Posted: 04 Dec 2021 07:26 AM PST New Android user here, coming from iPhone and on that platform, closing apps isn't necessary because iOS has background app refresh settings where you can disable it per app. Does Android have a similar setting? | How do I restore the old swipe-down icons in new Android update? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 07:21 AM PST I reckon I can put up with most changes to the Android interface, but one is driving me nuts: now, the swipe-down icons for turning on/off WiFi, battery saver, night-time mode etc have changed from simple little round icons that can be quickly swiped through to clumsy big icons with visible names, and now I need to swipe down, then down AGAIN, then left or right to access them all. How can I change it back to the old, less cumbersome style? I know what all these icons mean, FFS. When I click the settings cog under the new options, it just takes me to the general settings, rather than the specific one for this function, and I don't know where to look. [link] [comments] |
| Can't receive verification codes on s20 FE Posted: 04 Dec 2021 07:18 AM PST I recently got a new S20 FE on Fido and now can't receive verification codes for Google Pay or Samsung Pay. I have received verification codes from password resets for facebook, hotmail, etc. I'm on Android version 11. Things I've tried: Restarting network and restarting phone Clearing cache from messages Making sure none of the numbers or messages were blocked Try to get the code on wifi and off wifi Making sure I can receive premium messages Message inbox isn't full Put Fido sim card into older phone Pretty much anything I found on Google I've tried. Short of calling the bank or my provider (which most people say does nothing) I'm not sure what else to try. [link] [comments] |

| P20 pro Bluetooth pairing inquiry every 10 seconds Posted: 04 Dec 2021 03:04 AM PST Hey guys, I was going to paair a new device to my huawei p20 pro via Bluetooth. By mistake I've chosen the wrong device which sends me now a pairing inquiry every 10 seconds when BT is enabled. It's not possible to disconnect the device. A restart of the system wasn't helpful either. I won't reset the complete phone. I can't find an setting to disable that my BT is seen by strangers devices. Also I can't find a setting to allow inquiries only by paired devices. Google wasn't pretty helpful. Do you know this issue? I hope everything is clearly enough. Thank you for advice! On my old phone I've enabled google backups and all my apps have saved their data on my google drive . Now I want to import this backup on my new samsung phone but it does not ask my to import my data... Can anyone help me with this? I should be asked after resetting my phone to import a backup from an old phone but I'm not asked. I never see a question about importing my old backups like it's described e.g. here: https://www.androidcentral.com/how-restore-your-apps-and-settings-new-android-phone I don't want to use a samsung service like the smart switch because I don't use samsung services at all - I really want to use the native google backups. I'm stuck on KitKat 4.4.4...aaand the maker is gone, so, no updates or support there. Can anyone give or point to an update guide that won't mess with the existing dual boot? Thanks. | Posted: 03 Dec 2021 10:35 PM PST Firstly: there is now a big obnoxious clock on the front of my phone whenever I open it, and it looks so ugly. Secondly: whenever I swipe up to open my lock screen for some reason it, instead of just having the keypad in front of my wallpaper like it used to, it take me to some shadow realm keypad. Thirdly: whenever I swipe to close tabs it sends them to the shadow realm too and the wallpaper just disappears. Those things I urgently need a change the rest I can sort of live With. My keyboard whenever I type a big bubble of the the letter I just typed and is generally super annoying. Whenever I pull my notification tab down that just looks awful This new system update did nothing for my phone and it makes everything look, feel, and just exist worse If you can give me a hand with any of these issues it'd be greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |

| Keep Google from trying to open links in apps Posted: 03 Dec 2021 07:47 PM PST So my issue may be pretty isolated, but for things like reddit or YouTube I tend to use opera to open, a- because opera has a ln ad blocker plugin, and b- at work I can use it's VPN plugin to access reddit. My issue is that the Google search app constantly tries to open search links in apps, is there a way to turn this off so it defaults to my browser? [link] [comments] |
| Posted: 03 Dec 2021 10:16 PM PST I've just upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the popup dictionary (Collins Dictionary) doesn't work on, for example, news websites I subscribe to. The options on the popup menu are Copy, Share, Select All and Web search, with no 3-dot/dictionary option. It does, however, work on, for example, a Google search results page, with the addition of the Dictionary option under the 3-dot options. This worked fine on my old Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro (Android 9) without my having to change any settings. It has the [DB] Collins Cobuild Advanced Dictionary installed, as does the Ultra, and on Web pages where the popup has the Dictionary option, the Ultra is using the Collins Dictionary. Much of the advice in a Google search is unfortunately out of date and I'm now going nuts! Any help would therefore be much appreciated. TIA. [link] [comments] |

| Videos from iPhone's are not sending correctly to my Android Posted: 03 Dec 2021 04:51 PM PST I'm a new Android user I've been on iOS for the past 5 years and just recently switched to a galaxy S10+ and I need a bit of assistance. I turned off iMessage on my old phone after switching the SIM via wifi and I can receive regular texts from iOS users fine. Ok so my dad sent me a 18 second recording of dash cam footage via his iphone but it just sent me 2 blurry frames of it as well as 18 sec long audio file separate. I saw the message he sent me on his phone and it looks normal and he also texted it to someone else with an Android who said It worked fine, don't know their specs though. Not sure if it matters but I made Google messages my default texting app. I couldn't find anything in my settings that seemed to relate.. any ideas? Thanks, Android noob [link] [comments] |

| Oneplus 8 will randomly vibrates, all the time. Posted: 03 Dec 2021 07:47 PM PST Just got a used Oneplus 8 last week. It was factory reset, updated to 11.0.5, and cache wiped. I'll get random vibrations for it every few minutes, and the game I'm playing will hang for a second, like I'm getting a notification, but I am not. It can move around the screen anywhere and be hidden along the side where the icon goes away and is replaced by a person. Tapping on it and holding it does nothing other than allowing me to move it.
