Hi all, I'm considering making the switch from Sony to xiaomi, what should I buy that's under $800 NZD?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 02:45 PM PDT

Reasons for this: my Xperia 5ii screen is not bright enough, battery is very average, build quality is getting scratches even from grit in my case (wtf never had this), I want to keep micro sd support, and have a big battery, bright screen, and epic cameras like this phone

After updating to 12.5 today...(updated hours ago) Gestures are not working with third party launcher...in my k20 pro! It's only working with keeping poco launcher default...[no problem with the redmi phone having system launcher rather than POCO Launcher] this is the worst update I have ever seen..

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 02:30 PM PDT

Hey guys, so I recently bought a Redmi Note 10 Pro and I am loving the phone and today I wanted to change the theme and went to the settings but there are only two options there and there seems to be no themes app in my phone. Is this normal? And would my phone let me download themes from web without turning MIUI Optimization off? Would greatly appreciate the help guys.

my phone is Redmi 9t and it has been mine for 4 months now

I was opening google chrome on my phone and the app keeps on crashing, so i started cleaning cache and my ram from the security app but it also keeps crashing, i got worried a little then i started to reboot/restart my phone. After a while it still hasn't opened yet, i tried holding the power button for at least a minute and nothing happens, i tried charging it for a few minutes and tried holding the power button again and still nothing happens. i also tried opening recovery mode by pressing the volume buttons and power button at the same time for at least a minute and my phone isn't responding at all. I am very worried and have no clue what to do... is there anything i can do to fix it?

After Redmi Note9s updated to A11 Miui12, lower right part of the screen doesnt work. How to fix this without factory reset or custom rom? Not a tech savvy to do those.

    Unlocking the bootloader quest.

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 09:39 PM PDT

MY PREVIOUS POST GOT PURGED BECAUSE OF SPAM PROTECTION, PLEASE SEE IT, IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT CUSTOM ROM TO CHOOSE

If you ever wanted to flash a custom ROM, you may heard about "unlocking the bootloader". This may sound scary, but there is nothing so dangerous!

Disclaimer: Nobody says that you need to do these instructions.

I am not responsible for: bricks, dead sd cards, thermonuclear war or you get fired from job because alarm app didn't work.

And because of this, you take the risk road while doing everything listed in tutorial.

After reading a disclaimer, you may think that this is not true:

"This may sound scary, but there is nothing so dangerous!"

In most of ways, this method should not fail.

We will use mi flash unlock tool, because it's legal, and you will get a result that you will need (by unlocking it the basic way, you will get problems like device bricking, because Xiaomi needs to ensure that you will install a ROM and not do something bad)

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Before doing any of these steps: ensure that you have sim card in phone and you have a mi account, and we continue.

And the first thing you do is: go to settings and press the phone information button, then find a MIUI version button. Tap on it many times and enter your password, if you have one.

After this, go in additional settings and press on developer settings. You need to find "mi unlocking" option in developer list. Now, you need to link account. For security measures, Xiaomi needs your phone number: Swipe the status bar and turn off WiFi, mobile data must remain. Press on "add account and device". Now enable USB debugging option and OEM unlock option, and you're good to go!

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO ON PC?

Download MI Unlock tool! After downloading, run it and sign in with your account! And now the funniest part: you need to turn off the phone and turn it on with a special key combination: volume + and on button. You will see the mascot of Xiaomi (Mitu) fixing android, and FASTBOOT in bold. If you have this screen, then connect your phone to pc with USB. After that see the disclaimer that you will lose data, and press "unlock"! And... Quack! You have been stopped by a verifying timer! It would give you any time, but the most common one is 168 hours. After you have this error occurred, use your phone as always, but do not get your sim off or re-link mi account. Reboot it by holding the power button for a long time.

    WHY THIS HAPPENS?

This happens, to stop users from unlocking bootloader. There is no workaround which will help you. However, some people unlock it faster by sending appeal through email to Xiaomi.

    WAITING FOR SO LONG...

After waiting period, you can try it again by repeating the same steps. From booting in FASTBOOT to pressing unlock. And, congratulations! You unlocked the bootloader!

    TROUBLESHOOTING

    PHONE ERRORS

Error 10008: connection to Chinese servers error. You need to try VPN.

Error 86006: happens on stable MIUI ROMs, try to update to developer one from system updater.

