Best Budget Gaming Laptop UK (£600) Posted: 01 Nov 2021 04:44 AM PDT Any recommendations for a gaming laptop at around the £600 mark? $2000 USD | U.S.A. - Really like my Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, but want a little higher specs Posted: 31 Oct 2021 09:59 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $2000 would be a nice limit, but lower is better. I bought a very nice Lenovo Legion 5i Pro from Costco for $1100 a month ago or so, and I'm considering returning it. I'd be willing to spend a few hundred more to upgrade to 32GB of RAM and get a better video card (mine came with a 3050) Are you open to refurbs/used? I'd prefer new. I'm okay with refurbs for other items, but somehow a computer seems like something I'd like to be the first/only owner for. I'm open to arguments though. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance, build quality, battery life, form factor. I don't care about having a touch screen, and I'm not that into 2-in-1's. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important. I feel like my Legion 5i Pro is pretty heavy and chonky, but I like that it feels solid and doesn't flex when I move it around. An older laptop I have is a lot thinner and lighter, but it feels flimsy. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I'm really happy with the screen on my Legion 5i Pro, it's a 16" QHD screen. I could go to 17" and would prefer to stay 15" or above. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Yes. Typical use for me is to have a couple dozen Chrome tabs open along with Chief Architect architectural design software running. This involves some 3D rendering, and Chief Architect recommends an RTX 30 series to take advantage of GPU Ray Tracing. One of my reasons for re-thinking my Legion 5i Pro purchase is because I am consistently running up against the 16GB of RAM I got. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I'm not gaming currently, though I would like to be able to. It is not a priority, and I feel the specs I'm looking for would be sufficient for me to play at some kind of "okay" settings once I do get back to gaming. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A 10-key number pad. I do a lot of work in Excel with numbers, and I hate not having one. That's a problem in laptop shopping, because a bunch of great deals on MSI laptops seem to be cropping up at Costco (where I'd love to buy) but very few of them have a numpad. Also, I'd like it to have Thunderbolt compatibility, so I can plug into a dock. Having Thunderbolt compatibility for monitors, peripherals, and charging is a requirement. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Honestly, I'd love to just get an upgraded Legion 5i Pro but the price gives me pause. I see on the Lenovo website that I can build one out and spend $2400 to get an RTX 3070 with 32GB of ram and an Intel i7 11800H processor. The chassis feels great, the screen rocks, the keyboard is perfect. The speakers and webcam leave something to be desired, but those aren't deal breakers. When I'm working for hours on a home plan, I go to my desk and plug into the dock as mentioned above, but I also like to sit and putter around and do my spreadsheet work in my recliner or in bed. The 10-key seems like such a bummer of a deal breaker, but I am pretty adamant about it. Is $2400 just what it takes to get what I'm looking for? Should I anticipate any deals around Black Friday? Thank you! submitted by /u/thephyreinside [link] [comments] |

- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.14", taller aspect ratios are also appealing
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.Light gaming, I have a desktop for primary gaming. Other than that mostly chrome/word processing. Will also want to use this laptop for media consumption (Netflix/movies/YouTube)
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?Maybe games like Lego games, Terraria, Minecraft, Stardew Valley.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Prefer something with touchscreen. Want a relatively nice screen since I would likely watch videos on the device. No need for SD card reader, HDMI, ethernet or any particular ports. A minimum of 1 USB type-A port would be nice.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.Have a desktop for heavier gaming, that being said I am happy to pay more for higher end power/discrete GPUs for light gaming/future proofing/just nice to have. -Somewhat Important as my wife will be lugging it back and forth to work - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
16"+ She has a 17" dell from 8+ years ago and cannot get used to a smaller screen, however, she did appreciate some of the 16" screens, especially the ones with smaller edging to make the screen 'appear' larger than it actually was. - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
-She is in nursing school and doesnt play computer games. She does peruse facebook, youtube, etc. No intensive things like video/photo editing, etc. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
-Read Above - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
-Reliable Build Quality, large battery life, lasts longer than 2 years. Should be able to run multiple different browser tabs and/or apps without issue. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
-She is in nursing school so she typically has multiple browser tabs open as well as computer applications for homework. I would like the quality to be high so she doesnt have to replace it in 1 year and for the battery life to be large so she can go several hours in class without concern for charging it. As far as other bells and whistles are concerned, they would be extra icing on the cake but not necessary. Not looking for an Alienware laptop or anything like that. She additionally noted to me that she does not prefer 2in1 and/or touchscreens but if its a part of a good deal she wouldnt say no. - Bonus points for anything that could be on the black friday list! :D

1000 EURO Budget, Heavy Browsing, Lots of Writing, Photoshop/InDesign Posted: 01 Nov 2021 06:06 AM PDT My main concern is definitely a sharp, non-reflective, not too thick bezel Display. Followed by a high-quality keyboard that doesn't only register hard, centered presses, since I write a lot (and fast). An accurate trackpad wouldn't be bad either... And lastly, enough speed to handle photoshop, tons of chrome tabs, and fast boots. Not intending to play any games or render videos with it either, so GPU performance shouldn't be of concern. - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

I went to a shop the other day and really enjoyed the Display of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, so I was thinking about getting the Surface Laptop 4 but the 16GB RAM options seem a bit overpriced. Not sure if 8GB would be enough. Reviews mentioned the keyboard being too flexible, I honestly couldn't say it flexed at all, it actually felt pretty good, do you know about the surface 4 KB? Any other reasons to not get the surface laptop 4? I was also looking at the HP x360 435 G8 but its bezels are a definite turn-off. submitted by /u/lordn9ne [link] [comments] |

