Why Microsoft removed the Aero cursor from the Windows installation screen?

Why Microsoft removed the Aero cursor from the Windows installation screen?

    Windows 7 installation screen

Windows 10 installation screen: the cursor is from Classic theme

I never understood this. Also, for some reason Microsoft removed the animated cursor support in the Windows 8 installation screen. Anyone knows the reason?

I'm now on the beta channel of windows 11, will I get the update to windows 11 when it launches to the public or do I need to do a clean install of windows to get the public version. Hope someone knows, cuase i have lots of important files and don't want to do a clean install, thank you.

    Spellcheck right click suggestions

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:30 PM PDT

I just recently switched from Mac to windows and I was wondering if windows has some thing when a word is misspelled and red underlined you can right click it and get options of what to switch it to? Or anything similar where when a word is already misspelled it can help you fix it. I am so bad at spelling pls help.

How to upgrade back to Windows 10.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 08:29 AM PDT

    Hello all,

Microsoft recently announced that they will not be offering updates to old hardware.

I guess my trusty i7 7700k is now considered obsolete for Microsoft standards.

Since I do not plan to upgrade my computer specs any time soon, how do I do upgrade back to Windows 10?.

    Thanks in advance.

Me and a Microsoft Support Guy. The link he sent me did not help. He never even looked into the situation.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:08 PM PDT

Him: Hello, what do you need (I forgot the actual phrase)

Me: I can't update AT ALL.

Him: Maybe try this link: (sends a link)

Me: It automatically removes the update AFTER it updates.

Him: I can't help you, do you want to close the case?

    Me: Okay

Him: I'm sorry you are having this problem, do you want to close the case?

    Me: YES!

Him: I'm sorry I can't help you, try the link.

    (chat ends)

Recommendation for a video editor program as simple as mobile iOS for resizing/copping and trimming videos?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 10:52 AM PDT

My workflow these days is to send videos I need to resize/crop (change the resolution) and trim (change the length) directly to my mobile iOS devices because I can perform the appropriate actions in less than a minute and render the file correctly in high quality.

Windows 10 doesn't offer this out of the box, and the Adobe tools I have (which are incredible for bigger projects!) make this simple process infinitely more cumbersome to the point where it's quicker just to use my iPad or iPhone to do the job.

Any suggestions for iOS-like, super simple video editing tools?

How to redirect wmic output to text file from wmic console itself?

How to redirect wmic output to text file from wmic console itself?

The output of wmic can be redirected using as follows from cmd or powershell:

    C:\tmp>wmic /output:out.txt printer list status C:\tmp>

    https://preview.redd.it/r6m1op06thk71.png?width=430&format=png&auto=webp&s=3159a2413bbb89b627a5732d6e74679d8e2b3d71

Let say cmd and powershell is not available (blocked due to security purpose), is it possible to perform similar redirection from the wmic itself (not from cmd or powershell)?

What do you use to RAID drives together?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:44 AM PDT

I haven't had a reason to raid drives together until now. But now that I need it, I realize I have no idea what piece of software is commonly used to RAID something like NVME drives together.

StoreMI / Intel vroc are platform specific and currently considered as a last resort (not very reliable). I've heard StoreMI has gotten a bit better but it still makes me uncomfortable. But other than that and some HW raid card's configurator software, I don't actually know of any RAID software. Most of the more reliable solutions seems to be on linux, but not windows.

The most basic configuration I want is a raid 10. If it can do fancy stuff like caching, 'write mostly' etc, then I want to add 2 SATA drives for capacity on top of a 4x NVME RAID 10.

Any recommendations? What do you use, or would use in this case?

Pure win32 OS using the Windows 10/11 kernal?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 07:24 AM PDT

This is a long shot but would it be possible to modify Windows 10 or 11 to remove ALL UWP content to have a pure win32 OS, basically Windows 7 but with the Windows 10/11 kernel for driver support and whatever. The closest thing I can think of to that is Windows LTSC but I want to take things even further by removing the UWP settings app and restoring the control panel with all it's options just like it was in Windows 7. I'm guessing it is possible because Microsoft haven't actually removed all the features that were replaced with UWP counterparts, just hidden them. Any thoughts?
