i7 8750h gtx 1060 6gb laptop csgo 120fps Posted: 01 Sep 2018 08:57 AM PDT Bought a gaming laptop msi GP63 8re and it seems to be underperforming. Running csgo at lowest settings and lowest resolution it maxes out at 120fps. Surely it should be much higher than this yet I can't find anything that could be capping it. Have gone into Nvidia control panel made sure it's using the dedicated gpu, have turned off vsync, have made sure battery boost is off but nothing changes it. It stays around 115-120fps never above it. How do I fix this problem has anybody else encountered it. [link] [comments]
Deciding between ASUS S510 and Lenovo Ideapad 720s—please help! Posted: 01 Sep 2018 11:40 AM PDT Hey everyone, I am about to buy a new laptop (I currently have a fading MacBook that I am ready to move on from) and would love your help deciding between these two laptops: Asus Vivobook S510 Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073FRRRXN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6NTIBbA17B405 Specs: intel i7, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD + 1TB, 15.6" Full HD, NVIDIA MX150 2GB, Windows 10, gold, 5-7 hour battery life Cost: $1129 Lenovo Ideapad 720s Link: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaPad-720S-Laptop-Computer/dp/B0765Z4D5Z?keywords=lenovo+ideapad+720s&qid=1535826612&sr=8-1&ref=mp_s_a_1_1 Specs: Intel i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GT940MX 2GB, Windows 10 Home, 720P HD camera, 8 Hours battery life, backlit keyboard, Fingerprint reader, Platinum Cost: $1099 What I want in a laptop: I want to use this laptop primarily for research, which means I'll want to be able to do statistical analyses in R, MATLAB, and some neuroimaging work in FSL. For this reason, having a lot of space (and a decent amount of SSD) is important to me. In addition, I am a casual gamer and would like to be able to do some light gaming on this laptop from time to time (fortnite, rocket league, runescape, etc.). One thing I didn't like about my MacBook is that it wasn't great for games and would heat up all the time. I actually run boot camp on it now too because I don't like the apple OS. My thoughts: both of these computers seem great. The ASUS has way more memory, but it also has a plastic bottom and flexible keyboard; this makes it lighter than the Lenovo but also makes me feel uneasy. In addition, the ASUS has a worse webcam than the Lenovo, which isn't great because I will need to do some videoconferencing for work. Both of them seem to heat up from the reviews I've read, though probably less than my MacBook. It seems unavoidable for a laptop to heat up so I've accepted that as a part of things. Also the Ideapad apparently has a really annoying/loud fan, so there's that. Overall I'm pretty torn, but leaning towards the ASUS since it has more memory and a better GPU. Thanks and let me know if you have any thoughts or considerations to help me decide. Thanks guys :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:01 AM PDT Sorry for the lengthy read but I have to add as much detail as possible. So for awhile my laptop fan would be decently loud, it was until a few days ago where my laptop would randomly turn off. The first time it happened, I thought nothing of it. The second time it happened I knew it was probably overheating and wouldn't turn on. I thought "hm, maybe this socket doesn't work" so I plugged it into a socket across the room and it magically turns on. Now I plug it back to the original socket and it works again. So now i've confirmed the laptop still turns on, I decide to open it up and clean out the fans before using it again. I boot it up, the fans are finally quiet, the laptop doesn't get as hot anymore and it actually seems to run a lot faster and smoother and i'm using it for the rest of the day with no issues. Now the next day comes, the same problem, it doesn't turn on once again. Anybody know the issue? Fried motherboard? I'm not really savvy when it comes to computers. EDIT: Plugging it into the socket across the room and it turns on again. EDIT2: 1 out of the 4 outlets around my room works. Which is odd because 1 has an multi outlet strip and works perfectly fine, the 2nd has my phone charger which works perfectly fine. The last 2 outlets are not in use, 3rd one is where my laptop works, and the unoccupied 4th outlet does not work with my laptop. Note: To keep it simple, my room is a rectangle with 4 outlets respectively occupying each corner EDIT3: Plugged it in other sockets around the house and boots up perfectly, can confirm it's neither my laptop, nor my charger. Must be my room outlets? Not sure since everything else that's plugged in works on every outlet. EDIT4: Found the fix. Simply heading to the breaker panel and resetting the outlets in the room fixed it. Will keep this post up just in case someone comes across a problem similar to this. Thanks to everyone (aka myself) for the help :) [link] [comments]