$1200-1400 - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Slim with high performance. I meet with clients including businesses so I would like something somewhat low profile when but a good amount of power. This is probably the most important part and that heart of what I want - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Weight isn't super important but it has to be low profile - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
I currently have a 2015 13" MacBook Pro and it leaves me craving more but I'm fine settling with a similar footprint - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I'd like to be able to run most AAA games at 60 fps high settings, possibly 30 fps with raytracing on. VR is also a bonus if possible - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Half Life Alyx AC: Valhalla Red Dead Redemption Minecraft - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
A fingerprint sensor would be a nice bonus - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I know the market is inflated but that said I'm here because I don't have the time to do much research. I'm a web developer and while my current 2015 MacBook Pro works fine for now, the recent MacBooks got me excited. looking for laptop recommendations to buy during black friday $1000 USD, United States Posted: 31 Oct 2021 11:55 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
1,000 USD - United States - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Battery life is a must. 6-8+ hours - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not too heavy, thin would be nice. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
15 inch - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Most likely some photo editing with my upcoming graphic design class next semester. Will also do some coding. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I don't play games. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Need numerical pad, touch screen, stylus and 360 laptop (can be bent). - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I bought the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex (15) last year but the battery began to deteriorate. I want a laptop that basically has the same features as that laptop: touch screen, numerical pad, stylus (thicker stylus would be nice) and can be bent 360 degree, but with a good battery that will last me 6-8+ hours. Lastly, this is not an requirement but rather a personal preference, I would like if the laptop is in any color other than silver or white. Thanks so much! I will be reading the comments and be keeping my eyes out for deals during Black Friday. submitted by /u/rocknrollhatesme [link] [comments] |

Laptop suggestion Posted: 01 Nov 2021 12:04 AM PDT My budget for getting a laptop would be preferably below SGD$1500 I am also open to a refurb one as long as it won't cause any major setbacks in the future and not too much damage. Regarding performance I would like it if it has a faster boot up time and as for battery life would like 1-2hrs of battery life but honestly It does not really matter to me that much. Weight below 5 lbs would be good and As long as it's not as bulky as some of those very heavy gaming laptops would be ok. Screen size would prefer 14' or 15.6' I would most likely be doing coding on the laptop not too sure abt what programs I would be using tho. For game wise I only play league of legends and maplestory. For league of legends would prefer if it could run at 90+ fps at high settings and for maplestory as long as it doesn't lag at high setting will be ok. I would prefer a laptop keyboard with arrow keys on the right side of it. Thank you!!! submitted by /u/boombampopop [link] [comments] |

HDMI 2.1 workstation with good battery life Posted: 31 Oct 2021 10:14 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $2500 USD max but $2000 would be great. The less the better. Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes but prefer new. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Battery life, performance, build quality, portability (in that order) How important is weight and thinness to you? Portability is a nice-to-have but not a need-to-have. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-17" Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Software development on Linux. I'd like some horsepower but would rather have good battery life. The biggest thing is needing HDMI 2.1 to run my LG C1 display. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No gaming whatsoever, I have a desktop for that. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? HDMI 2.1 is a must, I don't want to use an adapter as they can be problematic. I'd prefer a nice 1440+ screen (OLEDs are awesome). Good battery life is needed as this will be a desk+couch warrior. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I feel like the Lenovo Legion 5, Gigabyte Aero, or Razer Blade would be perfect but they all have abysmal 5 hour battery lives. Photo editing laptop between $500 and $800 Posted: 31 Oct 2021 05:37 PM PDT I'm a photographer who shoots mainly sports, and I have to transfer, edit and send files out live during events. I need a laptop that can run Photo Mechanic (a photo management software for copying and culling images) and Adobe Lightroom (for editing images). Only thing I want is for it to never crash or freeze in any of those programs. I don't need any more than a 512GB nvme since it will only be used during the game. Of course since I would be editing photos the screen should be at least decent I'd prefer a metal build but I could live with it being plastic. submitted by /u/Samo_Dimitrije [link] [comments] |

Gaming - $1000 USD budget Posted: 31 Oct 2021 08:37 PM PDT Hey all, thanks for stopping by for recommendations lol Anyway, my girlfriend and I are looking to exchange laptops for Christmas since we play together. We travel a fair bit so desktops just aren't in the picture. She plays Guild Wars 2 heavily and wants something capable of a min. 30-40 frames on highest settings. I don't know how power hungry gw2 is, so. Anything close is great. My preference is a bit different. I'm looking at something that can play most if not all modern games on higher or highest settings all the time, excluding obvious small frame drops or hiccups. Don't know if that's possible. I'd like to ideally play games like Elden Ring (when it's out), No Man's Sky, indie games, Resident Evil games, etc. So I have a bit of a higher need for a good processor and graphics card. And I think it's a given 8gb or more is necessary for both of ours. I used to be a huge AMD guy but I don't know anything about newer hardware so I'm a bit out of my league. Storage isn't an issue as long as the SSD is upgradeable. I found these laptops, unsure if they're good. Possiblity 1 Possiblity 2 Any help would be awesome, I'll be forever grateful. Haven't had time to play and really looking forward to it. submitted by /u/Not_That_Fast [link] [comments] |
When can we expect Alder Lake laptops? Posted: 31 Oct 2021 02:27 PM PDT ...and will they be worth waiting for, particularly in the high-end segment? I'm long overdue to replace ye olde Ivy Bridge Dell Latitude, and Windows 11 was the final nail in the coffin. There are several laptops on the market that should meet my requirements for a 15.6" gaming/workstation, but almost all are either backordered 2-6 months or unavailable for sale. I have a formidable desktop I can fall back on, but I would definitely have use for a more capable laptop in the here-and-now. Would it benefit me to wait it out, or should I just spring for whatever I can find? submitted by /u/Dragnerok_X [link] [comments] |
