laptop recommendations from people who understand laptops? Posted: 30 Mar 2022 02:53 AM PDT Hi, I am currently looking for a new laptop/notebook. What are some general things I should be looking for? It would be generally used for work stuff, but I am also considering it for some light gaming. I would love some recommendations from people who actually get that kind of stuff and know the differences! (preferably something under 800€) Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments]

Lightweight, cheap laptop for coding? Posted: 30 Mar 2022 01:54 AM PDT I am looking for a cheap and easy to carry laptop, which will mainly be used with MS Visual Studio Code, PyCharm and probably will run on Linux, i sometimes have to spend the night outside of my own home so i need a lightweight laptop that i can carry with myself during these nights and be able to continue my coding studies with it, i don't do any system heavy stuff, mainly simple network coding with Python and some simple game development or generation coding with C# Unity, and some problem solving on both. I normally have a workstation desktop at home which have windows and virtual kali linux but obviously i cant carry it with me at night so i am looking for a relatively cheap laptop that can just run VS Code and Pycharm and occasionally play some youtube videos. Everything i looked up online is way too pricey or way too overkill, somehow the shittier the laptop is the more pricier it is, so i am asking for help here [link] [comments]

Weird techniques at a repair centre? Posted: 30 Mar 2022 04:02 AM PDT Yesterday I spilled around 100 ml. of coffee on my ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 M3500QC. I immediately turned it off and placed it in such way that the keyboard was facing the floor. On the morning after (today) I took it to the authorized repair centre within the city I live in. However, what surprised me was that the assistant there just turned it on without taking into account that this may cause a failure (I read that it is not suggested to turn the laptop on before having the hardware parts cleaned and being a 100% certain that everything is dry). I'm now confused and puzzled as to why they did it, highly doubting their proficiency. Anyway, the laptop instantly turned on, it seemed to be fine and working, but I left it there for cleaning and additional check-ups. I wonder whether I have made a mistake... [link] [comments]
Dell Precision 5510 constant flea power problems Posted: 30 Mar 2022 03:05 AM PDT I have a Dell Precision 5510 from 2016 specced for CAD work (i7, Quaddro graphics etc), and it's really causing me trouble. The battery died at som point, I replaced it for a non-original which led to flea power issues. I've then bought a pricy original 84 Wh battery, but the problems keep coming back. Sometimes the pc won't boot, and suddenly it works. When the pc is left on and going in to sleep mode, I sometimes can't wake it up again. Shutting down the pc is almost always troublesome, since it will just power on again by itself. Sometimes I can make it start by draining flea power, but other times I have to disconnect the internal battery first, which is really annoying. I can hear a small noise (not the fans) when it won't turn on, so there's definitely something running inside of it. The pc is not new by any means, but when it works it's a really good machine. The battery is new, the M2 hdd is new.. I'm not ready to throw it out. I suppose the motherboard could have hardware issues, but how to troubleshoot? How do I get rid of flea power for good? Posted: 29 Mar 2022 09:02 PM PDT Hello all, I have an old hard-drive that I kept after my son destroyed the screen on my old laptop. I ended up just removing the hard-drive and DVD player and discarded the rest. I was wondering if anyone would know where I could get some type of hard-drive reader compatible with this one? Graphics Drivers don't work properly after I swapped out my CPU Posted: 29 Mar 2022 07:14 PM PDT You heard me right, I upgraded the CPU in my laptop. It's a pretty old laptop which still allowed for those kind of things. I swapped it from an i5 3rd gen to an i7 3rd gen (was super cheap so I thought why not try) and both were factory options for this laptop and both have Intel HD 4000 intergrated graphics. The i7 works perfectly fine except I get flickering pixels on most apps and flickering polygons in games. This to me looked like most definitely a graphics driver issue. I tried re-installing but to no effect. I looked for drivers for this CPU but most give me "your computer doesn't meet the requirements". I also tried the universal Intel Graphics Driver for Windows but that gives me the same result as where I started. Has anyone had this happen to them before? Have I just hit a dead end and this just won't work? If so, why do they give you the option to upgrade the CPU? Could using a dedicated GPU with its own drivers fix the problem? Could it be possible that this CPU just has a faulty graphics adapter? You can call me foolish for even thinking about trying these things but I'm just messing around really and curious enough to give it a go. [link] [comments]
Question about those laptop cooling pads. Posted: 29 Mar 2022 08:45 PM PDT do you guys personally think they help? is it necessary if the laptop is on almost all day? it's an asus f17 17'3 if that matters, any feed back would help:), and if it's worth anyone for any recommendations for one? Best ultrabook / thin laptop available now? Posted: 29 Mar 2022 05:22 PM PDT I'm looking for my next laptop, and I'd like some recommendations that follow these stipulations: - The thinner and lighter, the better - Great battery life is a must - 16:10 or 3:2 aspect ratio is a must, a matte screen would be preferred but not required (do not need a tablet convertable) - 16GB RAM minimum, 32GB Preferred - 256GB SSD minimum - Gaming performance not important, since I'll be using Parsec - Wifi 6E preferred - Some sort of T-Mobile compatible broadband would be great - Under $2000 - Not tied to any name brand I'd prefer something that is already released, but if something is going to be available within the next two months (with a set release date, not a TBD) I'd consider that as well. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Anyone know where I can find good laptop hardware? Posted: 29 Mar 2022 01:01 PM PDT Hello, so last year I bought a low-end laptop (I didn't know much about computers so I bought whatever high rated cheap thing I could find) so I bought a Herobook Pro from a company called CHUWI, and after about 2 months, I realized that it didn't have the specs for what I wanted to do on it. So I searched to see if I could upgrade it but besides the SSD I couldn't do much. So now I'm thinking of replacing the motherboard and the cpu and well I don't know where to search for good and upgradable laptop parts. [link] [comments]
