I don't know if this subreddit is correct. But is this laptop cpu legit? Core i7 7200u? Because I think the 7200u is i5 right?

my laptop broke but my ssd drive still works, can i buy a new laptop of the same make and model and just take the old ssd drive and put it in the new one?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 10:50 PM PST

my laptop was a msi gp76 leopard it was resting on top of a counter but somhow slid along 2 feet of countertop, fell 3 feet, and then landed on it's side, onto a hard tile floor. when it turns on, the fan works, and it can start up, but the screen is broken and the start screen graphics look like shredded colored paper, so i am sure that the internal data storage drive still works.

another question other that title question: is it possible to buy say a msi ge76 raider or any other msi gaming laptops that are on the newer and higher end, and just replace the drive with the old one?

i have a lot of private data on my system drive that i don't want to lose. but i also don't want a person from say mirco center, or bestbuy, who does data migration to accidentally or intentionally see my data on my drive. lots of guilty pleasures and a lot of personal things including my financial plan for my future surgeries are on my main drive. i live in a very conservative area. so i don't want to run the risk of a transphobic person handling my information. i do not live in an area safe for people who are transgender, and if someone who is transphobic looks at my drive's data, they could really screw me over… socially and financially.

labeling this as hardware but idk if it should be general questions or buying help instead.

Does anybody have experiences with Vant laptops, specifically Vant MiniMoove?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 09:58 PM PST

I found them online, but barely find any reviews, especially because they're mostly in Spanish. The specs look like they could be a good fit for me, since I'm looking for a small laptop for university. I'd just like to get some opinions first. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know if there has been a modern clamshell laptop produced with a transparent body like this? I love this vibe.

Will the glass crack or will it heat up and harm the laptop? Thanks in advance

    New Laptop Suggestions?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 07:57 PM PST

This is the laptop I've been using for the past 4 years, prior to its unfortunate semi-drowning. During finals week. I was looking for some input because I don't know much about computer specs. This is also my budget ceiling.

Overall, I was satisfied with this laptop.

    • Performance was great (web browsing/running several programs at once/word processing/playing movies and music). I wasn't sure if I went overboard, but I picked the i5 because I wanted speed.
    • Portability was decent--lighter would've been nice. Battery life is good.
    • Storage was fine, plus I have an external hard drive.
    • I like that it's a 2-in-1, wish it could've been a bit more like a tablet rather than a bendy touchscreen laptop. Before this, I thought about getting a tablet and pen for school but if there's a better 2-in-1 I'm interested.
    • I like the metallic look, wish it was less fragile with scratches and denting.

Any suggestions based off of this?

    Software trouble

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 07:10 PM PST

So I just recently bought my first PC of any sort, a Samsung galaxy book flex, and am having a bit of trouble with a few software issues. The first one is apps that came pre-downloaded onto the laptop, such as Spotify, or apps that I downloaded through the Microsoft Store, photoshop express, seem to be unwilling to go onto the desktop. They aren't in the files anywhere and right clicking the apps when searching them up does not give the option, neither does trying to drag them onto the desktop itself. Along with that, I downloaded steam and for some reason decided to put all the random files that need their own folder on the desktop, only to realize I can neither delete or move said folder of the desktop. I've gone through and deleted steam itself, and the issue with deleting the folder is still present, saying that the folder is open in another program. Is there anyone that could possibly help me out? I've been trying stuff for an hour and it's starting to drive me insane. Much appreciated!!

Has anyone been able to get their hands on the Inspiron 13 (7306) 2-in-1 black edition 2021? The one with the stylus garage.

Need some hands-on insight/review on this device. It's mostly unavailable almost all the time. But by the looks of it, it seems like a premium device.

Which lightweight windows laptops with antiglare have similar battery life/less heat like M1 macbooks? Which are the closest options?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 05:23 PM PST

Which One is the better bang for the buck option?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 05:22 PM PST

I've been searching for a laptop and I finally found some affordeable options but I'm not much of any expert when it comes to computers so I was hoping you could give me some help.

I'm not a gamer nor do I use Photoshop/edit videos. If anything, I'd use word and Excel and a couple Chrome tabs, nothing heavy duty, really. I narrowed down my options to these:

    Lenovo V15 IIL Intel Core i5 HP 250 g8 i5 8 256 HP 15S EQ2007NP

Which One would be the best?

Hp pavilion x360 14_cdxx model RTC

    Posted: 03 Dec 2021 04:47 PM PST

so I have this laptop and the battery is dead it doesn't work anymore so I removed it but when I tried to launch the laptop back it didn't work saying cmos checksum is invalid, I treid restarting couple times same error so I returned the battery back in but same error is there tried to check if there is a cmos battery but didn't find any searched online I found that some hp laptops doesn't have cmos (hp calls it rtc) can't find anything related to it, and now I don't know what is wrong exactly

    edit

I was able to solve it by updating the bios using a flash drive with the bios drivers installed from hp website then clicking on windows key + B while the laptop is shut down then holding the power key for 3 seconds with the win+B buttons lifting the button key and stay holding the win + B buttons untill it eneters recovery mode and it auto updated the bios then when it said flash complete I restarted the laptop and it kept turning on and off in a loop for 10 minutes or so and then it worked the windows login was disabled though due to many shutdowns and kept me locked for 2 hours but I resseted the password and it worked fine.
