Staff member’s computer was stolen, how worried should I be about what’s on it?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 05:40 AM PST

Hello, so as the title says, one of my staff members had her work computer with her in a hotel room and while she was out, someone stole her bag. The computer had a pin and had some sensitive student information. Just wondering how worried I should be about whoever stole it bypassing the pin and getting access to the computer and that information? Is there any way to wipe the computer remotely? Do thieves tend to sell these for parts or wipe them and sell them as blank computers or do they target the information on them?

    Thanks!

Hello. I've seen the other day that you can change default Windows Explorer as a file manager to something else, and I did that, saw here that slmeone recommends Files v2 so I downloaded it and had it set as a default file explorer. Now I wanna revert, I wanna go back to the Windows default File Explorer but it wont let me do so. Please help.

Is it worth it? Switching to Windows 11

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 07:10 PM PST

Hello, I have just reinstalled my Win10 due to some problems, but now it works excellent. So, when I opened update center system started downloading win11 itself and wants me now to reload my pc to install this new Windows 11. I saw in internet and on YouTube the changes those were made, like new design, new features, and other, but, for my work, I need my performance to be on the same level as I used to have in win10 or higher if it is possible, will I have performance issues/loss if I switch to new OS?

    Suspend process on boot

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 03:29 PM PST

I have a sound card. The driver works fine, however there is a built in .exe that is causing problems.

Deleting the exe causes the drivers to not load.

I can suspend the process manually after logging on and that solves my issues.

However it's annoying and tedious and I paid quite a lot for this sound card, and this is the only driver available.

Is there any powershell script or batch file that will suspend the process?

Windows version of Apple’s magic keyboard

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 03:07 PM PST

Hey guys do you know about some num keyboard that is feels like Apple's magic keyboard? I was thinking about Microsoft surface keyboard but sadly this one is old from 2017 so it is no longer available in my country. Then I saw Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Desktop Keyboard but i don't know.

Do you have some tips? Does anyone have Microsoft surface keyboard cuz I am even willing to buy it from another country if it would worth it.

All I am looking for is the keyboard that looks and feels like apple's magic keyboard but don't have that typical Cmd stuff.

Windows 11 is a HUGE UI downgrade

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 11:37 AM PST

The design of the 11 UI is terrible, it's really not a step forward. It's not possible to drag the taskbar to a second monitor, and the design is very poor in general. This is a really disappoiting downgrade from 10, it needs work.

Start menu search became dark in Windows 10

    Posted: 09 Nov 2021 10:28 PM PST

Not using search that often, so not sure when exactly this happened. But seems like a few days ago. First i have noticed this at work when i have removed one VM from domain and restarted and saw that when i search for Services, Control Panel, etc. in Start it shows dark mode version of search. Checked on my home PC and it's the same. Now, i do use dark theme for Windows apps. Because i like darker Start menu and taskbar (white version from Light theme is too bright). But i don't use dark theme in overall. So, i guess they made it consistent with your setting. Just looked weird at first. And they probably did this from the server side as there were no updates recently (and VM at work has Windows Update blocked). Windows 10 1909/21H1. My domain joined work laptop still has light theme in search though (20H2). This is not a support request, but just an observation i wanted to share and see if others have noticed this and what they think about it.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 10:33 AM PST

In Windows 10 when you use keyboard to change sound level there was buttons to pause/play, 30 second forward/10 second back. There is not in Windows 11 they were so usefull especially when you play a full screan game and I want them in Windows 11 too.

In what package does Windows 11 Pro come?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 03:46 AM PST

    Hi,

I can't find any photo or a video of the unboxing of Windows 11.

Do you have any photos or videos?

Is there a version that comes on a USB drive?

The seller that I want to buy the Windows 11 from him says it comes on a DVD-ROM, and I'm curious if it's a nice box or just a flat sleeve for the DVD.

    Thank you!

Any recommendations for software that can aggregate RSS feeds into one place AND pull the story content in as well?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 06:13 AM PST

I hate seeing only story titles in things like Newsmax or Outlook that require opening in full on a browser. Hoping to find a desktop app that can serve as an "all-in-one" source for news..

    Windows 10 activation

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 05:22 AM PST

Bought a refurbished PC online (ya ya ya, I know, but it was cheap and met my needs for a home theatre box) and the guy who sold it shipped out to me with a clean windows 10 install and no drivers. Installed the nic driver and ran wupdate, and now I have the watermark on tht bottom left that it's not an active license. Shot him a message to say what's the deal and he said just use the OEM win 7 pro key on the COA sticker. Will this actually activate? I've never heard of being able to use a key for an old os to activate a newer os outside of the free upgrade period. Thanks for the help Reddit.

Windows Mail Post Disappearing After I place them into a Folder.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 03:18 AM PST

I am so done with this app - Im spend hours every day just fucking with random applications and bugs.

This time the issue is that every time I take a mail out of my inbox and place it into a folder, it will disappear. I cant see it. The only way for me to see it in the folder into which I placed it is when I search for it.

Has anyone got a fix for this or knows the reason this is happening?

What is the point of the cancel option when shutting down/restarting?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2021 01:12 AM PST

Whenever I click cancel it just continues to shut down/restart, but it won't get past the option screen if I don't choose which is pretty pointless because like I said it will just continue to shut down/restart, this feature only worked with Windows 7, from 8-10 it just doesn't work SSD or HDD.
