    Display Names change frequently

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 10:57 PM PST

    Hi,

I've got an weird Problem. Every now and then my Display-Names change from DisplayPort-0 and DisplayPort-1 to DP-1 and DP-2(4 Times in the last week). My Display configuration needs these names to work, I use arandr to graphicly set the configuration and then autorandr to save it and reload it, when it detects these displays.

I couldn't find anything online, do you guys have an idea whats wrong?

PS: I use manjaro with i3 on a RX570 with opensource drivers

    Liinux server connection help

    Posted: 06 Dec 2021 02:25 AM PST

    A = windows 10 B = Ubuntu server 20.04 (no gui) C = Ubuntu 20.04 (gui)

Trying to ssh, or ping from "A" to "B" ends with "destination host unreachable" but both are connected to the same wifi. But I can ping my "A" from the "B" . if i ping the "A" from "B" it succeeds and right after that i am able to ping and ssh from "A" to "B" for a short time.

I believe it has to do something with the default network settings on Linux Machine as I have another machine "C" on the same network that I can ping and ssh to easily. All IP are on the same 192.168.1.x range.

    Any way to solve this?

    Audio sounds mono/muffled | Kubuntu 20.04.3

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 06:26 PM PST

The title pretty much says it all. I do believe I have already tried reinstalling audio drivers but the issue persists.

The only somewhat related issue I find online is someone on Ubuntu having issues with (specifically) Bluetooth audio doing this. (I'm using wired headphones).

busybox just appeared on my PC. How can I hide busybox from my rEFInd dual boot options if the standard method is not working?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 05:43 PM PST

A new boot option suddenly appear on my PC called busybox. At first I thought that it was a piece of malware since I did not install it, however this does not seem to be the case.

I am unable to hide busybox from my rEFInd boot options like I could with others. I currently dual boot pop os and windows 11. I was able to just press the delete key to hide a boot option I did not need before, but now if I try that for busybox the screen flashes black for less than a second and nothing changes.

When I launch to busybox I get a black and white terminal with text that I dont understand with something about ubuntu. It has 'help' as an option to see the commands but it refuses any keyboard entry. I need to do a full restart to get out and into another OS or rEFInd.

Can anyone help me in hiding this boot option?

    How do I contribute?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 02:01 AM PST

I switched to PopOS from Windows about a month ago due to the LTT challenge. Somebody wrote under one of the videos that people should stop complaining and start contributing. So, how do I contribute to the Linux project? I know Java but I've never programmed professionally. I'm a linguist and translator by trade so I'm good at writing stuff (in my first language). So far, I've been submitting protondb entries.

    Windows Applications\files

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 09:25 PM PST

    Hello Guys,

I have an application that I used a lot on my Windows machine. I am wondering if there is a way to export this to my Linux machine.

The Program in question is a Multi-graphic remote debugger for the Nintendo Switch

    https://github.com/mdbell/Noexes

It seems that the Download links have gone down and I still have the files that I downloaded on my Windows 10 machine.

So really I want to know.

    1. Is there a way to run a windows applications on Ubuntu?(I heard about Wine but I am unsure.)
    2. Is there a way to convert this application to run on Linux without a work around?
    3. Does there happen to be a Multi-graphic remote debugger for Linux that may work for my Switch?(I use this app to read and perform memory hacking)

Here is a screenshot of the files in the folder

I've been using Linux for a while now and I really enjoy the operating system but I feel like every time I install a package and or move a folder around or download a dependency or configure my system to do something or uninstall something I am somehow making my system dirty(or a mess at the least) . I don't know if I am actually doing this or this is just something that I don't need to worry about but if it is I would really appreciate it if someone could help point me in the right direction of cleaning it all up and how to prevent it in the future.

"Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported" Screen at Boot

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 01:48 PM PST

I have just migrated from Arch to Gentoo, and have little Gentoo experience. Apologies if the solution is obvious.

Context: On a 2017 MacBook running Gentoo Linux. Chroot'ed via Ubuntu LiveMedia.

After finishing the Handbook guide on installing Gentoo, I am greeted with the "Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported" message. /dev/sda1 is esp (and is formatted FAT), and /dev/sda3 is root. Nothing else shows up when booting other than a blank screen with the message. This image I found online is similar to what I see every time I boot.

Debugging Info (more can be provided if needed):

    Resolve 17 unsupported media

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 07:38 PM PST

I guess "unsupported media" isn't the right term, media preview is not available I know .mp4 isn't supported by the free version of resolve 17 so I tried other formats like H. 264, H. 265 & also no luck there. I'm using pop_os btw.
    any suggestion to fix this..?

I'm attaching a clip that might help u guys to figure out the issue...(as Reddit don't allow me to upload a .mkv file I have to convert that clip into .mp4 & that .mp5is a bit glitchy )or else click on this drive link - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EYQ1KLclTm9csDX1RNLCpaBH5Lls17id/view?usp=sharing its the original clip without any conversion..

Messed up password-less login with pub key login

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 02:43 PM PST

    [SOLVED] - I'm an idiot.

Hi, I tried to create a password-less login over ssh for my raspberry pi. I generated my pub key and added it to authorized_keys. Everything went smoothly and I was able to login without a password.

Then I got the idea to make my install even more secure by removing the ability to allow people to even try and login with a password. So I opened /etc/ssh/sshd_config and changed

    #PasswordAuthentication yes

    to

    PasswordAuthentication no

    I rebooted and now can't login :(

What did I do wrong? Is there any tricks I can use to reset this, besides hooking up the pi to a hardware?

Here's my config file. Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

    Thanks.

    Looking for a decent downloader

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 02:39 PM PST

Something super lightweight and supports smart download in multi-threads and please don't recommend JD2 because I need something lightweight. For Android, I use ADM which is super light and the apk was less than 10 MB. If there's something lightweight downloader similar to ADM on Linux then let me know.

Currently, I'm forced to DL stuff using a browser which is so bothersome as you can't pause it and resume later; it just cancels the entire download that way.

EDIT: I forgot about legendary wget and aria2c. I'm preferring wget for now because aria2c is multi-thread downloader while wget is single which really hampers your server/internet to take the full speed out of it which might negatively affect your internet/server.

Help me to choose a wm

    Posted: 05 Dec 2021 07:54 AM PST

Guys I need your help. I was using i3 for past couple months. And it was really draining my laptop battery. I didn't not know this until I tried kde for some reason kde uses 3x less battery than i3. I really like kde but the problem my workflow with tiling windows managers became more efficient and the number of unused things in kde kinda annoy me. I tried one kde tiling script but still it's not that good. So my need is does anyone know anyother tiling wm that uses very less power. Or is there a way to make i3 use less power ?
