An Android permission bypass? (read body) Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:15 PM PDT I received a notification from snapchat saying 2 people from my contacts (with names) are now on snapchat. but I never allowed snapchat to read my contacts (contacts are denied), then how did it know 2 people in my contacts now use snapchat? this might not sound big, but it concerns me nevertheless cuz I believe this can be exploited more. I'm concerned for my internet privacy and security. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2021 08:27 PM PDT I dropped my Pixel 5 not too long ago and damaged the display all along the right side, I've attempted to use ADB wm size to shrink the screen but it only shrinks it relative to the center, I'd like to anchor it to the left so I can keep as much screen real-estate as possible, unfortunately I can't find anything that can do this, My phone can't be rooted (thanks verizon) and I am using the latest android 12 beta (idk why I enrolled anymore). I am beginning to doubt it's possible but I'm hoping someone here can prove me wrong. [link] [comments] |
Can no longer adjust permissions as well as several other settings on my phone. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 08:19 PM PDT Hard to describe, so here's a video: I know Google is super fond of minimalistic design but this is taking the piss... In all seriousness, what's wrong here? How do I fix this? It was working fine just a few days ago, when I changed Instagram permissions to facetime. Today I try to disable permissions for IG and I'm greeted with this nonsense. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:41 PM PDT I'm looking through the folders I have on my phone and there's one named ".$Trash$" with another folder named ".$Content$" inside of it. Is it safe to delete? What is it? [link] [comments] |
Any phones without rounded display? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:36 PM PDT I really dont like rounded displays, dont care about the phone shape, just the display. Any phones that dont have a rounded display? [link] [comments] |
Rich text message won't go away Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:25 PM PDT Recurring Message for rich text won't go away. I've hit "use without chat features" multiple times (partly because I don't want to read the privacy policiy and partly because I'm becoming more and more distrustful of Google in general). How can I get this to go away without agreeing ? It's becoming super annoying. (Note 20 Ultra and only started happening on the most recent update). Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Trying to find logs for phone freezing Posted: 30 Aug 2021 08:41 PM PDT Hi, I have a Pixel 3a that has been randomly freezing while charging every few days. It has made me miss quite a few alarms but I'm trying to find the root of the issue instead of simply wiping it. Is there a log file that would record freezes/crashes and if so where would it be located? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to change the Android 11 quick settings icons? (Oneplus Nord N10) Posted: 30 Aug 2021 07:24 PM PDT I want to change the 6 icons you see when you first pull down the notifications drawer. Is this possible? I can see how to change around the other quick settings icons, once you fully extend the drawer, but not how to change the 6 that are always showing. These are the ones I would like to change out I cant figure it out. [link] [comments] |
Android keeps waking me up in the morning Posted: 30 Aug 2021 10:29 AM PDT I fall asleep with my earbuds in. Often, at random times in the morning, Android will wake me by saying "It is 7:34 am." How can I get it to stop? I've gone into Accessibilty in Settings but Talkback is already off. I have a Galaxy A51. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:38 PM PDT I recently bought some phones from someone not realizing that they had passwords on them. Naturally, I asked them for the password to the phone and they said, "My boyfriend who is now deceased had the phones and I don't know the passwords." I'm currently trying to recover the google account so that I can unlock the FRP. Are there any other ways? [link] [comments] |
Help with white bar at the bottom of certain app Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:03 PM PDT I like to use Plexamp for music, but the white bar at the bottom of the app is so annoying. I don't have this problem on any other app, it's always not there, blends in, or is black. The developers seem to think that it's a problem with the phone rather than their app? I would love a way to fix this. I obviously have the phone on dark mode. I use an Xperia 5ii. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:53 PM PDT Hello. I'm looking for an app that's able to transcribe audio FILES (not the phone microphone) in offline mode. There are many apps in Play Store that can convert audio to text by utilizing Google Voice API, and they seem to work offline when languages are downloaded in the Google app. However, I've only found apps that transcribe "live voice" (when I speak in real time), not audio files already stored in the phone. Any suggestions? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Turn Bluetooth on only when near recognized devices? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:42 PM PDT Is there a way to set Android up to only turn Bluetooth on when around recognized devices? I only use it in my vehicle and hate to leave it on all of the time because it eats my battery. [link] [comments] |