My phone is already unlocked, WHAT THE HECK???: If you bought it from unnoficial chinese stores, then, reseller installed global MIUI on phone, instead of chinese one.

Error -1: Sign out from mi account, and restart the phone, sign in, and repeat steps.

Error checking: turn off "find phone" in Xiaomi cloud.

    PC ERRORS

While unlocking, program shows "手机使用未达到指定时间,无法解锁", what is it? You must install other versions of mi flash unlock.

In FASTBOOT, it shows "press any key to shut down": try to use other USB ports.

I didn't list all errors, only frequent ones. They may vary, because i translated them from my language.

I hope that i helped you! In the next tutorial, we will use fastboot commands to flash a recovery!

issue trying to turn on my Redmi 9 (Redmi 9 only, not Redmi Note 9....)

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 08:53 PM PDT

when i turn off my phone and then turn it on again with the power button, i hold the button for 3 seconds, then the phone starts to vibrate like crazy!, then it stops and actually turns on the phone :/

is this normal? the phone is brand new, only a month of use, and i honestly don't remember if it did this before when i just got it, it turns on perfectly fine after that but i'm gettin' a bit worried, because it was kinda tough for me to get this phone and i love it, but this thing is worrying me because i'm pretty sure that's not supposed to happen and just vibrate a bit before turning on :/, does someone know if it's an issue or this is intended?

    Complains, complains, complains

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 08:08 PM PDT

All I see that every 2nd post is a complain, why you all have to complain like that, 40% of the problems you have aren't even related to miui, but to android and I think everyone forgot the fact that other brands aren't that much better either, I'm trying to help people but I think I'll stop just because all I see is everyone saying how shit xiaomi's software is, then return it, switch to a custom rom if you don't like miui. I personally had little to no issues with it on my mi 9T and bought my mom a poco x3 pro, she only had issues with getting used to 5he app drawer in the launcher but had no bugs either, are you all experiencing constantly phone braking bugs or something and am I the only one who has no friends, relatives or acquaintance who has no problems with xiaomi's phones?

Redmi Note 9 Pro and Speaker phone issue since MIUI 12 update

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 08:03 PM PDT

So... Today I accidently updated my phone to MIUI 12 and ever since I can't talk normally on the phone. No matter what I do the phone acts like I'm on speaker phone. The button doesn't work and it seems to have trouble with people hearing me. Has anybody else experienced this issue? I'm considering doing a factory reset but it kinda sucks because I have a lot of info on my phone.

Mi phone doesn't start/charge after full discharge unless I use original cable

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 08:02 PM PDT

    Howdy,

First of all I bought my first Xiaomi phone last week, a Mi 10T Lite, currently with MIUI 12.0.2.

Today the phone got fully discharged so I connected the charger. I'm using the original charger socket but with another/non-original cable (5A, purple colour on sockets) because it's longer. I left it for around 30 minutes like that and I couldn't ever turn it on. The LCD displayed a battery icon with a bolt symbol in it.

I swapped the cable for the original one (orange colour on sockets) and instead of a bolt symbol, it displayed 2% and I managed to turn it on.

After it was on, I swapped the cables again and it's charging normally.

    What the heck?

TLDR: Phone doesn't charge if using a cable other than the original one but only when it's fully discharged. After turning the phone on, it charges just fine.

Does HBO Max work properly in Xiaomi Mi TV Stick?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 07:17 PM PDT

I'm thinking about buying Mi TV Stick and I'm wondering if HBO Max runs well in it.

I would like to know, for example, if the app is fluid, if the reproduction of shows and movies is smooth and if the subtitles are good or if they are unsynchronized.

How can I get rid of the DND mode notification on the locking screen?

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 06:27 PM PDT

Since the last update I get a useless notification banner on my locking screen telling me when DND mode is activated. I've looked through all all the options and can't find and away to disable that, can somebody help me pls? My phone is a Mi 9t Pro.

To clarify: I want that it doesn't come every time my phones goes in DND mode so just swiping it away for once is not the answer I am looking for.

    Wallpaper Bug

    Posted: 17 Jul 2021 05:31 PM PDT

I have my Redmi Note 8 Pro updated to the latest 12.5 version and Android 11. After it rebooted itself, the wallpaper is gone and replaced by just a pitch black photo or whatsoever. I tried changing wallpaper using Xiaomi's own app like the Mi Gallery and in the settings, still nothing happens.
