Gaming Laptop for Fan Games and Emulators under $800 Posted: 03 Jan 2022 04:09 AM PST Hi! I'm looking for a decent gaming laptop for doing menial things such as netflix, twitch, youtube, as well as playing fan games and emulators (DS, GBA stuff like that!) Won't be doing hard-core gaming but something decently fast! Refurbished is fine! Appreciate all the help I can get! [link] [comments] |

$600 laptop for WoW & web browsing? Posted: 02 Jan 2022 05:35 PM PST Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please conclude not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $600 Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes if it's manufacturer refurbed, no to 3rd party How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I value performance, build quality, and battery life about equally. I don't want a 2-in-1 or touchscreen of any sort. How important is weight and thinness to you? The thinner the better, but as long as it's not "bulky" I'm good. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I have a gaming PC so this would just be for WoW on the go,web browsing, and maybe Ableton mixing if the machine can handle it. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? WoW - 1080p 60 FPS. I currently play at the "7" setting on my desktop and get anywhere from 90-150 FPS. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? SSD is a must have. I've been hearing AMD CPUs are better value than Intel lately. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. If now is not a good time due to COVID, please just tell me. I can wait longer for laptops to come off of markup pricing. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jan 2022 07:58 AM PST My boss gave me the opportunity to get pretty much whatever laptop I wanted, but I didn't have much time to research it (and didn't know this sub existed). After a marathon research session I selected the Legion 5 Pro w/ the 3060, which is on the way. The 16:10 QHD screen was the main selling point for me because 80% of my workday is spent in spreadsheets and reading documents. The numpad is also a requirement. Though no price limit was set, I did try and stay modest and found the laptop for ~$1400. The physical size of the Legion 5 Pro is not really concerning to me, as I'm coming from a 5 year old 15" Acer E15, which is horizontally larger and basically the same weight as the Legion, so I'm sure I'll be fine with this beast on my lap. However, considering the beastly innards, I was curious as to whether or not the Legion gets uncomfortably hot for a lap even with non-gaming use. Also, I was wondering what people who have the Legion think of the trackpad? Is it at least "pretty good"? I'm not concerned about the placement; my Acer has the same "far left" trackpad and it doesn't bother me at all. Plus the Acer's trackpad is absolute trash, so the Legion will probably feel like a mega upgrade. However, with spreadsheets it would be awesome to have a glass trackpad. If the 16" Zephyrus had a numpad it might have been my first choice. In terms of gaming, I mostly play Diablo 2 Resurrected and Starcraft 2, so my gaming needs aren't huge. However, it would be great to be able to get reasonable performance in games like MSFS 2020 and Satisfactory. So, just to drive myself crazy, are there any alternatives I might want to look into with these options?: -16:10 QHD IPS screen -Glass trackpad -Numpad -As little gamer aesthetic as possible -GPU capable of at least Diablo 2 Resurrected, but MSFS 2020 would be nice (which recommends a GTX 2070). -Say a $2,000 limit Thank you!! Searching for 16' 16:10 laptop Posted: 03 Jan 2022 07:51 AM PST Looking for 16' laptop for 90% productivity and 10% Gaming. Currently split between couple of models and any input would be appreciated. Lenovo thinkbook 16p Gen2 with AMD Ryzen 7 RTX 3060 - for $1500 Lenovo Legion 5 pro AMD Ryzen 7 RTX 3060 - for $1250 Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 i9 RTX 3060 - for $1600 Thinkbooks downside is a 60hz panel, plus legion costs 250$ less so idk Legions downside is that it's too bulky While M16 has lower battery life while being the priciest. There should be differences that I can't see on paper, so I'd really like to know any input you have, or any other laptop suggestions. