| How bad is it to open a phishing email with an embedded image on Android Chrome? Posted: 26 Mar 2022 04:16 PM PDT Today, using Android Chrome, I opened an old hotmail/outlook email account which I hadn't touched for a couple of years. Most of the stuff in the inbox seemed legit, except for two obviously malicious emails ("woman asking for sex" kind of thing), which I deleted immediately. However, there was also an email with a cut-off title/subject. The visible part of the title seemed harmless (something about a notification, but the rest was cut-off), so I opened that email. As I did, there was a pop-up (I think it was from the Outlook website, but maybe it was from Chrome) about installing a certificate for Chrome and about something like image.png:468 (I can't remember if the number was 468). I didn't want to install that so I dismissed it (I think) by either clicking outside the pop-up or clicking my phone's "go back button" (can't remember which). The pop-up was gone and the email was a phishing email that pretended to be from Amazon, but was sent from an email from something like "msoffice-office.com". If Outlook hadn't cut-off the title of the email I would have known it was a phishing email (as I don't have an Amazon account) and I would have deleted it instead of opening it. The email looked similar to this one: https://www.hants.gov.uk/-/media/Images/business/tradingstandards/amazon-scam-1.jpg Obviously I didn't click any link or button in the email. As far as I know the email had no attachments - and if it had, I didn't click on them. However, the email had an embedded image (probably that's what the pop-up was about?). The image was Amazon's logo. My question is, am I in trouble? Could the embedded image cause any problems for me? Assuming the image was hosted on the scammer's website, I guess they could find my IP address, but are there other malicious things they can do to me through the embedded image? I already deleted the email and scanned my phone with the free versions of BitDefender, Malwarebytes and Kaspersky. All three found zero problems. Still, I'm a little nervous. [link] [comments] |

| Fail to launch a game (Chrono Trigger) every time... Posted: 26 Mar 2022 04:44 PM PDT So I am not a mobile gamer at all. I gave up on pretty much all of them. But Chrono Trigger is my childhood favorite and I enjoy having it with me at all times. However, recently I started having problems with the app. Every time I launch it it sort of freezes, it stays on black screen, I quit the app and then launch it again, usually it works on the 2nd time and sometimes on the 3rd, 4th...sometimes there is no sound an di just keep trying basically. It's annoying and I would like to know what causes this. I am this close to just going with the emulator but I like the nifty auto-battle that is very handy. My uneducated guess is that it has something to do with Google gaming account, because every time it doesn't launch it also doesn't sign in to the "Google Games" service. Maybe I am wrong. | Where Does "C:\FakePath" Resolve To When Taking Pictures In Android Chrome? Posted: 26 Mar 2022 08:30 AM PDT Pixel 5. When using Chrome, on a website that has the option to upload the image, I have the choice of selecting a file, or using the camera to take a picture. After taking a picture with the camera, the website shows the path of picture to upload as "C:\fakepath\crazylongnumber.jpg" Where exactly is that on my phone? Is that picture that was taken saved anywhere I can access? I can't find it anywhere in any File Manager app. [link] [comments] |

I really should have been more proactive because today it finally started blotting and now it's practically inaccessible. I could have sworn my memos were backed up to my Samsung account but they are not. My new phone was able to pull up all the old memos from BEFORE I had that last phone. So I am missing about 6 months of memos, a few were pretty important to me. I'm wondering what I could do. I can't cast my phone properly because I cannot access the USB debug option. My cracked phone can connect to PC and I can view the directory no problem but I don't know if the memos are available anywhere on it as documents [link] [comments] |
| How to enable/add password to a "USER" account on Android? Posted: 26 Mar 2022 02:56 PM PDT I have an Android tablet and have 1 account attached to it (parent account). I then added 3 "USERS" to the same tablet. By default none of them have any password/security set. And there's no option to edit anything about the user account on the tablet (only have option to delete or 'log in' to that user). How do I add a password for each user? | Insane battery drain on Galaxy S7 Posted: 26 Mar 2022 01:44 PM PDT Today at work, I got a popup message telling me the cpu was being overloaded and the phone needed to be restarted. This phones just a glorified mp3 player since I've upgraded. 5 years ago I uninstalled all unnecessary "system" apps with root, anything I was unsure about was left alone, and has had airplane mode turned on for the entirety of the last 5 years. According to Gsam, samsung faceservice is the culprit, but I have face unlock disabled? Ive seen reference to this service referring to recognizing faces in photos as well, however I've long since disabled that as well. Even with its aging battery and Android 8.0.0, my average battery life is between 3-4 days, since theres only a small handful of apps I've left on the phone. After getting the popup about the cpu overloading, when I tapped restart, I noticed the phone took significantly longer than normal to restart, roughly 2 minutes. Currently while the phone is fast cable charging while turned on, it is draining faster than it is charging, however seems to charge correctly while turned off. I'm wondering if anyone may know if this is a sign of hardware failure, or if somethings cache needs clearing, since all modifications to the software were made years ago and nothings been changed since. | Pixel 1 stuck in bootloader loop. Recovery menu unreachable. How can I erase