    Looking for an office chair

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 05:45 AM PDT

Hi all- I'm currently in the market for a good, comfortable chair. I've done research into various "gaming" chairs, but people suggest getting an office chair instead (cheaper, and probably better). I'm not looking at a Herman Miller chair, way too expensive. My lower back is bugging me, so I'm looking for good lumbar support and a comfy bottom cushion. Overall, comfort, and good support. Also breathable. What are the best chairs you recommend for at or under $500? Thanks in advance for any answers! (: (I'm unsure if a chair counts as a peripheral so I apologize if I mislabeled).

    Should I buy i5-10600 or i5-11600?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 09:22 AM PDT

I'm not going to buy a GPU till the prices drop back to where they were, so buying a 11600 would give me a fare boost in gaming (10600: UHD 630 / 11600: UHD 750). However, the specifactions of them both show that 11600 has a lower base clock by 0.5 ghz.

    i5 10600: 209,74€ / i5 11600: 217,13€

(I'd rather not to buy a K version)

Some lucky amazon shopper is gonna get a CPU with their motherboard

    Posted: 14 Jul 2021 04:39 PM PDT

I say this because i accidentally returned my 1600af in the socket of an msi b550 a pro 🤦‍♂️.

basically the b550 a pro was chirping along with a 5600x, but i wanted to tinker with curve optimizer. one failed bios update later and i was swapping the mobo with my asus b450 f gaming which had my 1600 in there. i didn't have anywhere to put the 1600 so i put it the b550 socket.

Moral of the story, don't leave your cpu in the motherboard you're gonna return

I’ve been using random boxes as monitor stands and want to upgrade

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 03:11 AM PDT

For the last year I've been using a shoe boxe, a wii box, headset box, iPad box , gpu box, and 2 controller boxes as monitor risers for my 3 monitors. I like my eye level to be resting at the middle of the screen (to avoid neck problems) and that requires the monitor to be risen about 10 inches off the desk. I was looking at monitor risers but none of them look like they would suffice, please let me know if you have any solutions/suggestions to my problem

Incase you didn't know, that antenna that comes with your (Asus) mobo is for Bluetooth aswell.

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 03:57 AM PDT

Happened to me today. Couldn't figure out why my Bluetooth wasn't working until I read somewhere that the antenna that I thought was for wifi only is for Bluetooth aswell!

If you're using a wired connection and can't get your Bluetooth working, this just might be your problem!

'why the hell would I set this up!? I'm hard wired!'...

Upgraded from Intel stock cooler to Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition - I'm surprised!

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 10:51 AM PDT

I've been running the Intel stock cooler on my 10400F for about 6 months. Just got my new Hyper 212 and WOW! My stock cooler hit 70c during Prime95, with it making a lot of noise (63db!). With my Hyper 212 it doesn't go above 50c in Prime95 and I can't hear it! Not only that, but it looks a lot better too.

And for anyone interested in buying one, it's currently on sale on Amazon.

Picking out a new powersupply, a bit stuck on what to pick.

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 08:32 AM PDT

So I'm currently overhauling neraly all of my setup and giving all the part's to a mate of mine. Whilst doing this, I decided to do a minor upgrade to my power supply and felt a 650w power supply was the right choice.
But I'm struggling to pickout a good affordable 650w power supply. If anyone has any recommendations, they would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my (planned) PC setup if it helps in the decision.

    MOBO: Asus Prime X570-P

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600x

    RAM: 32 GB DDR4

    GPU: RTX 3060

    1 120GB SSD

    1 1TB HDD

    1 2TB HDD

    I5 10400F or Ryzen 3600 ? Which one would be better with a RTX 3060 ?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 10:42 AM PDT

I'm building a new PC for me and i'm in doubt about which processor to pick. With my budget i can go with either the I5 10400F or the Ryzen 3600.

What do you guys think ?

240mm AIO for Small Form Factor case

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 01:14 PM PDT

First time building a mini-itx rig using the CoolerMaster NR200. https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/cases/mini-itx/masterbox-nr200/#specifications

    Fans: Top 2 x 120mm, Rear 1 x 92mm, Side 2 x 120/140mm, Bottom 2 x 120mm

Planning to use side fan slots as cpu AIO intake, bottom intake, rear exhaust, top exhaust.

Slightly worried about AIO tube length, does anybody have suggestions or experience using 240/280mm AIOs in a small form case similar to this?

My question is, should i add 1 more exhaust fan on top closest to the intake fans?

having some questions about building a gaming pc on a budget (Beginner).

