution and it worked great until I went to export something in Adobe Media Encoder. It was using the GT710 primarily to render which was quadrupling the render time. Tried fixing this in Nvidia Control Panel, but it kept crashing so I updated my driver to try and fix that. Upon driver install and restart, the 710 is now giving me a Code 31 error in device manager and won't display anymore. Now, I know the GT710 is using older drivers than the 3080 so it was a gamble on whether or not this would work at all, so I was surprised when it worked without interference the other day when I first installed it, but now that I've updated the 3080 driver and it isn't working I'm a bit confused. Is there any way I can get these two working together or do I need to buy a more modern card to run the fifth monitor off? And I've already tried USB-HDMI adapters or other solutions, none of them are as stable as I want them to be. TL;DR: Can a 3080 and a GT710 coexist in one PC comfortably and both output to displays? Looking for 24in, ips, 4K , 144 hz monitor … we’re in 2022, this should exist Posted: 02 May 2022 11:00 AM PDT Many will say 4K is useless in 24in but now that the GPUs are getting stronger, I want to be able to play in 4K…. Reason for 24in' is to play video games. 27in is okay but ideally I want a 24in [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2022 10:52 AM PDT I am selecting components for my pc. I made a pc which has 12400f paired with a rtx 3060. I am tight on budget so I can't add a cooler going with stock. I also made a pc with r5 5600x with exact same components and to my surprise it was only around rs1000 or 13 dollars. I looked up benchmarks and i5 dose beat r5 in many games and work loads but 5600x's more consistent performance across the board and more clock speed can come handy. Also the stock cooler would be also better than intels. Is it worth getting 5600x instead of 12400f. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Edit- here are the components. Building a PC, looking for critique Posted: 02 May 2022 10:18 AM PDT Build Help/Ready:Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Replace this text with your answer. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. 1440p @ 144hz gaming. Apex, Elden Ring, Doom Eternal, Red Dead 2, monster hunter What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? ~$2300 In what country are you purchasing your parts? United States of America *Post a draft of your potential build here *. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/t9Kh3y Provide any additional details you wish below. I will be buying the graphics card and the power supply form a local shop and will actually cost $1169 and $129 respectively. I am looking to go overkill for what my needs are so I can "future proof" for games.

Actually building a PC this time... I think. Advice welcomed! Posted: 02 May 2022 10:07 AM PDT My wife is telling to "just do it", so I think I just may. Please let me know what you think of the build and if there's anything overkill or terrible value for what I'm getting. I was teetering with going DDR5 but this build should give me a great 5+ years until I'm making better money for a new build. My old pc (5 years old) is not nearly as equipped and is starting to get slow with noticeable frame drops while gaming. Can someone also please comment on the fractal design cooler + Z690 compatibility. It says I may need a mounting adapter... is this true? I also have all my peripherals already - steel case mouse/keyboard and a nice ASUS VG34V monitor that I'd like to take better advantage of! https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VsdBjZ Edit: Do you think a sound card is necessary or will this MOBO suffice? Ryzen 5900X on Gigabyte B450I Aorus Pro WiFi? Posted: 02 May 2022 09:27 AM PDT I have a Ryzen 3600X on a Gigabyte B450I Aorus Pro WiFi. I'm very content playing mostly single player RPGs at 60 FPS, but I've been doing a fair bit more video editing on the side for my church and was considering upgrading my CPU. Could my little motherboard handle a Ryzen 5900X? I have a TT Core V1 with a 200mm front intake fan and a downdraft Be Quiet Shadow Rock LP cooler. So there is a decent amount of airflow around my VRMs. What do y'all think? [link] [comments] |
