Acer spin 3 or Lenovo IdeaPad 3 for university? Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:35 AM PST I'll need to use programs such as powerpoint, excel, etc. and I'll probably start to code, so there is that. I think touchscreen will be good for taking notes, but I don't know about disadvantages. Performance and battery life is crucial to me, besides that I don't really mind or know anything about laptops and their features. I'd also hear suggestions in the similar price range. Is a 15.6 inch laptop too big for school or is 14 inch too small? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:25 PM PST I already have my heart set on what laptop I am going to buy, but I need some guidance on what size to get. For starters, the 14" would cost me $650 after upgrades, and the 15.6" would cost $700 and I don't have to do any other upgrades. The 15.6" has 256gigs storage, while the 14" has 512, but storage isn't a concern for me much. I am going to be carrying this laptop around me school for hours a day. Additionally I am going to be using this laptop without an external monitor at home for hours a day on hw/study/movies or tv. The 15.6 model has a number pad which the 14 doesn't, but I never use it on my home desktop anyways. If anyone could help me who has used one or both of these laptop sizes and provide advice on whether I will regret getting 15.6 for lack of portability, or 14 for lack of screen real estate, I would appreciate it. Any suggestions would be appreciated Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:38 PM PST I'm making the switch from pc to laptop, I'm unsure of what specs are good on laptop for gaming. [link] [comments] |
Please suggest a laptop And a docking station for work. US about $400-$600 USD. Thanks Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:36 PM PST Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $400-$600. Can go more, but don't need much. Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Maybe performance, but not looking to game How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important at all. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. No preference Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No CAD, video editing, photo or gaming. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Must have a camera (do they all have one), do not want a chrome book. I would like to get a docking station so I can run two monitors, keyboard and mouse. I found some docking stations on Amazon, but not sure how well they work. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is for work. I will work through their VPN. Will do some excel for reports (not a ton of data though), email and some system access. I am used to having a docking station the laptop sits on, but am happy for any docking station that works. I am guessing I will want an SSD as that really helped my desktop. Thank you for any suggestions [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Dec 2021 03:14 AM PST Got into college a few months back. I am studying mechanical engineering and it turns out that we will be using Solidworks for CAD. I did a bit of research and it turns out that Solidworks prefers lots of RAM and, faster CPU compared to higher number of cores

Gigabyte g5 kc vs Ideapad gaming 3 Posted: 04 Dec 2021 03:14 AM PST Unfortunately these two are the only 3060 laptops available that are in my budget. I want to be able to play singleplayer games at high settings at 60fps with ocassional shooters and some 3d work. I dont really care about battery life but abt 4hrs of normal use (browsing the web) is enough if possible. Specs GIGABYTE G5 KC - I5 - 10500H 16gb ram Rtx 3060 6gb 105w(dynamic boost) 512gb pcie ssd 1920x1080p FHD IPS 144hz screen IDEAPAD GAMING 3 - Amd ryzen 5 - 5600h 8gb ram Rtx 3060 6gb (95w capped i think) 512gb pice ssd 19280x1080p 120hz screen If you guys want to suggest any other laptops, my max budget is 1200usd (even this is a bit coz i live outside USA and theres vat over here) [link] [comments] |

