Source is the press release of the Tab S8 series from evleaks' Substack

Mirror - look at footnote 26 on the 4th page

Availability and timing of Android OS upgrades and features may vary by device model and market. Google Translate readies new "Saved Translations" and "Quick Actions" widgets with Material You design

    Posted: 07 Feb 2022 09:30 AM PST

Looks like Google Translate is about to add two widgets.

    • Saved Translations: Revisit saved and recent translations
    • Translate Quick Actions: Quickly translate and transcribe phrases

These widgets are not enabled by default in the version of the app that I installed (2022.01.27.0.04), but I manually enabled them. Here's what they look like.

    Google Play Services battery drain.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2022 09:27 PM PST

I've had 5 or 6 cases of battery drain by GPServices. Each time the cause was different. The latest one was caused by "Speech Services By Google". It was shown as GPServices usage, but i had done every trick i knew to get GPServices working, so i knew it had to be some lowkey app trying to do something constantly.

I rebooted my phone and saw that for a split second a notification for Speech Services popped up. I use 2 languages with my phone and keyboard and switch between them quite regularly. So i rebooted my phone again and tried to tap Cancel on the notification, but then the Cancel button grayed out. I went to the notification history and uninstalled the app and redownloaded it, worked like a charm.

I encourage everyone to make a post when they fix something like this, so that the next one having the problem might see the solution!

How would you like to improve Digital wellbeing on Android?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2022 05:48 AM PST

So if you have used digital wellbeing on Android you know it's kinda useless as it allows you to delete the timers whenever you want. So if Google one fine day decides to ask the community for its overhaul. How would you do it?

Here's my take: 1. So if anyone has used a OnePlus' OxygenOS you probably know that they have this Zen mode which totally block you from all the apps apart from those which are important to you 2. If you have used Cold Turkey on PC you know how good that website/app blocker is. Give us something like that on Android

Sunday Rant/Rage (Feb 06 2022) - Your weekly complaint thread!

    Posted: 06 Feb 2022 04:00 AM PST

This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:

    • Your device.

    • Your carrier.

    • Your device's manufacturer.

    • An app

    • Any other company

    Rules

    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.

    Meet Galaxy S22 Series

Why don't any Android phones have hardware-based face unlock comparable to the iPhone's?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2022 11:07 PM PST

Some Android phones have face unlock, like the Samsung Galaxy S21, but it relies on the front-facing camera rather than face unlock specific hardware like the iPhone has.

As someone who moves between iPhones and Android phones frequently, it's always baffled me why more Android phones don't have decent face unlock.

Why don't any Android phones have face unlock comparable to the iPhone's?

Anyone else is refusing to buy a new phone until graphene batteries become normalized?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2022 07:37 AM PST

I'm still with my xperia xz premium and it's still very stable, doesn't lag or crash, everything works very well.

I don't see the reason to upgrade. The new phones don't have anything useful or interesting to be worth such prices. It's just more power bit by bit and most people don't even use that.

I'm waiting for something revolutionary like the graphene battery.

Maybe you're waiting for something else? Share your thoughts!

What are you all doing with your old phones?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2022 10:38 AM PST

My previous phone is my PC's webcam, video game emulator with 4 Bluetooth controllers that I connect to my TV and I'm trying to use it as a basic travel PC with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. The travel PC project is giving mixed results. Next time I fiddle with it, I think I know the solution though.

I'm looking for other things that I could do, or improvements I can make to my set up. It's been cool tinkering, but I feel like I'm at my limit. I don't have root, and I don't have unlocked bootloader or anything like that. I looked into it, and it's far too complicated for my abilities.