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jan 2022 07:07 AM PST My work is giving me two options of laptops. The Dell Latitude 9240 14" at $2139 or the Surface 4 13" w/ AMD 4890U. The Surface configuration would be 13.5", Matte Black, AMD 4890U, 16 GB RAM, and 512 SSD that comes in at $1700. Looking at the specs of the two, the Surface looks better so I'm not sure what I'm missing that is driving the cost of the Latitude up almost $500 more. Let me know your thoughts, thanks! Looking for 'perfect' 14" laptop Posted: 02 Jan 2022 08:07 PM PST I am looking for help and recommendations for what I would consider the "perfect 14-in laptop". I'll provide my general guidelines below. I'm super picky, and I've been looking now for 2 months and haven't found what I'm looking for. I'll put some notes about my hardware thoughts and expected workloads below. My current laptops are a 7-year-old 15-in MacBook pro and a four-year-old HP Spectre x360 13t. (I really like the Spectre except the battery life isn't great, the screen resolution is too limiting, and the Kaby Lake processor is starting to feel slow). I thought I'd found what I would like and I bought a Lenovo Yoga 9i (gray with the U4k display) . I returned it after less than 2 days because of two key flaws. First - terrible Wi-Fi performance (1/5 or less compared to my existing laptop in the same location). Second - battery life was very disappointing, which I found surprising based on reviews. For all the things to recommend Lenovo, they just seem to have slightly quirky and wonky design and build quality. The LG Gram 14, and the Samsung Galaxybook Pro 14 each seem very promising, and very close to what I would like in many ways, except the screen resolution of each is a limiting factor (16:9). And of course on top of all of this price is a consideration. I prefer to stick between $900 and $1200. I've seen things that come close to what I want but they're way more expensive. My workloads are generally productivity focused, but I also need to run virtualization environments (think VirtualBox, Docker, etc), so more cores and more memory are important. * Windows 11 (I love Mac laptops but in this case I'm looking for Windows) * Evo platform with 11gen i7 or better... Probably. I would consider high-end Ryzen mobile potentially (I don't know too much about the Ryzen family but I'm willing to be convinced) (do I need to wait for the 12th gen Intel mobile processors and all new models??) * Very quiet operation with little or no fan operation even at load. * can run with the lid closed attached to my 24 inch monitor keyboard and peripherals would be great * 16gb RAM * 512gb or better SSD * Does NOT need to be 2 in 1 convertible. Frankly I don't like these, and I think it adds unnecessary complexity and cost. * Does NOT need to be touchscreen but I could go either way on this point * very bright display with high contrast * Premium build quality, modern design. * Ultrabook or near Ultrabook size. ... Less than 3 lb, or very close * True 14 in. .... 13.3" or 13.5 in I do NOT like. Slim bezel. Taller aspect ratio screen with thoughtful use of the extra deck space for trackpad * 16:10 or 'better', which in this case means taller. I found a couple of good laptops that meet almost everything that I want but they're 16:9, sadly * Excellent Wi-Fi performance. See note above regarding the Yoga * " Large high quality track pad proportional to the screen and centered on the deck, not offset to one side * High quality keyboard with excellent feel and larger keycaps * Durable quality deck lid, keyboard and touchpad materials. There's nothing worse than laptops where these things wear out or wear through. * Color is generally unimportant to me but I don't like gold, red, green. I'm okay with silver black and blue * Backlit keyboard * Good webcam with privacy shutter * Prefer a unit with a fingerprint scanner but this is not an absolute requirement * Power button should be on the top deck and not on any side. This is an absolute requirement. * Power should be through thunderbolt port only not classic power connector * I don't need a ton of ports as I am perfectly capable of using an expansion hub, but having at least one classic USB 3.x port would be very good, in addition to two thunderbolt ports. SD card reader is a bonus but not required. Audio port is irrelevant. HDMI or ethernet port are handy, but again not required. (And nearly impossible to find in laptops as small and slim as I'm hoping for) Does such a thing even exist that fits all of these requirements? Like I said there are LG Gram, Samsung Galaxybook/Pro, and HP Spectre models that come very close but I haven't found anything that meets all of my requirements. I really don't want advice trying to convince me to go with a 13 or 15 in. I definitely do NOT want to go with a 13 in, and I could see myself being possibly convinced for a 15 in if it had a very minimal size design. For instance, the Samsung Galaxybook Pro 15 in is pretty damn good and I would buy it if it didn't have a 1920x1080 resolution - that laptop (so light at 2.8lb) with higher res 16:10 screen would be perfect. Yes • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Very good build quality and keyboard, don't really like the light colored keyboards as the keys are hard to see in some lighting conditions. Not looking for any macs because my because my school doesn't recommend the m1 chips and I also don't want to run into any troubles. I'm currently looking at Hp Pavilion Aero 13 and Acer Swift 3 but I saw an Acer Swift X with 8gb ram and gtx 1650 (I don't have access to the 16gb ram and rtx 3050ti variant) I don't know if that would be alright. Posted: 03 Jan 2022 02:44 AM PST Hi! I'm looking for a laptop for work. Most of the time I'll be using Word, Excel... and editing software (Illustrator and Photoshop). Up until now I have used a HP EliteBook 840 issued at my work (I think they're expensive), and I was very happy with it. It's fast enough for what I want, light-ish and battery was decent when it was new. