Posted: 29 Nov 2021 08:03 PM PST Already asked this question but it was poorly phrased. I have a DSL cable coming from my wall. I have a WiFi router that needs WAN to operate. I know I need a 2nd device think it's called a modem (?) But can't find exactly what it where this device is. Internet strangers please help me; I don't have much time until I run out of time to return the router if needed. Photo of my profile of what I'm talking about. [link] [comments]
Bluetooth Headphones suddenly unable to connect Posted: 29 Nov 2021 09:08 AM PST Hello! I've been using the same bluetooth headphones with my PC for a while now and the last few days I havent been able to get them to connect. I've been doing basically everything there is to find online. I've done all the updates I could have done, I've reinstalled the bluetooth driver/audio driver/sound driver multiple times. I did a full scan on the computer to see if there was any threats, nothing. The headphones work fine on my phone, plus when I used a different pair of bluetooth headphones to connect to the PC, they also had the same issue. The issue is this. At first when I had the headphones paired it would just say "Connected" instead of say "Connected, sound" and this was in the Audio portion. One of the things recommended I could do to fix this would be to remove the device and pair it again, which I did. Everytime I pair the device everything is going smoothly, I click the pair button, I can see the device through my PC's bluetooth and it says the name of the headphones with a headphones picture, and underneath that it says "Audio". I'll click connect, and then it connects to audio for a second and then moves to "Other devices". So my headphones are connected, but not in the right spot so obviously I can't get any audio out of it because its not in the audio section, and then before then when it was in the audio section It still wouldn't connect. I've done seemingly everything I can at this point, I've updated the driver, rolled back the driver, updated windows, I did a pc health check, scanned for viruses, the PC's been restarted atleast 15 times now. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the sound drivers/audio drivers, and I'm trying to find something that might be able to help me but when looking all the guides are telling me the same things over and over again that I've already tried and didn't work. Does anyone here know what the issue could be? Why is all my bluetooth connected to the wrong area? Especially when it displays in the connection screen that its a bluetooth headset/audio? You'd think it would just accept it as audio instead of moving it to other devices, where its basically just taking up space and doing nothing. Also this just happened randomly, not as the result of any downloads, or any updates. It just happened a few days ago, I came home from work turned the PC on and was having the issue. Nothing was updated or downloaded beforehand, and as far as my PC is concerned I don't have any viruses. Thanks for your help [link] [comments]
Large unknown file taking up space on Galaxy A3. Posted: 29 Nov 2021 10:58 AM PST My mother's Galaxy A3 has been having issues with free space for a while now, despite there being no large files on it that could take up the space. I tried digging deeper with two apps, DiskUsage and X-plore and they both showed large files outside of userspace/internalstorage and system files with no further breakdown of what is actually there. The phone's own storage check doesn't show anything either, but it highlights the problem, as the breakdown doesn't add up to the actual total. The phone doesn't have a lot of storage so it's a fairly large problem. I thought of using an SD card, but that wouldn't free up a lot of space since less that 200MBs of photos and audio could be moved. If anyone has any idea for what the problem could be and how it could be fixed, I would be really grateful for the help. [link] [comments]

College Student needing advice regarding pc/laptop/tablet and storage/hardware Posted: 28 Nov 2021 11:48 PM PST Hey everyone, I'm a college student at Cal Poly SLO who needs some advice. For some background, I'm a computer science major concentrating in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Currently, I own a laptop (asus gl552vw) and a gaming pc I built 5ish years ago (1080ti, i7, 16 gigs). Right now, I'm using TeamViewer to transfer files/remote in from my laptop to my pc because I'm on university wifi. I don't ssh anymore because i assume I'd need to portforward? I'm looking at holiday deals and I'm thinking about updating my current tech situation. Issue #1: Is there a better way to access files (code, textbooks, pdfs, etc) from both my pc and my laptop? Can I make use of my pc's hardware from my laptop? Is the best way to use a service/vm like from google's cloud or aws or something? I honestly don't know a whole lot about all this, but I use to ssh into my pc from my laptop when I lived at home. Issue #2: Carrying my laptop around all day can be quite the hassle. It doesn't have good battery life (3-4 hours at the very max) so I have to carry the laptop and the charger around. Honestly, I write my notes by hand in all my classes (even cs classes), so it's probably not very necessary. I was planning on buying a slimmer laptop, but I'm scared this won't be powerful enough to run some of the neural networks and other ML/AI I work on. This isn't a problem tho if I can make use of my PC's gpu from anywhere (back to issue #1). My other idea is to get a tablet to take notes and write a little code on. Once again, if I can connect my pc, laptop, and tablet to all share files somehow (issue #1), then I'd feel a lot better about leaving my laptop at home when I know I won't need it. If this is the best situation, is the Samsung Tab S7 a good choice? I haven't had the best time with apple phones/tablets and windows/linux pc's. Issue #3 (low priority): My pc was running at like 98% of it's ram capacity. I checked the resource manager and there was the normal stuff like chrome and Firefox but there was also a McAfee program eating up most of the ram. I've temporarily disabled McAfee, but I'm on my dad's McAfee subscription and I would like to keep it. I do a lot of ram intensive stuff, so maybe I should upgrade from 16-32 gigs of ram? There's a good cyber Monday deal on Amazon that I might take advantage of. Sorry for the long post. If anyone has any advice, I would love to hear it in the comments or a dm. Also, sorry for such a short notice, but I would like to take advantage of the cyber Monday deals tomorrow. I hate spending money (I rarely buy anything), so if there are any cheap solutions I'm all ears. Laptop: Asus ROG GL552VW Tablet: Samsung Tab S7 Ram: Cyber Monday Ram [link] [comments]
2015 MacBook Pro - Freezing Intermittently Posted: 28 Nov 2021 05:33 PM PST Hey guys, I have a 2015 MacBook Pro that freezes intermittently. Did the SMC and PRAM Resets, Performed a hardware check via Apples built in diagnostics system (passed everything), even went as far as backing up data and reinstalling MacOS in case there was corrupt system files messing up the system somehow. Oh, and I did that "yes" command trick in terminal to max out the processor - Computer was acting perfectly fine through all of that. But it will still intermittently freeze, the mouse like teleports to different positions instead of flowing through with movement, the screen will freeze up as well… etc. Again, it passed all hardware diag tests. I'm thinking maybe the GPU On the motherboard is on its way out or maybe it's an intermittently failing processor? Hard drive is perfectly fine too. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! Laptop stuck trying to install an update for Windows 11 Posted: 28 Nov 2021 05:02 PM PST I just bought a new laptop which is updated to Windows 11. Everything was working great up until today. There was a small, 4-minute update and after I completed it was still there (or if it was another small update? No idea). I therefore started it again and now it has been stuck for ages and I can't find a way to complete or exit it. It is also turning my laptop extremely hot, whereas it has not had any overheating issues before this.
