    I went from a Ryzen 1600 to a 5600x, what a BEAST.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 07:08 AM PST

    I'm sporting a humble GTX 1660 Ti and an ASUS B450M-Gaming. I was using a Ryzen 1600 OC'd @3.7GHz and just got a 5600x.

    What. the. actual. fu*k.

Battlefield V went from ~55 fps on Ultra to over 100. Hell, 2042 can almost hit the 100s on Medium.

Almost all Ubisoft games suffered from this god-awful GPU usage issue and now it's been fixed. Both Watch Dogs 2 and Far Cry 5 doesn't drop below 60 anymore, averaging on the 80s.

Don't even get me started on emulation, I basically got a PS3 included, RPCS3 runs amazingly.

I'm in love with this thing, it feels like a whole new PC. Excited to test Horizon Zero Dawn and Cyberpunk next.

EDIT: This is all on 1080p and these huge changes are more noticeable in CPU intensive games, like the ones I mentioned.

Deathloop and Forza Horizon 5 for example didn't see a lot of change, although they are definitely smoother, with really stable frametimes.

    5950x vs 12900k for gaming?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 07:56 AM PST

What is the general consensus between the two CPUs? The 12900k seems faster for gaming only? But i am not so sure if I want to deal with finding ddr5 ram which is not aimed at gamers?

Hi guys, basically im stuck between a ryzen 5800x and 5900x

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 05:06 PM PST

    so basically i can buy a 5800x for 390euro (440usd) or a 5900x for 530euro (600usd)

I'm wondering is it worth saving the 140 euro and just getting a 5800x or am i missing something?

    any help will be appreciated.

also if i was to also get my hands on a rtx 3080, what watt psu would i need? i already have a 700, would i need more?

    Thanks :)

    I think I just saved someone's Christmas?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2021 08:52 AM PST

Posted my leftover GTX 1070 FE online, as I just came into ownership of a 3060TI. I received a message from a guy that says "Hey, what are the specs??" -- a little odd to me, I felt that was a weird question coming from someone buying a 5yr old GPU. I assumed you would know the specs before clicking on the ad. I responded with a link to the NVIDIA website (with all specs) and reassured him it was the Founder's Edition. His follow up was... "Is this the complete set?" -- At this point I realized he had no idea what he was talking about. Before I could think of a reply, he followed up with "Sorry I don't know anything, my son wants one" -- I started with "Does your son already have a computer? This ad is for one specific part (a GPU) and there are no sets." -- Turns out his son does NOT have a computer at all.

I told this guy (who was super nice btw) , that he needs to purchase an entire computer (please quit calling it 'a set'), and if it's desired to be for gaming, it will need to have a GPU. I told him to google some articles/sites for "prebuilt gaming computers 2021" and look on sites like Bestbuy/Newegg/Microcenter. I left him with a piece of advice - most people trying to sell old GPUs for high prices are not going to care. Someone would very easily answer "Yes this is complete set" and not think anything about it. People don't care. Imagine if you were this kid and you get a 5yr old GPU for a computer that doesn't exist.

I hope kid, if you are out there - you get a gaming PC this Christmas.

RTX 2070 (super and non super) upgrade questions

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:14 PM PST

So I'm currently looking to upgrade my build.

    GPU: GTX 1060 3gb
    CPU: I7-8700(non K)
    RAM: 16GB DDR4
    Motherboard: ASUS PRIME H310-PLUS
    Model: TRACE940
    Manufacturer: IBUYPOWER

I'm wanting to upgrade my GPU to an RTX 2070. Not sure if it'll be a super or non super yet. But the questions I'm wanting to know is:

    1. Is my mobo compatible with both super and non super? Or just one of them?
    2. Would a 650W PSU be good enough? I've seen some sources that say so but just want to reconfirm. I don't have extra fans or watercooling, so just the basic cooling and computer specs.

Edit: I'm new when it comes to upgrading a computer, only really 'upgraded' it by installing a new SSD but that was simple.

I need some advice on my GPU and PSU mounting

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 09:01 PM PST

I'm finishing up my PC but I was wondering if having my PSU facing up towards the bottom fans of my GPU will affect any of them for airflow.

I have a Corsair CX750F RGB so I want it facing up for the RGB to reflect on the GPU.

Plus, a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 Master.

There's probably ~6 inches of space in between and it's an open case. Think I'll be fine?

