    Adhesive Magnet Strips Behind Laptop

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 01:23 PM PDT

I understand a strong enough magnet can damaged laptop & erase hard drive. I have three adhesive magnet strips underneath my laptop so it can stick onto my maintenance cart. Is that strong enough to damage or should I be ok?

    Laptop covers for stickers

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 04:36 PM PDT

I saw this on a video somewhere but can't find it, where there are these transparent warp covers you can put over your laptop and take on and off regularly. Someone used it to have different sets of stickers they would put on their laptop for cosmetics at a single time. They would simply put their stickers on their laptop how anyone normally would, peel off the wrap for later use, and use a new wrap to put different stickers on. What is this product called and where can I find/buy it. Thanks!

How can I get the full 144hz performance out of my laptop?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 04:23 PM PDT

I currently own an Asus TUF gaming F15 with a GeForce RTX 3050 along with integrated intel GPU's running on intel i5-11400H CPU. This laptop is meant to be capable of running at 144hz as stated on the website page for it, but it will only allow the refresh rate to be set to 59.977hz in the display settings. I'm not very familiar with computers so I'm unsure how to max out my refresh rate. How can I accomplish this?

Asus ZenBook (Q4071) for $550 or Asus ROG (GA401Q) for $700?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 03:43 PM PDT

So as the title says, which one should I buy? Is the price difference worth the upgrade to the ROG? Both are very lightly used. I will use for general browsing maybe try the Xbox gamepass gaming.

Do you use touchscreen on your laptop? Is it useful or useless?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 10:08 AM PDT

Hi fellow redditors with laptops with touchscreen display,

I am choosing new laptop right now and my friend told me that touch screen is the best thing so I should get one with it. But many other friends said the exact opposite – That it's useless and they didn't use it like ever.

What do you think about it? Is touchscreen great feature, or it's not that important because you almost don't use that?

    Much thanks for your opinions!

    ASUS F5M - still usable

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 11:30 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I would like to ask for some advice - during some cleaning I found my old Asus laptop. To my suprise he still works:

    The specs ( Asus F5M):
    Turion x2 TL-58

    Geforce 6100 Go

    1,5GB DDR2

    60GB HDD

The laptop came with Windows Vista 32bit

I was thinking of giving it to someone who just would like it to use for web-browsing (news) and maybe skype. Increasing the amount of ram would definitely help, maybe Win 7 (I don't see drivers for it on the Asus website).

My main question is it still possible to have some use of it or it's just not worth it?

Can I replace my keyboard with one made for another machine?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 10:24 AM PDT

I've been using a Dell Latitude 3380 since last June, and, aside from the keyboard, I've been very happy with it. The issue is, the keyboard seems to be crap. I've had to replace it twice, because blocks of keys (n, m, h, j, y, u) will stop working. Is there any way I can use a keyboard made for a different machine? I'm fairly comfortable working with electronics, and I don't mind making some alterations to the case (it's second hand and the warranty has long since expired). I'd just like to know if the connectors tend to vary, or if they're standardized across models and manufacturers.

    usb c hub charging question

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 09:38 AM PDT

I plan on getting the Asus Vivobook 14 Pro OLED, which has a circular charging port, but I was wondering if I could also charge it through its usb c port. I want run all my external devices (monitor, keyboard, mouse) through a usb hub through which I'd also charge my laptop, so when I get home I can connect everything and charge with one cable. Would the laptop's usb c port and a hub have charging capabilities or would I have to use one plug each for charging and the hub?

Laptop 'over' heats (heats more than usual but not too much) when I DON'T use it.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 08:23 AM PDT

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3i w/ i7-10th and a 1650 and whenever I use it, it cruises anywhere between like 50-65'C and it only hits 65 when I'm really using it like exporting videos or gaming. I have it slightly raised so it is definitely getting air and for dust, the laptop is only 3 months old and no visible dirt is seen. Whenever I keep it idle for a longish period of time (15min +) or even keep it in sleep mode for the same amount of time, the fans increase their speed and their noise is 2-3x more and the temperature easily hits 70. It all goes back down once I start using it again and the heat doesn't look like its coming from the GPU as the task manager usually shows it to be 50-60C.

I have yet to test this out but I think that this only happens when any software is actively running and doesn't happen if I keep it to sleep right after I restart it.

I haven't enabled any software for startup. Only 1 task is running in the background which is the GPU. There is the windows Anti Malware service which uses a lot of RAM. I haven't installed many softwares so far.

Looking to sell my gaming laptop for a PC. How much should I sell it for?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 07:16 AM PDT

Specs below. I bought the laptop when I was just getting into PC gaming, now I'd rather have a PC that I can upgrade and run higher graphics on.

    ASUS FX502VM-AS73 base

    15.6" 1920x1080 FHD Screen

    Intel 7th Gen i7-770HQ 2.8GHz 4 core

    16GB ram

    GeForce GTX 1060

    2x 512 GB SSD's

Additionally where would be the best place to sell it?

    Thanks!!

Looking for thin and light recommendations

    Posted: 29 Apr 2022 06:56 AM PDT

Last year I replaced my desk top replacement laptop with a desktop and when I needed to go anywhere for work or visiting family or whatever, I had my Chromebook. Since then, however, support ended for that model, so it won't update and I can't use Slack on it.

So I'm looking for ideas for a thin and light laptop for traveling. I'm willing to get another Chromebook, but I've come around to the idea of having some local storage. My budget is $500-$600, but I'd like to save some money and get something refurbished (I saw a 2015 Macbook Air on Newegg for $150, but I've heard some iffy things about that site lately).

    Thanks!