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Posted: 03 Jan 2022 02:29 AM PST I currently have a refurbished Surface Pro 4 (with 16 GB RAM, Intel i7 6th Gen Processor & 512 GB SSD), but I am literally fed up of it because it has so many issues, such as low battery life (2 hrs at max), continuous noise from it, metal chassis is always hot at touch, starts lagging when I try to open multiple browser tabs when a Zoom meeting is going on or when I try to render any video in DaVinci Resolve 17, etc. The battery of the laptop had swollen up 2 years back and I had a hard time finding any laptop service stores willing to replace the old battery and install a new one in the Surface, because most of them don't even do it due to the screen of Surface devices being glued to the metal chassis, which makes repair very tough. I purchased this laptop since 2018 and I have been regretting every single moment of it. So now, I would like to upgrade to a laptop with none of these issues. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE 1. Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Country of Purchase : Budget in local currency USA : 1,300 USD – 1,900 USD Canada : 1,675 CAD – 2,400 CAD Kuwait : 400 KWD – 575 KWD India : ₹98,000 - ₹141,000 2. Are you open to refurbs/used? NO 3. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance > Battery Life > Form Factor > Build Quality (Sidenote : Need an ultrabook/2-in-1 as I will be carrying it with me throughout the day.) 4. How important is weight and thinness to you? Needs to be light (<1.5 kg) 5. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Min is 13 inches, max is 15 inches. 6. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I will be browsing social media (Reddit, Discord, Instagram, Twitter), attending classes on either Zoom or Teams, do coding (C, C++, Python, Java, Javascript), video editing (DaVinci Resolve 17) and photo editing (Lightroom/GIMP) and watch TV shows & movies on it. 7. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Will do some light gaming, settings and FPS does not matter a lot to me. 8. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Should have a really good backlit keyboard and touchpad, reliable build quality, minimum 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. 9. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. For the first question, I have mentioned 4 countries of purchases because I am open to purchasing my laptop from any one of the 4 countries. The laptop should be able to run 75+ tabs on Chrome with VS Code and Spotify open in the background smoothly. I am an avid Windows user, so recommendations of Windows laptops are preferrable, but I am also open to Macbooks (am ready to try macOS after using Windows for 5+ years), especially Macbook Air M1 (2020 edition). Chromebook with great storage and battery Posted: 02 Jan 2022 06:38 PM PST Im the embodiment of the cliche of a "on the go young professional". After losing my MacBook to airport baggage I'm ready to switch OS. I use google workspace for work all the time so I figure a chrome book would be a good choice. Battery life is number one for me. I'd like over 12hours, storage is also important. I save a lot of documents/photos and I'll probably have a few small to mid size games on it. The other two things I consider are nice display and lightweight. I need to use it in the glaring sun and keep it on my back all day. Gaming wise it just has to be competent I'll be playing older games that won't stretch the machine to its limits. My price range is up to 2000$. Suggestions? [link] [comments] |

I really like the Lenovo Thinkpad T490s that I am currently using provided by my company. I like the keyboard and the fact that this is fast (probably due to my tech company having extreme security measures and preventing virus' but who knows). I think I want a similar/new lenovo thinkpad that is similar to this. [link] [comments] |
Gaming laptop, UK - 17" £2k - £2.5k Posted: 03 Jan 2022 02:02 AM PST My MSI laptop has fallen apart at the hinges, for which reason I'm not very keen on the brand as it seems to still be an issue. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Yes Mainly XPlane and DCS. With much tweaking, I can just about get these to work on my existing GTX1070 so I'm hopeful about an upgrade. Either two SSD slots, or an SSD and hard disk, as flight sims come with a lot of data. Any ideas very welcome! [link] [comments] |

The person selling it is letting it go for $700 (cdn) is this a good price ? It only has 8gigs of ram but that looks simple enough to upgrade. Ill mostly be using it for WoW, watching movies and probably some D2R. [link] [comments] |
