Google is working on a public API for apps to use ultra-wideband (UWB) on supported devices Posted: 07 Feb 2022 02:39 PM PST According to a code change, Google is preparing to add a new support library described as a "public API surface for apps to use UWB (ultra-wideband) on supported devices." UWB is a short-range wireless communication technology commonly used for applications that need precise positioning. Several Samsung flagships and Google's Pixel 6 Pro have UWB hardware already. Tile announced back in October that its ultra-wideband tracking tag, the Tile Ultra, will come with UWB support on both iOS and Android. Thus, this news isn't that surprising, but it's good to confirm there will be a public API available to other third-party apps.
