Main reason to upgrade seems to be less hardware and more software support these days

    Posted: 03 Feb 2022 02:04 AM PST

I got a Samsung S21 with my previous phone being the OnePlus 6, and the reason for the upgrade was it losing security updates.

It's a phone that came out 2018, so going on to be 4 years old. The upgrade seems underwhelming. Not seeing much difference in speed in opening apps when it comes to the ones I use like youtube or the browser. The on screen finger print feels about a second slower and less reliable than the rear finger. Camera is certainly better, but other than that it feels like an incremental upgrade when it comes to overall hardware with some losses like audio jack and a slower finger print sensor.

Now the main area where I'm glad I upgraded is basically updates. Not being blown away is making me think going for a phone that will have updates is the way to go like Apple, so it seems like it'll be a while before some amazing new hardware feature comes out. There are foldable phones, but not jumping on that yet.
