We should get a Hybrid-centered mode. Posted: 29 Aug 2021 01:53 PM PDT Fitts law-friendly Windows Button, esthetic pleasing apps Fitts law is a UI law that basically says that the corners of a screen are the easiest to point to, because they (kinda) have an infinite area. Everything that is not in a corner or in the exact middle of the screen will be harder to hit. If you agree with me, you can go vote on here. [link] [comments]

Russian game can ONLY be installed and played on russian version of windows Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:24 AM PDT So here is how i discovered it. I used to play a russian game about 10 years ago (cd game), and i wanted to try and play it again, thing is, after installing it (on regular windows 10), a lot on assets has been missing from the game, i thought that the cd was corrupted or something, so i downloaded the game online, but to my surprise, the setup was not working at all, with the error "not enought disk space" which was weird because i had 100gb spare, even tried running different setups on different pcs, with different error messages, even tried extracting the bin files / burn them to iso, but the programs didn't even recognise them as .bin files. It was odd, because i played the game normally while i was in Belarus 10 years ago, so i thought its maybe the operating system, i was so driven to make this game work that i tried to install a russian version of windows on a virtual machine, but guess what, IT ACTUALLY WORKED. The setup was successful, and game was 100% installed with no missing assets, the weirdest thing is, when i move the installed version of the game from russian windows to regular, the game buggs out wirh missing assets. So my theory is that the game was made on a russian windows operating system, which has a different file path system or registry or something. Does anyone has any idea about the difference between the russian and english operating system ? I couldn't find any information about it on the internet. [link] [comments]

Windows 11 system requirements. Why Microsoft is doing like this? Posted: 29 Aug 2021 03:27 AM PDT Windows 11 supports i7 7820hq only because of surface studio 2 I think. Because they left all other 7th gen processors and even amd Zen 1. i7 7700k can run windows 11 if i7 7820hq can. But Microsoft not providing support for i7 7700k. I am not satisfied with the decision. Microsoft said you can install windows 11 on unsupported hardware with iso but Microsoft will not give any support, updates , even no security fixes for those systems. That means Even you installed on unsupported hardware. you can't update via windows update. The only way to update is manually download and install. But again what about drivers? Mainly GPU drivers. The vendor will not provide support for windows 11 as Microsoft is not providing. So when you update programs if any glitches or display problems or blue screen you don't get any patch from Microsoft or vendor. So it keeps crashing and in worst case you may loose all your data.( Of course you can use data recovery afterwards) but my point is running like that will give you very bad experience. So actually Microsoft didn't change requirements much. Only added one 7th gen cpu which is in surface studio 2 and a few 8th gen CPUs. can you tell me what security windows 11 have more than windows 10? i have a pc with secureboot, uefi , tpm 2.0 , intel 6th gen processor. in windows 10 i can turn on hvci core isolation (memory integrity). i have secure boot anf uefi. windows 11 have same security feautures too. of course windows 11 have some more feautures but if we only consider security feautures then are there any more security feautures than windows 10? i agree that if i run windows 10 with tpm 1.2 then windows 11 have more security since it only runs with tpm 2.0. but if i run windows 10 with tpm 2.0 and turned on other feautures like core isolation (memory integrity) , hvci, device gaurd then whats the difference only regarding security? i think both are same. reply if i am wrong. Moreover windows 11 enable hvci and VBS by default. This means hyper v is enabled. So intel virtual technology is disabled. The apps such as virtualbox and VMware which depend on intel virtual technology will not work. And Android emulators such as BlueStacks and nox too. Ofcourse Microsoft Store has Android apps but Android games will not be available because developers never put them in store. Keymapping like in BlueStacks is not available. What about Android studio's emulator AVD? It also uses intel or amd virtual technology only. windows 11 by default hvci is enabled and memory isolation is enabled. these two require hyper v. so hyperv also enabled. here is reference it states "Raising the security baseline to meet the evolving threat landscape. This next generation of Windows will raise the security baseline by requiring more modern CPUs, with protections like virtualization-based security (VBS), hypervisor-protected code integrity (HVCI), and Secure Boot built-in and enabled by default to protect from both common malware, " of course these feautures are avilable in windows 10. see this but what's deferent is we can turn them off. but in windows 11 these are enabled by default. and on my windows 11 pc with ryzen zen 3, tpm 2.0, secureboot and all requirements i disabled these hvci and hyper v but amd svm (virtualisation) is not available. !!! it is turned on in bios but in windows 11 i cannot use virtualisation. because hvci and hyper v enabled by default. i also doubt microsoft will provide option to disable these. if microsoft dont provide option to disable these then its a problem for some users. ( now i disbled them through registery editor but no use virtual technology is not working) Moreover by enabling hvci and core isolation (memory integrity) your cpu PERFORMANCE decreases. Why should I enable them which cost performance? I can simply use an antivirus. here is bluestacks post which says to turn off hvci virtualbox also needs hyperv to disable. but if hvci and core isolation (memory integrity) are enabled they need hyper v enabled. otherwise they will be disabled. will windows 11 support virtualisation other than hyper v? I don't know. [link] [comments]