Is it worth it to get a base or cheaper version of the Lenovo Legion 5? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 02:29 PM PST I've heard nothing but good things about this laptop but I'm not able to afford the higher end version most people are referring to in their reviews. I'm looking for something that can handle dozens of tracks for music production and gaming but my gaming doesn't have to be on the highest settings. [link] [comments] |
Need a convertible laptop for gaming Posted: 03 Dec 2021 03:42 PM PST I know this is asking for a lot but I'd be grateful if something In my criteria could be found for me. Also maybe multiple choices if possible. Price range: $100 - $1000usd this is a must Size: Over 14 inches Weight: slim, under 5 pounds Graphics card: not really good with pc's so idk Fps: 60 or higher Storage: any Battery : 7 min 10 max Games I wanna run: rpg maybe with mods like dark souls, kingdom hearts etc, also some shooters and for a general idea most Xbox gamepass games. Need a general purpose laptop 300-500$ Posted: 03 Dec 2021 02:56 PM PST Just for general use, no gaming or video/photo editing. Preferably available on Amazon because I would like to use up some gift cards. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2021 04:57 PM PST What are your thoughts on this laptop? It will primarily be used for internet based university studies and general use. [link] [comments] |
Moderate gaming, mild workload laptop Posted: 03 Dec 2021 10:30 PM PST
If it's worth it, and I mean really worth it, I'm ok with up to about 3,000€ of budget. For that much I would need some sort of reassurance that the performance will stay stellar for at least 3 years, and great for another 3. Ideally I would like to keep it more in the range of 2 grands. Country of purchase: Italy.
Nope.
Performance > build quality > battery life > I didn't even know what ultrabooks or 2-in-1s were until I googled them just now
I eat a pound of spaghetti every day, so not much.
Bigger would be better, but not particularly important.
Some CAD, but they are a multitude of "lower-requirements" work-related softwares of which I don't have the name of. They are software that analyze/do basic editing of 3D models of scanned real-life objects; they are software to "assist in the profession", but they are not the primary tool of my profession (medical field). If anyone's familiar with CAD-CAM in the medical field, things like anayzing and editing TC scans (including the 3D models), designing surgical sleeves -- that's the kind of stuff we're talking about. Photoshop: used at amateur midcore (at best) level. Sony Vegas: rarely used to slice up some videos. No significant special effects. I don't use it much, but when I do I like the rendering to be relatively quick (I'm used to a ratio of about 1:1 to 1:2 of video_length:rendering_time for basic editing at 1080p output).
I'm accustomed to 60Hz and 1080p. I'd like to go up to 60Hz and 1440p (more Hz would be nice, but not needed; not even gonna consider 4k, plain unnecessary for me). I mostly play Final Fantasy XIV, sometimes for many consecutive hours (24+). The most demanding game I'm likely to play is The Witcher 3. Other than that I mostly replay older games, and I can live with 60Hz 1080p for newer ones (they are all gonna be JRPGs/action games, so 60 fps is all I need).
Reliable build quality is quite important, as I want it to last me a long time. I would use an external wired mouse. I've been using an 8.99€ keyboard for 6 years, then bought another identical one that I've been using so far, so I'm guessing any keyboard will do it for me.
A frame of reference of the desktop computer I'm used to, which has been my loyal companion for many years, and to this day still meets all my needs (despite the aging components) with ease. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GH I don't know how much longer I'll have this desktop PC; my laptop might have to take its burden when it will eventually die. For the time being, I'd rather invest into a very good laptop than a good laptop + rebuilding an updated desktop PC. So I'll keep using my desktop PC for as long as it continues to give me the current performance, but the laptop might have to become my primary and only computer. Let me be clear on one thing: I don't want a laptop that can give me a similar/better performance than my desktop PC for five minutes when overclocked to its early death before it overheats and melts down; I want a laptop that can give me a similar/better performance without breaking much of a sweat. I prefer spending money to buy a laptop capable of X, and only using it to its 70-80% potential, rather than saving some money to buy a laptop capable of 0.8X and feel its struggle every time. I just can't see myself "trusting the hardware not to melt" if I start hearing fans going crazy every time I run a game -- I don't mind the noise (not much anyway), I just can't shake the feeling of "I'm burning my laptop if I keep doing this; better stop asap". So I'd end up not using it, if a certain task requires "all of its power" (measured, at least in my mind, by the fans speed), for fear of an early death...and if the computer can do something, but I don't trust it to survive it doing it, then it's as good as if it couldn't do it at all because I'll pull the plug on the program before I feel it's too late. Hope that makes sense, regardless of how founded my concerns are. I don't have a good frame of reference for battery life, but I would like something capable of lasting a solid 4 hours of low-intensity tasks (watching movies, taking notes), and a couple of hours of higher-intensity tasks (the work-related stuff; never gonna play games off-battery). It's unlikely I'll be using the laptop for anything more than low-intensity (and almost certainly never more than moderate-intensity) tasks when off-battery, so if it's one of those that lose performance when off-battery, it's most likely not gonna be an issue for me. It must be Windows OS, for compatibility purposes with work softwares (should help with gaming too). [link] [comments] |
Laptop for college/work that has a good screen Posted: 03 Dec 2021 01:21 PM PST I've been using a Lenovo ideapad for the past few years, but I've noticed the screen is much worse than other laptops and just becomes hard to look at after awhile, I need a new laptop that would mainly be used for Electronic engineering type applications, so a lot of programming and some CAD, but also just for general use like watching movies, light gaming etc. My budget is around €800 and I live in western Europe [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Dec 2021 09:05 PM PST Hello! I have been playing State of Decay 2 pretty much since it came out. I have only been able to play it on my Xbox One S. I really want to start playing with mods and I don't really have the technical skill, nor money to build a PC and I would rather invest in a Laptop because I think a laptop would be more practical for me in the long run. I would really only play SOD2 and then I would mainly use it for my writing, and other internet browsing. So I'm not looking for the best of the best. Something economical and practical, right-out-of-the-box. So I was hoping someone, or a few of you, would be able to give me some insight and guidance to picking out a good laptop. I am open to a laptop that is cheaper that I can put small upgrades into, that doesn't require a ton of skill to putting in a better part. Thank you for taking the time to read and providing me with some information! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:51 PM PST I'm somewhat savvy with pc's but I have literally never purchased a laptop because of early 2000 stigma from part failure and overheat issues. So I have no idea what's a good deal and what brand is a pos. But now I'm doing school work on my night shifts and using my phone is a pain in the ass. Just need something that I can hotspot off my phone and stick a wireless mouse in. Black is preferable because I'm boring. [link] [comments] |
Thinking of returning my Inspiron, what should I look at? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:41 PM PST I recently got a great deal on a new Dell Inspiron 7415 2-in-1 14" and really love it but I'm unsure about the display. The colors just seem off to me. Specs are: 1920x1080 FHD sRGB is 63% Luminescence is 212 nits Shouldn't this be good enough for a casual user? Anyway it just seems off. I love the laptop otherwise - great battery life and a really nice feel to it. I hate to return it but can get a full refund for another few weeks. Between work and home, I've had 5 Dell laptops and PCs that have all lasted 7+ years so I've never thought about another brand, but what else should I consider? The Zenbook looks most appealing to me. Would it last as long? I'll use the laptop for browsing, movies, and photoshop for personal photography. I'd like to stay in the same ballpark, I paid $700 for the Ryzen 7 5700U with 16 GB of RAM (retail was $1000).

Just list good laptops deals that has these in recent times and I'll look into them Laptops that doesn't have any problems. Maybe more popular models since unpopular ones maybe would have more problems No used (or returned and resold) laptops since those would have problems Would there be any good sales over next holiday, guess we'll see... Think macbooks also have heat problems so don't think worth looking into but may look into them in future?
