Posted: 29 Oct 2021 12:22 AM PDT Original changelog & download: https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/releases/tag/v0.49.0 The v0.49 release cycle introduces exciting new updates primarily centered around modernizing PowerRename's UI, adding a brand new mouse utility, and merging Video Conference Mute into the stable releases! PowerRename's new UI brings a refreshed experience that reflects the modern UI theming of Windows 11, along with helpful regular expression guidance and file formatting tips. With the new mouse utility, PowerToys introduces functionality to quickly find your mouse position by double pressing the left <kbd>ctrl</kbd> key. This is ideal for large, high-resolution displays and low-vision users, with additional features and enhancements planned for future releases. Special thanks to Raymond Chen for providing the base code PowerToys used to develop this feature. To learn more, check out our Mouse Utilities documentation on Microsoft Docs! As Video Conference Mute becomes available in the stable releases, there are still known bugs that we are actively working to address. These bugs are tracked on our GitHub, and we welcome any and all feedback as we work to isolate and resolve the cause. Additionally, Color Picker's HEX format will no longer have the Additional work in this release include stability updates and optimizations, installer updates, general bug fixes, and accessibility improvements. Does anyone else absolutely despise the modern Windows UI design? Posted: 29 Oct 2021 04:26 AM PDT I believe Microsoft completely stopped caring about functional user interface ever since Windows 8. The issue I take is that they still have their tablet UI design fetish going strong ever since 2012, and they show no signs of stopping. Whatever happened to a proper UI that is actually designed for desktop computers and laptops alike? Windows 7 was the last Windows release that had such proper UI. Isn't it hilarious how an unsupported OS from 2009 *still* has a more sensible UI than whatever tablet-desktop hybrid UI abominations that Microsoft are putting out nowadays? Sure, third party tools exist, but isn't it ridiculous in the first place that we have to resort to these tools that sometimes you even have to pay for? I miss Windows 7 UI design, everything made sense and it was actually designed for desktops and laptops. Sure, it introduced the combined icons, but going back to uncombined was very easy. Windows 10 UI is only 50% there, and we see that Windows 11 just ruined it all and went back to square one with the touchscreens-first design. Sure, it has eye candy - but is it truly an upgrade to usability? People say to just switch to Linux if I hate the current state of Windows so much, but Linux is a tool that has its own advantages and disadvantages just like any other OS - sometimes, Windows ends up being the better tool for the job. TL;DR: ffs Microsoft, stop trying to turn my desktop computer into a tablet. [link] [comments]

Is it possible to have a dark mode button? Posted: 29 Oct 2021 05:14 PM PDT Like on android, is it possible to have a button to switch from light mode to dark mode easily (maybe like by having it alongside the wifi, bluetooth ecc. section) instead of having to go to settings every single time which is very annoying? I have a ryzen cpu and I heard that their performance was affected by windows 11, is that still the case? Is there anything else that would affect performance I should know about? Posted: 29 Oct 2021 04:19 PM PDT The best window is a clear one. You can see right through it, and in the best circumstances (visually speaking) you shouldn't even notice it. Microsoft seems not to understand this, or perhaps doesn't care. IMO, the best operating system should be like a window, invisible unless particularly investigated. I don't buy a computer because I am excited to run windows; I run windows so I can do other things. Why is it then, microsoft keeps trying to make the operating system more "in your face" trying to do things and be in the way? It's no wonder users get so pissed off with windows, and I don't understand why microsoft doesn't see this. For example, repeatedly herding users into Edge browser is no way to make people happy about a product. Edge could be the best browser in the universe and people would still resent it for being forced into it. Microsoft needs to take a "Shut up and get out of the Way" philosophy with windows and they might find users begin appreciate their products. Imagine in Google maps if every time you entered directions to go eat out, it would default the location to mcdonalds and ask if you want to set it permanently, for your convenience of course. The fact that Win-key performs both a computer search and internet search is a good example. If I wanted to "Google" something, I would have done so, but I was wanting to search my computer, not the whole internet, and I def wasn't wanting to search on Bing. I feel as though this focus on making more money off of users by herding them into other products is going to cost Microsoft users in the long run. What are your thoughts on this? Is Windows Subsystem for Android able to be installed on Windows 10 in any way? Posted: 29 Oct 2021 10:13 AM PDT Surely Windows 11 is just a reskin of Windows 10 so surely you can make everything be available, right? If not, I'll just use BlueStacks, but I'm getting sick of it alright. [link] [comments]

Dragging a window from one monitor to another Posted: 28 Oct 2021 10:55 PM PDT I have one monitor in landscape mode and the other in portrait mode. When I drag a window from one of these monitors the alignment is not correct when I cross the dragging window in the middle of these two monitors. How can the Alignment be adjusted correctly and is it the intended way of how windows does it? [link] [comments]
What is this weird unknown sound effect coming from my Windows 10 laptop? Posted: 29 Oct 2021 03:24 AM PDT Hello. Does anybody know what is this sound effect stands for? which sounds like a warning. https://v3.fastupload.co/file/8432 (mp3 file, recorded straight from my laptop's microphone) I don't know but it may come from something inside Windows 10. BACKSTORY: This has happened for a few days when I was in class/lecture. I was first not aware of it thinking it just came from another laptop around me, but whenever that sound emits, it was very close to my laptop. And sometimes some will complain about the sound coming from my laptop, so I started thinking of it actually emitting from my laptop, the strange thing was, my laptop was muted (like it shows a cross on the volume icon in the taskbar). It is not happening at all while I'm at home (no headphones are plugged in). The sound effect just came out randomly with no regular time interval. Besides, the only programs that were running when that sound emits were file explorer, Drawboard PDF, OneNote for Windows 10, and Photo. I was doing ordinary tasks (typing, scrolling through PDFs) only. No popups were popped while that sound emits nor Windows Update was ongoing. Browsers like Edge were not open at all. So I have genuinely no clue where did that sound come from and it bothers me quite a lot... [link] [comments] |