New computer - Massive DPC latency in LatencyMon due to GPU, RTX 3070, Gigabyte Vision variant - Audio crackling, popping and general system hitches. Would really appreciate some help

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:39 PM PST

Hey. Built a new computer recently with some pretty decent parts. But I notice whenever I'm doing anything that requires any real GPU activity, I get some heavy, heavy audio crackling and general system lag. It feels as if my entire machine freezes up for a half second whilst the audio tries to catch up.

After about 8 hours of googling and trying different solutions, I came across a tool called LatencyMon that confirmed what I assumed to be the issue, and put it into words than I could.

"Your system appears to have trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates."

One thing that confirmed my suspicions about my entire DPC latency issue being due to my GPU, aside from the main latency culprit being nvlddmkm.sys, is that when I disabled my graphics card in Device Manager, system audio was fine with no issues. The easiest way for me to test this was clicking a program that required admin permissions and that would usually cause distortion. However, when the GPU wasn't enabled, the system was fine which the tests also seems to indicate.

On the latest drivers, the DPC time seems to be abysmal.

On the older drivers, the results didn't seem to be much better.

Made a pastebin with the LatencyMon stats result after a short test. This one doesn't seem as egregious as the other tests I've ran, but the audio and lag was still as bad during this test.

I've lost count of what I've tried at this point, but what I can confirm and remember doing is:

    • Disabling throttling (c-states in BIOS and changing power plan in control panel)
    • Disabling ethernet port
    • Updating every driver available
    • Revert GPU drivers, using UUD
    • Resetting BIOS settings to default
    • Updating chipset drivers
    • Updating all drivers, squinting at long version numbers

    My system specs are:

    • Asus Rog STRIX B560-i 'gaming' motherboard
    • i5 11400f
    • RTX 3070

    No display on monitor

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:56 PM PST

    Build: Gpu: rx580 Psu:evga 600w Cpu: ryzen 5 5600x Ram: Corsair vengeance 2x16Gbs Mobo: gigabyte b450 ds3h

This started during a race in fh5 and I've been using the same build for about a year now with no issues. After the pc crashed I reset it and can't get it to display anything so I took it to my friends, the gpu and cpu works in his, but the only success we had was putting his ram into my pc and it worked, so I bought new ram and was still having the same issue. So when I brought it back to my friends to try his ram again it wouldn't display. And now one of his ram isn't working. What's the cause? Psu or mobo?

Issue with new build - boot issue.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:47 PM PST

I just built a new PC at the beginning of October. When it's running, it's great! However, it has had this weird issue 3 times now (that always sends me into a panic attack lol). The PC will randomly restart and only boot into bios. When it does this, it does not recognize any boot drives at all. I have fixed it once by reinstalling Windows on a different drive. The second time I plugged in the windows USB and went through the troubleshooting options (although it didn't detect any issues) so I shut it down and it launched normally. The third time, literally all I did was plug in the windows 10 usb and it came up like nothing was wrong. Thanks for the help!

How can I disable my GPU without having to take it out?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:17 PM PST

I have a pc with a 3070, but because of work reasons, I need to use Final Cut Pro which is only available to OS X. I don't want to buy a Mac, so I'll have to use hackintosh. OS X has no drivers for Nvidia graphics cards, and only for AMD GPUs. So I'm considering getting one and dual-boot windows with OS X to use final cut, while still daily-driving windows with the 3070.

But here's the problem. I'll have to swap out the 3070 every time I need to use OS X, which is really troublesome. How can I conveniently disable one of them so that I can just put both in? Thanks (and sorry for my English if it's weird as I am not a native speaker)

Trouble with game performance with Halo infinite

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:16 PM PST

Before I start my system: Ryzen 5 1600x Gtx 1660 super 16gb ram Cannot remember mobo

Playing halo infinite I am running at medium setting at 1080p. Most of the time this runs just fine staying right at 60fps. But after sometime it starts to fluctuate, which is really annoying, dropping down to as low as 30fps.

I have used Argus to monitor my cpu and gpu performance, gpu is usually at 85-90% with spike to 95% utilization. Cpu utilization is around 60% on average. Temps of my cpu and gpu never go higher than 130f.

I wouldn't think that even at 90% gpu utilization it wouldn't affect performance over an hour or more would it? I don't think it is throttling because my temps never get above 130f. Am I missing something or am I right to assume the performance should not diminish after a couple hours? Any input would be appreciated.

    Need help with AIO

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:13 PM PST

I am building a pc. I am having issues with the nzxt z73 AIO. Here it is. the fans are not spinning. Booting the pc the temps gradually rise and eventually it turns off. I was getting cpu fan error and cpu overheating warning/error before. I tried all the headers for the AIO pump. The fans did not work until I plugged them in the chassis fan and cpu fan headers. Now the pc goes straight into bios and the temps go down for the first few seconds and then rise again and eventually it turns off. I tried to feel it see if the pump is working but I am not sure how to tell. I have built pcs before but this is my first time using a AIO so please let me know how to fix it asap.