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 11:03 AM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I have always wanted to build a pc, but I was always on the move. However I have finally found a nice job, and I am gonna be staying in the same place for a couple of years. So I can finally start building my own gaming PC. The games I am more interested in are more strategy/simulation games like Going Medieval, Crusader Kings III, Civ VI, etc. But I do know that in the future I'll want to try streaming and maybe play some FPS games.

My price range at the moment is quite limited and I am aiming around 650-750 at the maximum.
I have check certain youtube videos and found a very low gaming pc for 519 with the following components. (The website is a dutch one since I live there at the moment)

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G (MPK) Boxed = 237

    Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX = 49
Memory ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 = 83

    State drive: Kingston A400 2,5" 480GB = 47

Power supply: Thermaltake Smart RGB 600W = 52

    Case: Aerocool Cylon Midi-Toren Zwart = 51 €

    Total = 519

So here are my questions; what should be my focus when I look into buying the PC component? Since it's my first build should I just go for these "cheap" parts and later on change stuff? Or should I spend more money on certain parts such as the CPU and Motherboard compare to others (Case, power supply)? if yes, what would be the components I should focus on, and what do you guys recommend?

I know it's a lot of questions but I appreciate it if you took the time to read and answer!

Can I get a sanity check?

This is an older rig, the first (and only) that I built ~6 years ago. I'm fairly sure I've ruled out everything besides a failing mobo, but I'm not terribly experienced so I'd like some more eyes looking at the situation before I spend $500 replacing the remaining parts from the original build.

The build from 6 years ago:

    • cpu Intel i7-4770k
    • gpu GTX-970
    • ram 4x 8gb G.Skill Ripjaws X series ddr3
    • ssd Intel 240gb
    • hdd WD green 2tb
    • mobo Asus z87 Sabertooth
    • psu Thermaltake m850w
    • aircon Phanteks air cooler
    • case Fractal Design Define r4
    • no overclocking

First symptom: random reboots (not bsod just restart). Screen would freeze, audio plays for a second before sounding glitchy and the machine reboots. The whole process from freeze to reboot was usually less than 5 sec. Initially only happened when launching Overwatch, oddly enough, but then it started happening randomly just browsing the internet.

    • firstly, reinstalled Windows to rule out software

I think I found a couple of posts suggesting that the gpu might be the problem, as the computer seemed functional while the screen froze - I could click on things but not see what was happening.

    • replaced gpu with GTX 1660ti

This was a couple of years ago, and it worked just fine until the same symptoms returned recently. A little more research came up with another post where someone described the exact same symptoms and the conclusion (in comments) was that it's almost certainly power supply, possibly storage. Still no BSODs, just sporadic freeze and reboot. So I got a new psu and ssd bringing the current build to:

    • cpu Intel i7-4770k
    • gpu GTX-1660ti (new)
    • ram 4x 8gb G.Skill Ripjaws X series ddr3
    • ssd Intel 240gb (swapped in/out during troubleshooting below)
    • ssd Samsung 870 evo (new, has OS installed)
    • hdd WD green 2tb (removed)
    • mobo Asus z87 Sabertooth
    • psu Corsair rm850x (new)
    • aircon Phanteks air cooler
    • case Fractal Design Define r4
    • no overclocking

Here's where things really start to get fucky, went from a frustratingly misdiagnosed problem to full paranormal activity.

The bios had some difficulty recognizing that the new SSD was installed, some combination of the following seemed to fix it.

    • bios settings tinkering
    • swapping sata cables
    • connecting to different sata ports

Seems fine, fresh install of windows on a new ssd, bios recognizes both SSDs.

Then I started downloading my apps and games. There's a new crash, a BSOD that occurs only during massive downloads like >20gb. Got a BSOD 3 or 4 times before Far Cry 5 finished downloading, similar for Battlefield 4 (thank you steam summer sale). No problems with smaller downloads like Risk of Rain 2.

Then I see that the old SSD gets "forgotten" while windows is operating - it's visible in file explorer but inaccessible and no longer has it's name tinydisc (D:)

    • replace sata cables
    • reinstalled steam on the new 1tb ssd it was on.
    • uninstall steam and reinstall on the old 240gb ssd it was originally on.

No resolution, current status: BSOD triggered on massive file download, happens regardless of which SSDs are installed and which one is the download/install location.

