Trying to fix reboot loop; Where does one [legally & safely] get an update file for adb sideloading?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:05 PM PDT

I have a Galaxy S6 that's in a reboot loop, and I'd prefer not to factory reset it due to the length of time since the last backup. I don't think it's a hardware issue because it will stay "up" for as long as I want in the recovery boot screen, but it shuts down/reboots a few seconds after loading the Android home screen.

My thought was to reapply the latest system update via adb in case there was an update that failed on the device/if it turned off at an inopportune time (at this point I'm grasping at straws). However, I don't know where one gets official files that would match OTA updates. (e.g. sideloading guides like this one tend to start with "assuming you have a copy" or some such language) Could someone provide any guidance on this?

Other possibly relevant information, including what I've tried for fixing the reboot loop, in case anyone wants to offer advice on that:

    • Carrier: Verizon
    • Phone is not rooted/has the default bootloader.
    • I've tried clearing the cache partition, but reboots continued.
    • Booting in safe mode still results in reboot loop.
    • Reboot loop persists even when connected to external power. Buttons are not blocked/perpetually depressed, since I have used the volume buttons, the power button, and the "home" button for selecting items in the recovery screen.
    • Turning on airplane mode in the few seconds while the home screen was up seems to have lengthened the time between startup and reboot by a couple seconds, but it's still in a reboot loop
    • I've taken the back off the phone and disconnected/reconnected the battery (bc this is what I'd do with a laptop), but this resulted in no change.

Can't change MNC in APN settings

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 07:14 PM PDT

Hey, everyone. Just bought a new unlocked international Sony Xperia 1 II. I got service with ATT. I can't send or receive MMS from most of my contacts. Other than my sibling who's also a Xperia 1 and ATT user. I assume it has to do with the APN settings. It does not allow me to change the MNC to 410 (which is what it should be according to ATT's website). I can change everything else to the proper APN settings but that. Can anyone help?

    Any "new" phone recommendations

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 07:12 PM PDT

So i need a new (to me) phone but am having trouble researching ones with the specs i need without just getting "hottest phones of 2021" lists . It needs to be waterproof, have a micro-sd slot, have a physical home button, and a headphone jack. I would like for it to have an IR blaster and other physical buttons. I mostly use my phone for music, reading, and pictures only when im traveling, so i dont need anything too fancy and would expect an older phone model i could hopefully buy for a few hundred.

I have been using an S7 active for 2 years and i had an S6 active for 3 years before. I only made the switch to the s7 for the SD card slot, but was super bummed when i realized it did not have an IR blaster which i miss every day. If the s7 had an ir blaster, it would be the perfect phone for me. Im only replacing my phone because the screen, battery, and cameras are busted and after ignoring all that for nearly a year, my phone is doing this weird thing were i sometimes cant wake it up without running it under cold water or putting it in the freezer... also sorry for any typos, im using that phone with a busted screen for this

Does anyone know of any good ROMs for the lt02wifi that are based on android 5 or newer? The only one I found was this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-cm13_unofficial-6-0-1-sm-t217s-t-06-28-16.3387622/) but the link seems to be dead.

Android 11, USB connected device host, cannot turn off

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 03:52 PM PDT

Upon trying to transfer files from a phone to an external drive via a PC, there was some issue, so I went into the USB preferences on the phone and clicked connected device, completely unaware it would cause an extreme headache that would never end. Now not only does the PC not recognize the phone, but the phone refuses to acknowledge it's plugged in via USB, outside of just charging.

I've done everything I can with simple google searches: I've turned on developer mode, changed the default USB settings, even tried things on the connected computer but there's nothing on the computer's end. It doesn't even recognize the phone. I can't change any USB preferences or tethering because the phone claims that it's not connected to USB when in the physical world, it absolutely is. I've tried changing cables, changing ports on the PC, but it has to do with the settings.

Again: Developer Options > Default USB Configuration is NOT fixing the issue and it seems to be the only result a google search will yield. Can someone please help me?

Unsure if it matters, but the phone is a Galaxy A71 5G on Android 11, One UI 3.1.