    Mother board is rog b550i

    Buying a PC?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:13 PM PST

I'm wanting buy get my hands on a new pc, a workstation if anything. This would mainly be for 3D Modeling, rendering, and video editing. But I also want to play games such as Warzone and Halo Infinite. Personally building it myself has been a bust since I can't get the graphics card I want or the CPU, so I'm wanting to get a prebuilt one.

Out of the sites I've been looking at, these 2 are the ones that interest me the most

    https://www.pugetsystems.com/

    https://buildredux.com/

Does anyone have any recommendations on which site could prove more efficient for me looking at what I want?

Relatively new to PC building. Having a hard time understanding how to see why/how one GPU is better than another, and also how components all work together to create a PC

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:36 PM PST

The main thing that I'm having a hard time understanding regarding GPU's is that I don't really know how to compare one GPU to another (I have no idea how to interpret the numbers I see attatched to them on specs). I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to be looking for, like what things are bad or good, be it in the basic specs or in the many performance demonstrations for particular GPUs that are out there. I also think there's a lot of lingo out there that confuses me personally, and I haven't really been able to find a guide/explanation or much info all in one area that plainly explains to an average person like me how a GPU works, or really how the components of a computer all work together and create a PC system.

I only understand the general roles of components (like gpu essentially = the PC's eyes, CPU=Brain, mobo=body, etc), but not really how they communicate together/come together to make the systems we all use to do our everyday stuff. I think the latter part of this question/discussion inquiry is more of a technical and ground level "how does the hardware work" question I think; I'm trying to understand how each component functions, how it comes together with other components, and how I can better understand these components at a "this thing go brr and makes this happen when it interacts with this other thing" level, if that makes any sense at all.

So, I was wondering If anyone could explain this to me or could provide any links to things that I can read/watch that wan help me understand any of these things.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:23 PM PST

I'm aware that this is a disgrace and I really want to fix it because it makes me vomit every time I look at it. It's affecting my temperatures and I'm a newbie builder and don't know how to fix it because my cables don't seem to be long enough for any other configuration. I need severe help. Thanks.

Help! Best way to attach 4x 2.5” SSD as one volume?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:16 PM PST

Hey all, I have a bunch of random 2.5 inch SATA SSDs laying around and would like to know what the best way of mounting them as a single volume on my Win 11 desktop computer would be? They total 4tb in capacity.

The goal: use my leftover 2.5" drives to create one large storage space. Idc about redundancy or DLP at all. This is for game storage.

I was originally thinking a quad 2.5 PCIe 1x chip without raid control, but this would mount each drive as a separate volume (which is probably fine tbh) but just not sure it's the best solution. I could then use a dynamic disk to "combine" them into one large drive.

What is the best way to do this?

    Thanks everyone!

[Annoying Problem] Expensive Problem After Cleaning PC...

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 05:50 PM PST

New to Reddit, but this problem is one without answers everywhere I go, so I'm here now.

    GPU: RX550

    CPU:AMD Ryzen 3 1200 Quad-Core Proccessor with 8 GB of Ram

Basically, I cleaned out my PC after 3 years and reassembled it after I was done. It turned on with no problems, but when I tried to play Devil May Cry 5 specifically in Fullscreen, my monitor flagged with "no signal". My PC ran all these games before with no problems, sure they looked pretty bad but they were well above playable, great frame rates, no crashes, no stuttering, blah blah blah. Even took the PC to the "best in my area" and ended up blowing 250$ on the repair, when the problem wasn't even resolved in the end. Even got an SSD upgrade for the computer and ordered the same stick of ram for this PC for 40$, and I won't be able to use those upgrades.

Regardless of my PC "not meeting minimum requirements" on games like Doom Eternal (267.1 Hours ran just fine on this PC up until I cleaned and re-seated everything). Everything runs like dogshit now, even with the extra low tweaks I had for these games. Keep in mind, this problem was present before the PC was taken to the repair shop.

Everything ran fine before I cleaned my PC, I have no fucking clue what happened.

What should I plan to upgrade too from my 1060 3GB

Should I use 2 nvme ssd drives on my rog striga 7490 motherboard?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 09:25 PM PST

I read that if I add a second nvme I will lose speed between the two and some other issues may come up, but all the information about this comes from threads over a year old So I just want some clarification
