Am I the only one who thinks the app "Your phone" is wrongly named? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:02 PM PDT This literary bugs me everytime I am searching for the program. Intuively I search for "my phone", since I am looking for my phone, and which IMO would be a proper name for the app. Am I the only one? Can we hope for a rename with Windows 11? Windows PC and a Mac Air M1 as a secondary device, anyone on the same boat? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:54 PM PDT I have a good windows 10 PC that is used for Editing Video, Programing, and Gaming ( I was looking for a secondary device, and I started looking on Windows 10 ultrabooks, but after checking reviews, experimenting with how bad the Quality Control of those devices was (I tried XPS 13, HP Envy laptop 13, and 2-1 13, all returned), how expensive are these for what you get (performance/quality), and poor thermals, I started looking at the Mac M1 Air as an option. Anybody here in the same situation, I want to hear from others' experiences, how the multiplatform arrangement works for you (I use GDrive to sync stuff, so I plan to leverage this for my files) and if you are still happy with that approach. Thanks :D [link] [comments]

Feature updates taking over 3 days to complete. Posted: 15 Jul 2021 06:11 PM PDT I have a work computer that takes days to complete feature updates. It's not a slow computer either. It has a Xeon E5-1650v3 with 64GB of ram and 1TB SSD. Even installing from ISO has this problem. What's weird is everything works fine otherwise. But when a new feature update comes out it has the same problem. I'm sure a clean install would fix the issue but I have too much crap setup for work that I really don't want to go through the trouble of setting up again. Could it be a corrupt registry or something? Any idea to fix without clean install? I can still use the computer though (it's before the first reboot) so it's extremely annoying but not causing a loss of productivity. [link] [comments]

When will we be able to find affordable TPM 2.0 modules? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 09:49 AM PDT I have an MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC motherboard, and to prepare for Windows 11, I've recently been watching for a MSI 4136 TPM module for my motherboard. It seems they're out of stock everywhere I look, or being sold by scalpers at unreasonably high prices. I had heard they'd normally sell for around $20 or so, but I've been seeing TPM 2.0 modules being listed on eBay for $100 or more. Can we expect to see any TPM 2.0 modules in stock anywhere at a reasonable price again any time soon? [link] [comments]

Will Windows ever be more intelligent when it comes to searching for dates or times ? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 01:45 PM PDT Windows today is, well, weird when it comes to searching for dates and times. For instance, you can type datetaken:12/25 in Windows Explorer to see all photos taken on December 25 (Christmas). However, Windows will return results only for photos taken in the current year! datetaken:12/25 will not show photos from any previous year; you must do this manually and, worse, the search box will eventually limit how many years you can enter (i.e., you can never see all Christmas photos in one search just by using the built-in search box alone) ... To search for all photos taken Christmas during last decade, you would have to type:
... This is insane ! Windows does not even recognize something like 'last decade' ! The same madness also affects times throughout the system. So I could search for all photos taken in the evening, or all documents created in the afternoon but, again, this would only apply to the current day ! Or in another insane example, you can do something like dateaccessed:Saturday, but this would not return every file accessed on a Saturday and only the Saturday of the current week — in other words, if you wanted to see every file you ever accessed on a Saturday, you would have to 1) remember the dates you accessed it (which means you have to remember at least this) and 2) perform a query like dateaccessed:07/10/2021 OR 07/17/2021 ... It is not feasible. You cannot even do something like dateaccessed:Saturday AND thisyear because Windows is not intelligent enough to know that, yes, you want the query to show only files accessed on the Saturdays of this year. Imagine being able to find all photos taken at night and where a flash is used. It is possible, but incredibly difficult today. The facts help to answer my questions from before : Why is the search experience in Windows so poor compared to what it could be? or why we don't have context menu options for searches like 'Photos taken on this date', 'Photos taken at this time', and 'Photos taken on this date and at this time'. Again, you can perform these searches today, but it is incredibly difficult. Is there any hope ? [link] [comments]