this phone? Posted: 26 Mar 2022 12:48 PM PDT My Pixel 1 (non-XL) had been showing symptoms of being seriously messed up. Self-rebooting every 30 minutes, overheating problems, you name it. I eventually retired it and used it only as a Google Photos proxy uploader for the unlimited storage. Unfortunately, today, after finishing transferring photos to this Pixel, the phone crashed and now it is stuck in the Bootloader. All options do nothing except restarting the Bootloader, (except for the Barcodes option, which works perfectly), and if try to go into recovery mode I get a "Failed to boot to recovery mode" message. I want to send the phone in for repairs, but I'm not comfortable with sending it with personal photos on the storage. But I can't erase it since I can't access recovery. Is there any way I can erase the phone's contents given its current state? Thank you! Additional details: Phone has the latest official Android 10 update before it reached EOL. I've already power cycled it several times. Let the battery run out and recharged it several times as well. Also, often the bootloader menu comes up all glitchy, but you can still select the options. | Posted: 26 Mar 2022 12:20 PM PDT I have a Samsung A12 model SM-A127F. Android 11 UI version 3.1. I have problems getting notifications when my phone is locked/asleep. I downloaded PNF no root. All my apps that I need notifications on , the battery optimization is off. I have an automatic Wi-Fi app that keeps Wi-Fi on every 5 minutes. I used adb commands to disable deviceidle and it gave me the confirmation that its off. I also factory reset my phone which did nothing. I'm still getting problems with notifications. It's still delayed. When someone calls me on WhatsApp it only shows calling until I turn on my phone then it shows that it's ringing. Can someone please help. I think I tried everything I can. | What is the best way to watch videos taken on an Android mobile on TV? Posted: 26 Mar 2022 11:27 AM PDT I have a samsung phone and I take lot of videos (1080p 60hz). I want to watch them on TV at the best quality. Right now I connect my phone to PC, wait mins for the camera folder to load, copy the video to a usb drive and connect that to TV, then play it using some app. It takes lot of steps. I find this method inconvenient. It is that even a 2 minute video is easily 500 MB in size and it take lot of time to access the camera folder and copy the videos. Its very frustrating. I tried Google photos but the videos are of potato quality. Tried casting too but that is stuttery. I would like to know if there are any better ways and how people are watching their videos. | Eye strain with newer displays. What has changed in the past few years? Posted: 26 Mar 2022 10:41 AM PDT I've been having some serious eye strain that's just started with more recent phone displays and hoping someone might be able to tell me what's going on. I've always had issue with LCD displays as they would make my eyes feel tired. Once I started using AMOLED displays it was amazing, no eye issues what's so ever. I've used the galaxy s2, s3, s5, s6, og pixel and most recently the galaxy a50 and they've all been great. I upgraded to the galaxy s20 and after I few days I noticed my eyes bothering me, I just thought a one off and returned it. Got all hyped for the Pixel 6 and bought one. Within a few days, horrible eye strain. I couldn't even look at the screen for more than a few moments. Tried my wife's galaxy s10, same thing as the pixel. Tried a friend's galaxy s20fe, not as bad but still eye strain. Worst of all I tried a Huawei p30 with the reduced flicker feature turned one and my eye strain was so bad in one day it cause my right eyelid to droop. I've went back to my galaxy a50 and everything is fine.... Besides my eyelid that is still drooped (doctors appointment made). I've done hours and hours of research to see what could possibly be going on. I've read about PWM but I don't think I could be that as it would of bothered me a long time ago. Also the galaxy a50 has one of the lowest frequency at 118. What has changed with modern displays? If I could find a newer phone with the exact same display as the a50, I'd buy two. It's eating up a lot of space and even after I delete it, next few weeks or days even it just reappears. Is this working normally and if so is there a way to limit this? I don't get edge lighting or a pop up notification for Instagram (but my phone vibrates when I get one), but I do for WhatsApp and Snapchat despite the notification preferences being the same across all 3 apps. Furthermore, I don't get pop ups for apps such as Hermes/Evri, which should send a notification when there's an update with my delivery. E-mails also don't give notifications at all, specifically Gmail. I've got my notification preferences set to allow pop up notifications but I get none. Basically when ever someone puts there stuff in storage and not pay there bills then it comes up for auction, and if I win said auction, legally everything inside that unit is mine. Therefore any phones or other electronics are now mine, not stolen!! So I basically have a stack of phone both android and apple that are google FRP locked and iCloud locked. I understand that there is basically no way around icloud locked but with android being pretty lenient on what they allow on there OS I was wondering if it is possible for me to be able to bypass the google FRP and resell these phones. | Can I reduce the frequency of Weather Forecast Notifications? Posted: 26 Mar 2022 09:25 AM PDT I keep getting weather forecast updates every couple of minutes. It's getting quite annoying. Every time I receive this notification, my phone's screen lights up. Every time, I think it's some other more important notification. Like a new message, email, etc. If possible, I don't want to stop receiving weather notifications. I just want to either receive these less frequently (perhaps once or twice a day), or receive them without waking up my phone. I quite like having the persistent notification about the weather.