GBoard(?) auto-selecting adjacent words Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:20 PM PDT [Pixel 4a 5G] Sometimes, I have no idea when or for what reason, I'll long-press a word, say like to capitalize it, and GBoard/Android will automatically select a previous or next word. Sometimes tapping the word again will unselect the second word, sometimes the popup menu will block one of the words, preventing the touch from registering on the text. How do I disable this maddening, user-hostile, and obviously untested feature? [link] [comments] |
OnePlus 8 Pro Playing Random Audio Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:09 PM PDT A couple months ago I had an issue with my 8 Pro where I went to adjust the volume and the video I was watching paused, and instead what sounded like a random radio station I'd never ever opened started playing. I restarted my phone and the issue went away. Last night the same thing happened so I restarted my phone and it seemingly resolved again. However, it happened again this morning and a few minutes ago. I've run scans with both Malwarebytes and McAfee and neither find anything suspicious. Has anyone else had this issue? Resolved it? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Create a shortcut that copies files to a NAS via wi-fi? Posted: 30 Aug 2021 02:17 PM PDT Hello, Is there a way to create a shortcut (similar to a .bat file) that copies files (eg. photos) from a few folders to a folder on a NAS on the same network? I have tasker and FX file explorer (which can access network samba shares with this and copy files over). The purpose of this is to automate a shortcut to backup the phone's photos to my photography folder on the NAS without using cloud services. (Xperia 5 ii, android 11). Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Aug 2021 01:52 PM PDT The first time this happened, I switched my phone but it also made a random 'ding' noise. When it turned on to my lockscreen, it did not show notifications nor the time dial, only the background picture. Is this a feature of the phone or could it be some app with some permission to do this? [link] [comments] |
how to add a verification email feature to my app Posted: 30 Aug 2021 09:39 AM PDT I have been trying to figure out a way to make code to send a verification email, after countless tutorials and stack overflow threads i found this: being new to android studio and using java I completely fucked up setting up the first few times ive tried it. But when i finally ended up with something that has no errors and can run on an emulator. No emails were sent. Im not sure why as I'm very new to all this. might be something to do with network operations that dont work without asyncTask or intentService activities (according to that thread) but when i looked those up they were deemed as outdated by android studio and google documentation threads. TLDR- i cant send emails via javamail in android studio, but id like to learn how too/use possible alternatives anyone got any ideas on how to do this? any resources or yt tutorials to help would be greatly appreciated! App that allows voice callers to leave Voice message on Phone rather than using SP voicemail service Posted: 30 Aug 2021 02:07 AM PDT My provider charges £1.50 per message to listen to voicemail. On top of the £54/month contract I'm locked into it's extortion, so I disabled call forwarding. However now I can't receive any voicemail if I'm unable to answer. It was over a decade ago, but I installed an app on my mobile which allowed callers to leave voice messages on my phone which acted as a virtual answering machine. Maybe it was possible back then because the technology was simpler, but I can't find any kind of app that will do this. I've searched on Google and Play, but I can't find anything. Search results seem to be something called "visual voicemail", (even Samsung, my phone is an Galaxy S10+), but researching them they don't seem to do that. If I understand correctly they take your voicemail and convert them to text? I don't know if they record the calls within the app, I think they fetch them from your SP? Or maybe I'm just not understanding the app descriptions because I can't imagine there's not a real need for something like that, especially as SPs commonly fleece you for voicemail. I also tried searching here but I could only find posts on issues with the SPs voicemail, or again this Visual Voicemail. Any suggestions much appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:16 PM PDT So I normally get notifications of articles that may interest me. It's a handy feature for keeping up in the tech/gaming world for me. Usually when I click on the notification, it takes me straight to the article. Here in the last week or so, it will take me to a generic google search. For instance, I got a notification about FFXIV and their server congestion issues. I click on the notification, and it loads up a Google search result of "Final Fantasy XIV", almost like Google is googling things for me. I'm not sure if they lost rights to directly linking articles or if it's a setting I accidentally changed. It's not a terrible thing, but sometimes the generic google results list several articles that I have to sift through until I found the one I was notified about. It's not like I go to my Google feed and when I click on an article it takes me to a Google search, so why are my notifications doing that? Thanks for any help. I hope I'm not the only one with this issue and sound like some crazy rambling man... EDIT: I may have figured it out. I think I left a Google search in the Google App itself, and I guess it decides to keep notifying you about what you searched for...? We'll have to wait and see. I know you can be notified about a search result, but that wasn't checked. Edit 2: Nevermind. It came back. I guess I can block the notifications, but I just want to know what Kickstarted it.
