Original Windows 10's W365 wallpaper. Interesting how when MS chose to rebrand Windows, they made a few tweaks to the late-2018 Windows default wallpaper.

Is there a way to move windows when you hold down the windows/super key like in most linux wms?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:27 PM PDT

One thing that's annoying me on windows is that I can't just hold down the super key and resize/move windows but instead have to click the titlebar. Is there a way to do this in windows?

Is it worth to upgrade from windows home to windows education?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:02 PM PDT

I bought a computer that came with windows home. My university provides Windows Education for free, so I am wondering if it is worth the upgrade. What are the pros and cons?

Announcing the general availability of Windows 365

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:10 AM PDT

What if they removed support for 32 bit in Windows 11? Who even uses 32 bit on anymore? Maybe they should scrap it and just focus on 64 bits?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 03:07 PM PDT

Hey guys. I was wondering how would you react if they scrapped 32 bits and focused on 64 bits. I think it would be great, since nobody uses 32 bits anymore. Would you disagree?

How to get BIOS SerialNumber using GUI tool wbemtest?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 04:20 AM PDT

I know this can be accomplish with wmic command.

    E.g.

    c:\> wmic bios get serialnumber

I just want to know the alternative in GUI built-in tool which is wbemtest.

I've followed the steps given from this blog,

    https://michlstechblog.info/blog/windows-get-a-device-serial-number-from-command-line/

    1. Run wbemtest
    2. connect to the root\cimv2 namespace
    3. Run the query

    select SerialNumber from Win32_BIOS

Instead of getting serial number, I'm getting

    Win32_BIOS=<no key>

    What's wrong in this case?

How stable is Ext2Fsd to you?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:14 AM PDT

I have been tinkering with Ext2Fsd for a while now. I didn't found any problem with it so far even with Ext4 drives. So you noticed some problems with it like corrupting data or doing something weird?
The reason im asking is because WSL is eating all of my memory and a lot of slowdowns for no apparent reasons.

Is Windows 11 going to be a good OS?

Windows 11 running on Celeron N3050

    Hello,

I have installed windows 11 on my Dell Inspiron 15 3552 laptop with Intel Celeron N3050 , 4GB RAM , 500GB HDD and Intel HD graphics , also with TPM 2.0 . It works fine except the fact that win11 has a lot of animations , which , can slow the system at times . Plus I'm able to run Roblox better than it did on win10 . So far other apps are working like as it did with win10 . I'm going to provide feedback to Microsoft in feedback hub after a few days of testing . There is one issue though , even though i selected "Play windows startup sound" , the sound does not play during the startup or a restart .MS should know that this CPU can run win11 .

P.S im in beta channel and this laptop is my daily driver .

Just finished all updates in the office - all default apps have been changed to MS apps.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:34 AM PDT

LOUD AND CLEAR - If you ram your apps in down my throat, I will be less likely to want to use them.

What happened to the good old days, when people used apps because they added value, rather than because some huge corp constantly harasses us to use them?

There no reason, other than 'by design', that updating the OS should be allowed to interfere with the freedom to choose a custom configuration. This kind of guerilla marketing is only going to lead to less updating and less trust - just stop it already.

If your product cannot make it on merit alone, the fault does not lie with me.

what are the security feautures that are present in windows 11 and not in windows 10? does windows 11 support intel virtualisation or amd svm (virtualisation)?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:59 AM PDT

can you tell me what security windows 11 have more than windows 10?

i have a pc with secureboot, uefi , tpm 2.0 , intel 6th gen processor.

in windows 10 i can turn on hvci core isolation (memory integrity). i have secure boot anf uefi.

windows 11 have same security feautures too. of course windows 11 have some more feautures but if we only consider security feautures then are there any more security feautures than windows 10?

i agree that if i run windows 10 with tpm 1.2 then windows 11 have more security since it only runs with tpm 2.0. but if i run windows 10 with tpm 2.0 and turned on other feautures like core isolation (memory integrity) , hvci, device gaurd then whats the difference only regarding security? i think both are same. reply if i am wrong.

moreover, some applications use virtualisation technology to run. without intel virtualisation or amd svm (virtualisation) they cannot run.

    1. virtualbox or vmware
    2. android studio's avd emulator
    3. android emulators like bluestacks

    and more which use virtualisation.

but in windows 11 by default hvci is enabled and memory isolation is enabled. these two require hyper v. so hyperv also enabled. here is reference

    windows 11 device security

it states "Raising the security baseline to meet the evolving threat landscape. This next generation of Windows will raise the security baseline by requiring more modern CPUs, with protections like virtualization-based security (VBS), hypervisor-protected code integrity (HVCI), and Secure Boot built-in and enabled by default to protect from both common malware, "

of course these feautures are avilable in windows 10.

    see this

    windows 10 hvci

    windows 10 device security

but what's deferent is we can turn them off. but in windows 11 these are enabled by default.

and on my windows 11 pc with ryzen zen 3, tpm 2.0, secureboot and all requirements i disabled these hvci and hyper v but amd svm (virtualisation) is not available. !!! it is turned on in bios but in windows 11 i cannot use virtualisation.

windows 11 is still in beta. i will wait till relese but i don't think it will enable vurualisation. because hvci and hyper v enabled by default. i also doubt microsoft will provide option to disable these.

if microsoft dont provide option to disable these then its a problem for some users. ( now i disbled them through registery editor but if microsoft wants it can remove that option from registary editor)

here is bluestacks post which says to turn off hvci

    bluestacks

virtualbox also needs hyperv to disable. but if hvci and core isolation (memory integrity) are enabled they need hyper v enabled. otherwise they will be disabled.

will windows 11 support virtualisation other than hyper v?

please answer me if i am wrong.