$2000, USA
I don't care about 2 in 1. I care most about battery life and weight.
Very important.
Windows
15"
Possible light gaming
Maplestory is the only thing I might play.
Decent keyboard, touchscreen
I like to study outside of the house 2-4 hours at a time. Not having to bring a charger is ideal, or at least chargeable via USB c. [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 10:01 AM PDT As the title mentions: I am thinking about undervolting. I bought a brand-spanking new laptop with an i7-8750 and a 1060. I believe it's the new Asus ROG Hero II which peaked my interest. I haven't received it yet, but from what I heard it's quite a good performing and well-cooled laptop. Because I am going to college in a few days (Visual design, gaming on the side) I will be using it for quite some time. It's already quite expensive for me and I wouldn't want to spend a big sum of money again if it breaks down in a year or so. So, I try to get the best out of my laptop. From what I have read, undervolting is quite safe and can improve lifespan, but a buddy of mine mentioned this: " if you undervolt the core it makes the core worker harder to try and keep up with the lesser voltage". I want to note tho that he is a desktop user, but: Is he right? or is he wrong and is it really safe and preferable for laptop life-span durability? Same goes for undervolting a GPU. Chrome or Windows with Celeron Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:52 AM PDT I'm looking for a cheap and lightweight travel laptop so have been looking at celerons. I'm wondering if chromeos work better on a cheap machine since it has less overhead than windows. Also, would battery life be better? I'd be doing presentations in powerpoint and the occasional netflix show mostly. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:44 AM PDT Currently I can only order this through Amazon by importing it to my country for about $320 + $60 shipping. Now that the second model is coming down later this month, should I wait until then for a price drop, or do you think it will stay about the same price and that I should go ahead and buy it right now? How many types of WiFi card slot are there? Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:36 AM PDT I wasn't able to find an answer via google, so I thought I'd ask here. I have no idea what connects my WiFi card to my motherboard, but it's definitely not mPCIE. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:16 AM PDT (All other specs are the same) I'm a tech noob so explanations to answers will be appreciated :) I heard the Intel optane works to obtain similar speeds as an SSD on things like bootup and opening applications which is why I'm wondering which is faster for general work - the Intel optane or the i5 Unfortunately I can't just buy a model with an SSD because for some reason I can't find one with the screen size that I want alongside an 8th gen processor. No video editing, no gaming, nothing intensive. [link] [comments]

Have you seen the new Yoga Book C930? Posted: 01 Sep 2018 03:11 AM PDT Take a look at the new C930 from Lenovo here. I would buy this thing for the tablet+e-ink combo alone. The only complain I have about this device is that the touch screen is crap with the stylus. If only the touch screen was good the stylus like iPad or Surface Pro then this device would be unbeatable. What do you guys think of the new C930? [link] [comments]

Deciding between two acer E15 laptops 1 Posted: 01 Sep 2018 05:46 AM PDT So I'm looking at getting a laptop for my wife and narrowed it down between two laptops. They seem to meet all the needs she has except possibly the screen brightness, but I've seen no better fit for the price. So first I have this one Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wGOIBbKK9SS43 I don't care about graphics, so I see a faster processor and more ram with an SSD Second choice Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i3-8130U, 6GB RAM Memory, 1TB HDD, 8X DVD, E5-576-392H https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079TGL2BZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_xKOIBbFF1RMS7 So less ram and an i3 processor. I'll be adding an ssd if I go this route which adds about $50 onto the price. She uses it for work, mainly web browsing and some light excel work, don't think she does anything else that's very demanding in there. She's been using like an 8 year old laptop so they'll all be much quicker then she's used too. I absolutely can't stand sluggish computers so I'm leaning towards the first choice but I also haven't used a laptop in years except for a few minutes at a time. Is it worth the ~170 more for the first one? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 01:52 AM PDT We are still in the drawing room and R&D phase , but these are rough specs. please share your thoughts Target market: Portable ultra book with best performance in the market for developers and video editors Targeted retail Price: 1799$ Chasis: Under 15"x 10"x 0.65" Weight under 3.5 pounds (1.5kg) The display: 15.6 144hz FHD slim bezel display, but no gsync. or 4k 60hz 100% adobe RGB The CPU: i9-8950HK a 6 core 4.8ghz cpu (2.9ghz base clock) Cooling: a dynamic dual cooling solution will be employed for consistent turbo clocks with room to overclock and more battery life GPU: No dedicated GPU. [we are still on edge with MX150 gpu for CUDA, most likely not gonna happen ] TB3 port can be used to for external graphic cards RAM: upto 64gb Hard drives: 2x m.2 PCI express Networking: nothing special here, a dual band wifi, with BT Webcam: a 8MP high quality camera Speakers: most likely side firing speakers loud enough for a room Battery: 4 cell battery ports: 2Xmini DP, 2x TB3, 2x USB 3.1 The reason we choose not to use GPU -portability gpus increases the laptop weight and thickness, and needs bigger power brick -cooling. its technically impossible to cool both a 6 core 4.8 ghz cpu and even an 25w mx150 -battery. Its not possible to fit a 4 cell battery We believe that current market already offers , Medium end cpu and gpu laptops, and we wanna serve a different market segment Gamers can use external gpu, which they can upgrade more frequently if it needs [link] [comments]

Need a gaming laptop that is going to work well for my college work as well. Posted: 31 Aug 2018 07:44 PM PDT One of the biggest things for me is to be able to play games such as OverWatch, but I also want something that is a little more lightweight and portable for school. I am very new to high quality computers, and don't really know what I'm getting into. My budget is somewhere around $1,500. The one I looked at was an Asus VivoBook, but it seem to have overheating issues. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
Should I get Huawei matebook or Surface Laptop? Posted: 01 Sep 2018 04:16 AM PDT Im looking for a new laptop and am looking at the matebook or SL as my options. Anyone have any past experience with these? I heard the huawei has thermal issues, not that im going to use it heavily, just for work, school, casual surfing and watching, and maybe some light producing on fl. Open to other suggestions as well! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 04:15 AM PDT At times while gaming (on games like FFXV and Fortnite) my temperatures can reach to 95+. I have tried to turn the maximum power that my cpu can get to 99% but that makes me lose frames and makes games stutter. Is there any other ways to reduce my temps (I have already propped up my laptop so the bottom vents have more breathing room)? [link] [comments] |
