Examples of questions suitable for here:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Picked up a 3080 for MSRP at best buy this morning, only had to camp out 15 hours total.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 06:35 AM PDT

Suck it scalpers. I can finish my build now. Fargo, ND store had 60 people by midnight, but i got there at 5:15pm and was 4th in line. I had planned on buying the 3070 originally, but due to all the salt i received when asking about the 3080 i figured that HAS to be the one to get. Now rage downvote me, im going to bed. I couldnt sleep cause some asshole kept smoking cigarettes IN the line all night. Didnt even move out to the parking lot.

Newegg Shuffle is basically scalper prices

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:15 AM PDT

The prices used to be a good deal, albeit over msrp, but now they're ridiculous. They make you get a bundle with some overpriced shit no one wants to buy, and then still charge you a fortune for the card too. Today on the shuffle there is a 3070 Ti for $1000, and two 3080's for $1200. I thought this was supposed to be a way to avoid scalper prices.

do not cheap out on your power supply!!!

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 08:43 PM PDT

i had a strict budget of 1k when i was building my pc and i had the choice of having a decent power supply and decent graphics card or a shitty power supply and great graphics card and i chose the wrong option🤦🏾‍♂️ while i was on fortnite my power supply started exploding and sparks were coming out and it tripped the fuse trip😂 so just paying an extra 40$ on a good psu could've saved my entire 1k rig.

edit: not 100% sure if its fully done or not but i'm going to order a new psu tomorrow. any recommendations for a 500-600 watt power supply?

Finally snagged a 3070ti for msrp. Needed to share my excitement.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 03:18 PM PDT

Just as the title says, I finally have managed to secure a 3070ti at MSRP from bestbuy and I'm literally shaking. Took my pc apart 3 days ago to make room/situate for its arrival. So excited! Hang in there friends, they do exist!

Check my rig: Mid-range Gaming computer

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 12:26 PM PDT

    Hello all!

First post here and it is of the garden variety type. Just wondering if the smart folks on this forum could look over the components for my next gaming rig and confirm that it will all work. Also, could you identify any component that will underperform or limit the performance of the total system? I have some room in my budget to upgrade if need be.

Component substitution advice is welcome! (But I am going with Intel/nVidia)

    Thanks in advance!

    AIO liquid temperature too low?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 10:23 AM PDT

My CPU is running at 85° during cinebench benchmark and I'm worried that the AIO isn't cooling it properly. Liquid temperature is 33° only and that's the only thing concerning me because I think it should be higher to cool the CPU better? Someone tell me the expected liquid temperature and if my cooler is fine please.

Specs: 5900x CPU with PBO enabled NZXT Kraken X63 280mm AIO Great airflow case

All fans and aio pump are running at max speed

    1650 or wait it out

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 05:34 AM PDT

As this is my first build, I wanted to get a decently nice budget pc. I was trying to go for a MSRP 3060ti but I've learned over the past 5 months, that ain't happening for a while. I was looking around and saw a 1650 for around $400. Should I buy it and have a functioning pc? Or should I try and wait it out.

    Check Build Compatibility/Suggestions

I'm planning to build a higher-end gaming PC to mine with during off-times, that could be used for dedicated mining down the road (2-5 years) and was wondering if the CPU/Mobo setup can handle 2 or 3 GPU's. AFAIK it can run 2 at PCIE x16 and then one at x4 (much slower)...is that correct? Are there other options such as other Mobos that could fit with the 5900x?

Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

As a first timer, should I buy a prebuilt PC and build off of that once supply gets better or should I try to build one?

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 03:04 PM PDT

I've done a bunch of research and watched videos so I have an idea on how to build one and what all the parts are for but it seems like I'd be better off just buying a decent $1500-1800 PC to start and then build once better parts become available. Bad move?

Computer Freezing (Unresponsive to restart, -1% GPU utilization)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 02:30 PM PDT

    Specs:

    • Case - Cooler Master MasterBox MB511
    • PSU - Corsair RM 2019 750W 80+ Gold
    • GPU - ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 TUF GAMING OC
    • CPU - Ryzen 5 5600x
    • CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212
    • Motherboard - ASUS TUF B550-PLUS
    • Memory - G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4-3600 CL16
    • Storage - WD Blue SN550

Only thing that I changed in the BIOS is that I enabled DOCP. This changed the frequency to 3600MHz (it did this automatically when I enabled DOCP, I did not manually adjust the frequency/voltage) where it has been since I built (March 2021).

    The problem:

Recently, my computer will suddenly "freeze" up where audio still works, but the computer is noticeably less responsive. This results in me being unable to close certain applications (such as Chrome) even though I click the "X". Other issues that I notice with this is that I am unable to go Start -> restart as pressing it won't actually restart my computer. Lastly, I can open up task manager and it shows my GPU utilization at -1%.

Looking at other threads, I see NZXT Cam as a commonly suggested issue. I do not have NZXT Cam installed and the only recent addition to my computer slightly before these issues came up is Origin. Additionally, I have looked at Windows Event Viewer, and the only critical error is Kernel Power Event ID 41 (63), which I think is because I held down the power button to restart the computer (since clicking restart was unresponsive).

These issues have been happening infrequently and seemingly without any reason. One time is was after I exited a game (Valorant) and went to close Discord. Another time it was when I was closing Chrome.

I'm a bit of a computer novice, so please bear with me as I try to answer your questions.

    Braided cables

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 12:11 PM PDT

    Ho!

I've had my PC built for about a month or so now and she's a beauty. if you ignore the rats nest at the rear, but no-one can see that so hey ho. Anyway, I'm considering getting some Corsair braided cables for my CPU, PSU and GPU, nice and simple.

Anyone had major issues putting new cables in a build that's already built? Also a side note anyone got recommendations for a GPU bracket for a Powercolour 6700xt?

    Cheers

    Upgrade from i5-6600K / RTX970

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 01:39 PM PDT

    Hi guys

I was looking forward to wipe the dust of my pc and play new World this Week.

But it seems my pc is not good enough anymore. The game crashes after like 30 min. The same happens with Overwatch. 100% CPU Usage with Temps around 80°C

I have a zotax rtx 970, i5-6600K, asus hero maximus VIII, 1TB SSD and some Watercooling.

I plan on upgrade CPU and graphicard to a i7-7700 and a zotac RTX 3080.

I would like to ask for your thoughts on these upgrades. Or if someone has another idea, i'm open for all advice. Thanks in advance.

CPU Cooler is blocking 2 RAM slots

    Posted: 01 Oct 2021 01:14 PM PDT

Disclaimer 1: The original PC is prebuilt as it was easier at the time to get hold of a 30** GPU. I tried to upgrade it myself but if that doesn't fit this sub rules please let me know.

Disclaimer 2: I'm a complete noob in the matter, I tried looking up what I could but still have a hard time grasping it.

So I tried to upgrade my CPU cooler as it was running really hot with the original cooler (80° on small games) and went for a scyhte fuma 2. Now the thermals are much better (more than 20° below). Unfortunately, the CPU cooler covers 2 RAM slots so that my RAM sticks are on slots B1 and B2 (I can't attach pic for some reasons). From what I understand from my research online this is bad.

    My questions are :

    - how bad? Does it make one of the ram stick useless?

    - Is it possible to change the CPU cooler orientation and/or make it less large?

    - Do I need to look for another cooler? If so which one would be best?

For information, the motherboard is a ASUS Strix b560 a gaming wifi and the CPU is an i7-11700KF and the RAM stick are 2 corsair 16gb 3200

Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!