Screen off sound notifications on vibrate mode?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 11:54 AM PDT

I have a Galaxy Note 9 running Android 10. I usually keep my phone in vibrate mode only. Recently, when my phone screen is off, whenever I get a notification it makes my notification sound in addition to vibrating. I have tried to toggle my notification sound to Silent both system-wide and within the individual apps that I'm often getting notifications from (Whatsapp, Textra, Gmail, ect) but have had no luck so far.

Anyone know of a similar issue and a fix?

Audio files automatically downloaded to phone

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 10:49 AM PDT

I was going to play some music from my phone, so I went to my music playing app when I noticed there were some weird audio files appearing along with my music. They're supposed to be notification sounds I think, but I never downloaded them.

I went to files to see where they came from, and they were added to my phone 17 hours ago (as of typing this) and are located in a file called com.google.android.gm, which apparently is Gmail. So, why were these downloaded to my phone and is it ok to delete them?

Using my SD card as portable storage.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 02:22 PM PDT

I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 5g on Android 11. I also unfortunately have a Mac. These two things don't play very nice together. I've found Macdroid and enabled developers mode so that I can use my device as removable storage in Finder and drag files to it. I also have mounted a 500 gig SD card. My issue is that I want to put about 100 gigs of music on the SD card as there is no way to directly transfer from iTunes, but it seems like my SD card just mirrors the internal storage and if I put a bunch of files on my SD card under music, it fills up the internal storage as well. I don't see what the point of having an SD card is if you can't use it as separate storage, but anyways I've seen a lot of posts about portable vs internal storage for an SD card. I can't find any settings for this or how to change between the two, but I'm guessing maybe my SD card is set up as a backup for my internal storage or something. Any help would be appreciated. I just want to use the SD card for music and nothing else.

If I take my finger off the screen for more than 3 seconds and touch my phone screen it treats the next time I touch the screen as a click, even before I take my finger off the screen.

I'm using a note 20 ultra and have been experiencing this for maybe 3 weeks, or at least that's when I started to notice it. It's very annoying when browsing reddit or any website. I haven't tried anything other than turning it off

Edit: was able to fix it by going to setting, going to apps, clicking in the 3 dots in the top corner and reseting app preferences

    Reseal and redirects?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 08:22 AM PDT

Hi I have recently bought a Samsung s20 fe 5G and it has raised some concerns. Firstly, the seal says it was a European model that was bought by 'Reseal ltd' to be opened and the changes were adding a uk 3 pin plug changing the firmware to English and adding a English help manual. I guess it makes sense but I would've thought Samsung has their own separate uk models of this phone and done it themselves. I also tried to search the company reseal ltd up but not much came up. Is revealing of a brand new phone allowed to be done third parties and is the company legitimate? Also the chrome app when opened the first tab is always redirected to 'blue news' link name is bluewin.ch which is extremely suspicious and I am worried it is adware or something put in by reseal ltd as they were the people who opened it and changed the firmware. Does anyone else's chrome get redirected to that site? If you think this is suspicious any suggestions on what I should do?

My phone no longer detects my headphones

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 09:31 AM PDT

    Hi there.

I have a pair of totally new headphones so they are not the issue, i've tried them with my laptop as well and they work fine. My phone was able to detect them before but all of a sudden not at all. When I plug my headphones in and play music the sound plays out the speakers instead. It doesn't matter if I play from my music app or Youtube. I also went into audio settings and even when my headphones are plugged in the headphone-section of settings cannot be accessed because it says I need to plug in a pair of headphones first, but they are plugged in... So my phone cannot feel that I plugged headphones in. Still if I unplug the headphones the music pauses on my phone and same if I plug them in again so obviously my phone can detect something.

Restarting does not work. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy J3 and my headphones are Sony.

Phone automatically downloaded audio under com.google.android.gm

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 05:44 AM PDT

Today I looked under recently downloaded in files and noticed 12 notifications sounds were downloaded yesterday. I did not purposely download these audios or download any app that would do this. I looked in the details of it and it was under the path :

    android>media>com.google.android.gm>notification

What exactly is com.google.android.gm and is it normal behaviour for it to download audio itself?
