I remastered the classic and aero cursors from Windows!

    Cover Photo

Follow the readme instructions at https://github.com/oxou/windows-modern-cursors on how to download and install it!

Note: The spinning hourglass in the classic will soon be finished!

Each cursor was remade entirely in Microsoft Paint which took about 6 days (approx. 90 hours total) of my life!

These cursors are pixel perfect and fully anti-aliased!

    Hope you enjoy!

    lightweight clipping software?

    Posted: 05 May 2022 01:06 PM PDT

Basically I'm not trying to get cool MLG clips or anything but in the game I am playing there are a lot of hackers and recently they have gotten the power to somehow ban your account. The general advice rn is to get clipping software (so if you get banned you can appeal) but I do not have the strongest PC so what is good lightweight clipping software? (pressing a button to save the last like 15seconds to 1 minute or something like that)

    Windows bluetooth management

    Posted: 05 May 2022 01:56 AM PDT

! This is not a tech support !

i use for my work several device including windows 7, 10 tablets; androids phone; iphone; macbook.

One thing i noticed is that on every device but windows 10 tablets the bluetooth pairing and connections are always instant and works extremely well; Even on the windows 7 tablet.

Yet when i switch to windows 10 or windows 11 device, bluetooth always have issue: it's slow to pair, sometimes it loops "connect/disconnect" cycle during a dozen minutes, etc.

Even on the very same laptop ! with windows 7 it just works, with windows 10 it always have problem.

It seems to be a wide issue : https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+10+bluetooth+reddit yet still problematic.

What change did microsoft made after windows 7 to bluetooth management that makes it the only operating system constantly bad today ? I heard about the introduction of BLE and BTLE on windows 10 but it's also something that other operating system use and have no issue..

It can't also be hardware issue, these pairing issue are also common on my microsoft surface go and previous surface pro.

Does someone know what is wrong with bluetooth on windows ?

Hello everyone. I have been wondering which one of these has the best battery life. I don't care about speed or benchmarks, I'm only interested in the battery life here. If you know anything about this, feel free to comment.

Can "Safe Mode" in Windows be ruined by some programs installed in Windows that still start with Safe Mode and shouldn't?

    Posted: 04 May 2022 04:25 PM PDT

I once had my computer not starting, I started in Safe Mode and it was ruined by Open-Shell (changes start button icon among other things), the start button was changed by it and not responding, I just pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del and chose Restart, and my computer worked, but should I uninstall Open-Shell for the case that I would need Safe Mode in the future so I don't have to format my SSD? what other programs should I uninstall too plz?

Where are Windows UI elements (buttons) located?

    Posted: 04 May 2022 05:43 AM PDT

Hi, some UI elements have constantly changed between different Windows versions. Namely, the Maximize, Minimize, Close buttons have changed several times from NT4 all the way to W10/11.

If Explorer is the Graphic Shell, which libraries or elements are used by Windows to define those UI elements? Can you run a previous UI (e.g. Vista) on top of a modern OS (e.g. W10)?

For example, In *nix OSs you can replace the UI (Gnome/Motif/KDE/etc), but the underlying OS is the same. In earlier OS X versions you could run NextStep UI

Swap for WiFi to LAN whilst downloading windows 11 update

    Posted: 04 May 2022 08:53 AM PDT

So I joined the Insider Program to update my pc to Windows 11, I see the Windows 11 Insider Preview update, it downloads through WiFi, it was too slow, I made a fatal mistake that I plugged in the LAN cable whilst its downloading 6% of the 11's update because I wasn't patient, and it showed the error code 0x80070003, I wad panic at that moment, so I straight up restarted and I turned it back on, the splash screen's rolling circle rolled for a bit, and it froze, I force turned off the PC, and now Im here, looking for help from you guys, anyways, I hope that I will be able to find some helpful information from you guys! *More specific information in the comment section if anyone asks for it.

Why doesn't Windows scroll smoothly like a tablet or smartphone?

    Posted: 03 May 2022 08:19 PM PDT

There are programs that can accomplish it, so it is definitely possible. I am not going to pay for them though. Especially since the one I found is subscription based. It is absolutely bizarre to me that windows has no option to scroll smoothly. Even when pressing the mouse wheel to achieve the desired result (again it is possible), the sensitivity is too high and the range is too small to accurately scroll! It is completely mind boggling. Even if that was fixed I am still not going to press to click the mouse wheel on every page. It windows ever going to be fixed? How can we enable it?

PSA: It's possible to use Bluetooth headphones in a sane manner in windows using a USB dongle

    Posted: 03 May 2022 11:03 PM PDT

Bluetooth audio was never very good on Windows. I mean, it has issues on every device, but it is possible to make use of some low-cost bluetooth headphones in a way that is less frustrating.

The way to do it is to buy a USB-to-bluetooth hardware-level dongle, which appears as a USB-headset device as far as Windows (or Mac, or Linux, or even Android, anything that supports USB audio) is concerned therefore bypasses the OS Audio Stack.

This has the following additional advantages:

    - Not Dealing with Pairing in the O.S.

    - better support for using Left/Right Equalizers like peace equalizer, if you always plug it to the same USB port

    - Decent latency with aptX (probably better than using the software stack, likely good enough for gaming)

    - Excellent Latency with aptx-LL headphones

    - Ability to use a HQ wired microphone and leave the headphones in High quality stereo mode during a conference call.

    - Most likely better range, especially with the use of a USB Extension Cable

    - Support for AptX-HD in some cases.

    Disadvantages:

    - It has no sleep mode, so it stays connected all day and drains your headphone battery

    - You have to carry a dongle with you. most of the good ones are not compact.

    - Volume Control and pause/play with the headphone buttons sometimes doesn't work as expected

    - potentially no a/y sync compensation since the O.S. doesn't "know" it's using Bluetooth, so It can't delay your video. This is will likely most problematic using SBC codec headphones.

If your computer is connected to a TV, turning off gaming mode is your best bet to try and add latency and have it match aptX. AptX-LL will work best with gaming mode.

    - I have not had much success getting 2-headphones to work simultaneously (clicking sounds), but this is likely not the case for all headphones.

The product I have used the most is this: (actually, I had an older version)

    https://avantree.com/audikast-plus-bluetooth-5.0-transmitter-for-tv

It has the advantage of using USB, where's most products use 3.5mm (lower quality double-conversion) or toslink/optical (most computers don't have toslink output anymore)

I am not paid to say this, you could easily buy any other product on aliexpress , most of them use toslink though and use USB only for power. For example
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002400758393.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.152f186enxxOFg&ad_pvid=202205032259551521021830886110008534054_2&s=p

The avantree Leaf and the Creative Labs W2 I was not impressed with. Bad range, confusing pairing.
