- Fix or Reinstall?
- Tech utility / tool to retrieve a WMI value from an offline disk image?
- Simple Backup software
Posted: 18 Aug 2021 08:42 AM PDT Hi all, I've been using CCleaner for more than 10 yrs and it does a pretty good cleanup job, despite the 2 supplier attacks in the near past and having more usless, spyware-like, annoying features. I don't use it for anything else except cleanup registry, files and uninstall Windows UWP apps on-demand. Is there a good alternative to CCleaner, free or commercial, that I can use? Thank you. Posted: 18 Aug 2021 02:13 PM PDT I'm just wondering what the prevailing opinion is here regarding whether it's better to just fix or reinstall an OS after viruses/malware/spyware or some other form of corruption. I think both options have their place but I lean slightly more towards the reinstall option because I know how long it takes and long term, the customer's PC will be less likely to have an issue relating to instability. Tech utility / tool to retrieve a WMI value from an offline disk image? Posted: 18 Aug 2021 07:43 AM PDT This has come up a few times in the past but it's not been overly important, but presently I have a higher level of interest in doing this if possible; I have non bootable Windows image (vmdk file) that I would like to retrieve the IdentifyingNumber value from. I can browser the folder structure of the OS image but not boot into it right now. ( compressed bootmgr error) The equivalent of what you would get output from a running system if you did a query of: OR do you have another suggestion for how to effectively gather this data in a different way, such as event logs or other system files that I may not be taking into account by focusing on the wmi method? Any suggestions on tools / utilities that you may have used to do this would be greatly appreciated TiA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Aug 2021 04:12 PM PDT Hi Guys, I help support a small company of 8 users. I currently backup their dropbox data to Backblaze which seems to work pretty well. However, I wanted a backup to USB drive solution. Ideally I encrypt the external drive with bitlocker and then take backups Mon-Friday. I used Paragon backups in the past but wanted to see if anyone else had suggestions. It can be freeware or paid as long as its not something super expensive or complex. I esesntially just need to run backups from c:\users to an external encrypted drive. [link] [comments] |
