| 6" and under Mid-Range Phones? Posted: 02 Sep 2021 01:51 PM PDT Looking for a new phone for my father and looking for something smaller with a big battery. Looking for something without lag, but it doesn't have to perform to the point of playing Genshin; just something that he can switch between apps without the thing freezing up. I actually just put an order in for a Nord N100 at Amazon for $130 since it was such a good price (might've been a pricing error since it shot back up to $180 while I was still in checkout, but was still able to get the $130 price in), but it'll probably just end up going back since I'm expecting him to not like the size. For whatever reason it seems like most phones are really big nowadays. Anyways, for price point, around $200 is what I'm looking for. [link] [comments]  |
| app to Split Up 4 Gig Files For Easier Transfer? Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:26 PM PDT If I record a video with my phone, and it's long, it can get up to 4 gb. Then I need to transfer it to my PC. I've been using BitTorrent Sync for years (now Resilio Sync) and have used it to transfer large files... but now I"m in a house where Sync just takes all day to do that. I have no control over the wifi network here. Uploading (from phone) to Google Drive, and then downloading back again (to pc) is actually faster for some reason. But sometimes getting the whole 4 gig file up to Drive is problematic. I'll bet it would be easier for the OS to work with if it were split up. And I"m not necessarily talking about dividing it up into valid vids. Just something that could be reassembled by the PC is needed. But I do have a vid concatenation utility that could easily bring them all together if they were separate vid clips. If it were split up, then maybe even using a file transfer utility that has the FTP wireless connection might become a valid alternative. Or maybe a data transfer via USB cable would be more reliable too. Both of these methods seem to balk at the super large file. I've seen apps that split up big files, but it looks like you have to have the same app on two android devices. I'm looking to transfer from Android phone to PC. So maybe splitting up into something non-proprietary would be best. I've also seen a small device that starts up its own wireless network, and that might be an option too. Maybe with it being closer, transfer speeds and reliability would be good enough for Sync to work better. [link] [comments]  |

| Data folder in Android phone unaccessible Posted: 02 Sep 2021 02:47 PM PDT I've been trying to download plugins for theotown but I can't move them to the plugins folder because the data folder is unaccessible, not even with the built in file explorer thing... I know it's just one game that has anything to do with it but it's still a VERY annoying problem... I have one of those moto phones but idk what exact design or build. I'm assuming "carrier" means the company that makes it. Also this just started the other day and I have no idea how to fix it. There's nothing in settings about it. Also I'm not sure if this is helpful but on some of my file apps it shows but says "can not read" when I try to open the folder. [link] [comments]  |
| Google assistant without internet connection Posted: 02 Sep 2021 12:46 PM PDT Hello there. My phone is Samsung S7 Edge on Android 7. I have been using Google Assistant intermittently and I was always able to use functions such as "make a call", "set a reminder", "set an alarm clock" without internet connection in the past. Later on, some functions such as "set a reminder" stopped working offline but the others were still usable. Now, nothing works. No matter what, I get a message to turn on the wifi. Of course, with wifi or data on everything works fine. If I am correct, google has opted for the "always online" model even for simple commands that do not need internet, which is deplorable. Unless of course I am missing a setting somewhere. Has anyone found a way to circumvent this? [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:11 PM PDT I don't mind the hole punch when I'm just scrolling through Reddit or whatever I happen to be doing, but I find it really distracting in landscape mode when watching YouTube. I permanently hide it through developer options, but it just seems like wasted screen real estate, when I really only want it hidden when viewing media in landscape, does such an application exist that could facilitate this? | Samsung Galaxy a51 wifi problems Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:07 PM PDT Running Android 11, all updates Carrier is ATT My home wifi router is an ASUS RT-ACRH17 plugged in behind an ATT DSL modem/router I've got a few Linux machines streaming to my apple tv, Roku, and phone. The router is stable, I can background a ping to Google and it never misses but I can be streaming a video to my phone or logged in via ssh (juicessh app) and all of the sudden wifi drops, the phone falls back to 4g cellular data and then bounces right back up on wifi. Literally just enough to kill ssh or three video. Plex will keep working but if I'm using VLC via samba to preview videos it will break the connection and stop VLC. Or I can be idle, writing a post on reddit and nothing else and it drops and then reconnects. I've used the "reset network" in settings, wiped the cache from the boot loader, tried tweaking on the wifi channels but nothing has made a difference. I can be connected for 20 minutes and it drops or I can be connected for 30 seconds on either 2.4 and 5ghz. I've read some people saying there can be some interference between Bluetooth and wifi, still happens with Bluetooth disabled. This has gotten dramatically worse with the most recent Samsung /ATT ota update. Short of doing a factory reset, I'm looking for suggestions. [link] [comments]  |

| Messages not sending out notifications at all Posted: 02 Sep 2021 03:31 PM PDT So I got a Pixel 4A a few days ago and for some reason i cannot get text notifications from the default "Messages" app. the OS, app and everything are all up to date and the app has all the permissions to display notifications while in lock, as well as sound. Do not Disturb is turned off. Silent is turned off. I cleared the cache, restarted my phone, and it's still not working. I can't seem to find any solutions online that I haven't already tried. Edit: I've seen the "incoming messages" settings trick but I do not even have that as a menu option in the apps settings. It's not there. [link] [comments]  |
| How to disable these features in Chrome Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:04 PM PDT There's this new drawer looking popup thing that tries to get you to install the app version of a product when you go to the web version. I think this might just be twitter right now, it's similar to what some pages like reddit do- which is still annoying, but at least in that case it looks less invasive & shuts up for a while after the first time I dismiss it. This new one pops up 100% of the time when I load the page and I have to swipe it away, it's super annoying. Wondering if anyone knows how to disable this? [link] [comments]  |

I purchased it unlocked, and it still came locked. I got a report from WipeLock to find out the carrier and this was the result: Country Code: PA I cannot find this carrier for the life of me, and none of the unlocking services have it listed. (xiaomi mi9) Posted: 02 Sep 2021 02:06 PM PDT This might be a stupid question, but I bought a cheap lcd replacement screen for my Xiaomi mi9 that I just connected to the to phone in order to see what I was doing (so I didnt replace the original screen, just disconnected it and connected the replacement while its just hanging off basically) I'm trying to regain full access to a crypto wallet, and unfortunately I was stupid enough to use fingerprint lock on it, which doesn't work on the broken screen. (The touch on the old screen works in general, but fingerprint doesn't). I am not actually planning on replacing the screen fully, the phone will be recycled after I've been able to unlock the wallet. So if I was to get to the fingerprint scanner as it is under the screen would unlock if I were to use my finger on it without the screen? Thanks! Posted: 02 Sep 2021 05:19 AM PDT Android ends applications that fall too far in background for an obvious good purpose: Making space for new ones. However, I would like to exempt QuickEdit (text editor) from auto-closure. When I tap the app icon to recall it after an auto-closure, I get greeted with a white blank splash screen that hurts eyes in darkness even at lowest brightness, and it needs five seconds to recover the session, which gets highly annoying upon repetition, as it interferes with workflow.