[Rant] How has the sound menu in Windows progressively gotten worse?! Posted: 28 Aug 2021 08:27 PM PDT This is probably going to be disjointed and rambling. I'm unreasonably upset at how poorly microsoft handles sound devices. The sound menu peaked here. You have all your sound devices, it's easy to see which is default and communications, and you can see the configurations and properties for each. From Windows 10 onward, managing sound devices in Windows is awful. I don't even bother using whatever menu comes up when I right click the taskbar, I just use eartrumpet to have easy access to the legacy playback device menu. And as if it couldn't get any worse, Windows 11. Where do I set a different default and communications output here? Right, I need to open each device individually and see which one has "Set as default sound device" set to "default," and which one is set to "communications." I want to check if my Dolby Atmos speakers are set correctly? Tough shit, apparently. I have no fucking clue how to see whether side speakers are enabled or disabled, and no fucking way to check which speakers have full range enabled. Do you know how you go back into those advanced settings? This fucking button right here, which just opens up the fucking legacy playback/recording devices menu. I don't understand, Microsoft. Why even design a new UI element if it just opens up the old one? Why not just take all the functionality of the old sound devices menu, and put it in a new, modern looking menu. Posted: 29 Aug 2021 12:49 AM PDT Are there any advantages to updating to Windows 11, and if so do they outweigh the disadvantages? Almost everything I've heard about the update sounds discouraging or unpleasant. What I dislike most is how difficult it makes running the browser of your choice. [link] [comments]

Is it possible for someone to make a windows 10 gangster edition? Posted: 29 Aug 2021 11:52 AM PDT
Posted: 28 Aug 2021 11:13 PM PDT Hi all, I will be getting a Dell XPS 13 (9310) soon (i7-1185G7). I'm familiar with the power slider, but as I have been on macOS for the past 3-4 years, I haven't really paid much thought to it. Really what I am curious is how it affects day to day use a modern CPU. I understand battery saver for when you're low on battery as well as flat out performance mode for when you're plugged in, but I'm curious as to what changes in the "better battery" and "better performance" intermediate settings? How does it achieve this, and as people in the know, how much of an impact do these changes really have on the performance or battery life of a laptop? For example in "better battery" do you find it compromises on performance too much or on "better performance" battery drains noticeably faster? Given how fast modern CPUs are for standard productivity and multitasking workloads, I would take a guess that even on better battery, I shouldn't notice any lag, but since battery life is not always a given, it's better to err on the side of "better battery" if I don't have my charger on me. Thanks everyone! [link] [comments]
Why does the Paint 3D app receive so much hate. Posted: 28 Aug 2021 09:31 PM PDT I have seen all over the internet how everyone hates Paint 3d. I don't get whats so bad about it. Its 3d capabilities are below industry standards but its superior to the default paint in almost every way according to me. Its brushes feel very nice and it supports the alpha channel. It also has a lot of shapes that we can draw with. I think the 3d capabilities of paint 3d should be looked at as just another feature and it should not receive so much hate just because it cant do 3d very well. [link] [comments] |