    • plug into different sata ports on the mobo

This is where it starts to come together. At the bios level it seems the ssds aren't being recognized consistently, after swapping to a new mobo sata port they're recognized again. It isn't just the old ssd, the mobo will fail to see either randomly. Reading/writing massive amounts of data seems to make them become unrecognized as if their physical connection had been severed, if that makes sense.

Yesterday it got even weirder. The power button on my case didn't work for the first time. Had to open it up and push the DirectKey button on the mobo to boot to bios, then exit so it could reboot to windows.

Today, that didn't work for several attempts, though the mobo shows the standby power LED indicating it's got power at least. I decided to give it one last chance to turn on before writing this, and the case power button worked normally. Things seem normal at the moment but I'm afraid to turn it off.

As far as I can tell I've ruled out problems with windows, gpu, psu, ssd, and sata cables, having replaced them all. Seems like the problem is a failing mobo, does this make sense to anyone else? A generous buddy gave me a CPU, but before buying the mobo and ram to match (might as well get a new case, cooler and fans too at this point) I was wondering if anyone has some insight into the situation.

Thanks to anyone who actually read this far.

    3080ti vs 6900xt

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 02:39 PM PDT

Hi guys, I've had 2 6800xts since Jan and my XFX card had to be RMA'd (Loved that card) and got reimbursed as the issue could not be fixed.

I have been thinking of getting the MSI gaming z trio 6900xt (I believe thats XTXH) or the EVGA 3080ti FTW.

I do not care about DLSS or Raytracing and I am more interested in raw perf, tech sites put the 3080ti ahead but the recent driver updates on AMD's side a lot closer to NVIDIAs. Most of all I wish to push the card to the max on air (Silicon Gods be good, hopefully)

If anyone could help me with any insight I would be grateful.

    Edit: res is 1440p.

Is the Wraith Stealth cooler included with the 5600x good?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 10:47 AM PDT

I was planning on getting the Noctua NH-D15, but I'm afraid I'll have RAM clearance issues. I won't do any overclocking, so is it better if I use the included cooler or buy low profile RAM instead?

PC won't boot when cpu power is plugged in

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 12:38 PM PDT

Yesterday I had about 1 instance of it freezing and thought nothing of it. Wake up today and find the thing just won't boot. No fan, no light, no beeping. Nothing. Initially I thought it was the psu so I swapped it out but that didn't resolve anything.

After further testing I found that the pc won't start up when the atx_v12 port is plugged in. After a bit of googling I found this supplies the cpu with power. I checked the cpu and saw one of the anchors to the fan had snapped off so it was only barely touching the cpu.

Does this sound like the cpu burned out or perhaps something around the mobo did? Has anyone encountered something like this and how to fix?

Electrician cuts the power, Are my new peripherals ruined?

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 11:10 AM PDT

Today i got my delivery for my peripheral upgrade of a Benq XL2546K , Corsair keyboard and razer mouse. I literally just set it all up got into a game and the electrician we had round, who was fitting a new socket in my house, killed the power without letting me know. After the power was cut i unplugged the extension leads from the wall socket to avoid a surge when it was eventually turned back on.

I'm curious if someone who knows more then me can quell my ocd worries and tell me if this power cut could have done damage to my gear? As im typing everything seems fine, monitor still at the same hz cant see any dead pixels of feel any response difference, however my brains like, is there a chance its done tiny unnoticed damage that has hindered the performance of my brand new stuff on the first day of using it?

I'm not to concerned for my pc since I know a power supply has fail safes for this kind of thing and its also separately plugged into a surge protected extension lead however the monitor is just plugged into a normal extension lead.

An added question to this is since im in the uk and i know our plugs have fuses, would that fuse pop or save the monitor or any hardware before it had a chance to cause damage?

Thanks for any help and apologies if this is a stupid question i just have very little knowledge on power cuts and how new tech would react to it.

    BIOS upgrade gone wrong

    Posted: 15 Jul 2021 03:57 PM PDT

I have an Asus X570-Plus motherboard that has been running fine for 1.5yrs. When I first built the system I updated the BIOS and haven't touched it since.

Today I made the dumb decision to upgrade it.... I used the EZ Flash utility but the upgrade froze at about 10% and was stuck there for 6 hours. I then rebooted the system with no other option available.

Now when I power the system on the DRAM light is immediately lit yellow and the monitor stays black.

    I've tried:

    • Resetting the CMOS using the jumper and battery

    • Moving RAM to different slots

    • Put an older BIOS on a fat32 USB drive and connected it to the MB USB slots

Nothing seems to work and it seems like my only option is to RMA it.
